There is a missing link between education and community development. This becomes glaring when considering the educational awareness vis-a-vis the level of development in Ogoni communities today. Education should come with the know-how and consequently the ease with which communities evolve, notwithstanding, there continues to be a downward slope in community development in the face of growing educational awareness. This study uses the functionalist theory of development to evaluate how subsets within communities can functionally impress on the quality of development in their locales. The study argues that development is more organized where the people are involved concluding that by education, most people have a copious understanding of the kind of community development fashionable today but do not know how to engage their kits and kin to buy-in. It recommends the kind of education which sharpens skills and abilities of the people to identify challenges and solve them as subsets in their communities.

The paper examined Office Ethics and Effective Administration in Tertiary Institutions in Rivers State. The paper used the qualitative approach in which literature were sourced to enhance the opinion of the authors. It looked at office ethics in the light of integrity, competence and mutual respect of higher school administrators as major character traits required for effective administration of tertiary institutions in Rivers State. The paper adopted the the Utilitarianism theory which is considered to be an ethical theory as an action is judged on whether its end result maximises good. It is also a consequential theory since the criterion for judging whether an action is right or wrong relates to its consequences. It concluded that integrity, competence and and mutual respect enhances the administrators performance in the judgment of members of the organizations as well as customers or stake holders. The paper suggested among others that termly integrity test should be conducted on administrators’ on regular intervals.

Despite the fact that availability of financial resources is a very influential factor for the delivery of quality education, public universities in Nigeria are still bedeviled with serious difficulties in securing adequate funding. This has undoubtedly limited them from delivering a world class education. The paper examined composite funding strategies with the aim of addressing identifiable challenges and promoting effective management within Nigerian public universities. Key concepts were discussed and properly linked with the need for adequate and sustainable finance for the institutions and the current funding situation. It highlighted the significance of composite funding strategies in ensuring improved service delivery of public universities in Nigeria. The limitations associated with public university funding were discussed, including insufficient budget allocations, limited IGR, and limited access to grants. Traditional funding sources, such as government allocations, IGR, TETFund, as well as alternative funding strategies, like public-private partnerships, philanthropic donations, etc., were discussed. It also discussed the potential for international collaborations and funding opportunities, such as the benefits of research collaborations and scholarships for Nigerian students, home and abroad. It underscored the importance of transparent budget planning, resource allocation, and accountability in achieving sustainable funds within public universities. It concluded by emphasizing the need for composite funding strategies as the practicable means of overcoming funding challenges for enhanced management of public universities in Nigeria. It recommended that diversification of funding sources, promotion of partnerships, and application of effective financial management practices are the models to ensure adequate

The study examined the implications of utilization of school facilities for instructional delivery in technical education programmes in Colleges of Education in South-East Nigeria. One research question guided the study and two null hypothesis was tested at 0.05 alpha level. It adopted survey research design. The population of the study comprised 204 lecturers in college of education in South-East of Nigeria. The entire population was used for the study since it was not too large and was manageable. Hence, the study did not adopt any sampling technique. A 17 – item structured questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection for the study. Three experts validated the instrument. Cronbach’s Alpha method was used to establish the reliability of the instrument in a pilot test; which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.82. The instrument for data collection was sent to respondents through research assistants. Data related to the research questions were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The t-test statistics was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. Findings from the study revealed that utilization of school facilities enhances effective instructional delivery in technical education programmes in Colleges of Education to a great extent. The study recommended among others that, government through National Commission for Colleges of Education should help to ensure that school facilities are in good condition to serve the purposes they are meant for.

This paper focuses on what constitutes functional language of instruction with a view to determining the extent at which it influences effective teaching delivery by Social Studies teacher and the attainment of Social Studies curriculum objectives. Two hypotheses were formulated based on research questions on significant relationship between and among identified variables viz- a-viz teachers knowledge of core- concepts, academic qualification, students’ academic performance, attainment of curriculum objectives and the functional language. The study employed quasi- experimental design, 20 Social Studies teachers and 200 students were selected from Junior Secondary Schools in Ojo Local Government area of Lagos state. Close- ended questionnaire constructed for teachers contains 20 statement items on a 4 – point likert rating scale and validated with a reliability co- efficient of 0.58. Achievement test was also constructed for the students and data was analysed using F - Test and pearson product moment correlation (PPMC). The finding reveals that: teachers’ knowledge of core- concepts and academic qualifications has nothing to do with the use of functional language and vice- versa. The implication of this was deeply discussed. It was therefore recommended that, to attain Social Studies curriculum objectives, there is the need by the teachers to have knowledge of liberal arts, language education and the acquisition of appropriate diction, which implies the use of functional language; and there is a symbolic relationship between students’ academic performance and the use of functional language in the teaching and learning of Social Studies.

The study assessed effects of 8-week jogging training on body composition of obese and non- obese students in Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare Bauchi State Nigeria. Repeated measure design using one group repeated trials research design was adopted for this study. The population for this study comprised of one thousand five hundred and seventy (2570) male and female students where 80 students were selected using the purposive sampling. The participants were assigned to two experimental groups of 40 obese and non–obese male and female students, each group exposed to 8-week jogging between the hours of 4:30pm to 5:45pm on alternate days (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays). The training session consist of three components which were, 10 minutes of warm – up, 45 minutes of jogging session and 10 minutes of cool down. Descriptive statistics of mean standard deviation and standard error of means was used to analyse the body composition variables. The repeated measure ANOVA was used to analyse the data to determine the effect of jogging on the participants’ body composition and independent t-test was used to analyse the data for gender to the alpha level of significance p< 0.05 was used to accept or reject the null hypotheses. It is concluded among others that,, there are specific gender differences in response to jogging. The eight (8) weeks jogging did not produce significant effect on %BF of female, and BMI (male and female). It was recommended among others that, regular assessment of physical fitness status of youths in Nigerian schools by exercise Scientist should be emphasized so as to be able to prescribe exercise programmes to meet children’s fitness needs and standard. Obese youths should be exposed to physical activities to improve their well-being and alleviate obesity complications.
