When the COVID-19 pandemic happened, people and sectors of society needed to adjust specific norms and standards to fit into the demands of the time. This paper is an autoethnography of my experiences as a mother-teacher during the peak of the pandemic. It is in the context of my experiences and other mother-teachers working from home, conflicts in the roles played by mother-teachers at home, the expectation of society, and social norms. It is about how I perceived my reproductive and productive roles. Moreover, I interviewed mother-teachers, and their stories served as counter and conforming narratives to my narratives. The following are emerging themes: the unprecedented time; a mother is born; off the rhythm; and silver lining. These themes discussed the various phases mother-teachers grappled upon and triumphed. Writing this autoethnography was a therapeutic experience for the high emotions I had to deal with during the pandemic.

Quarantine measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 resulted in millions of Filipinos getting stranded. Using autoethnography, this paper is a layered account of my experience as a locally stranded individual, particularly how I coped and used certain privileges to get out from such a dreadful experience. I conveyed my story by also incorporating different voices through related literature and interviews of other stranded students. My journey begins with downplaying the pandemic's severity to coming to terms with my vulnerability at that time. Being stranded is akin to being stuck in limbo, overcoming the obstacles and challenges to get home, and realizing the importance of privilege in times of hardship. The coping strategies used while stranded reflect the distinct Filipino ways of coping, such as bayanihan, pag-tiis, and utang na loob. Writing this autoethnography has proven therapeutic and allowed me to see my experience in a wider context.

This study investigated the social dynamics of Filipino social drinking, or "tagay". It aimed to answer the following: (1) define tagay as a distinct drinking culture; (2) determine the technicalities and rules of tagay; and (3) assess the perceptions and interpretations of the participants on tagay. This study employed the qualitative research design through the ethnographic method as the primary research technique. Tagay is engaged by people for reasons usually celebratory and enjoyable in nature. It possesses social dynamics and elements which gear its conduct- rules, time and place, behaviors, gender and power relations, material components, roles, mechanisms, definitions, and functions. Differing through social considerations, the identity of tagay as a Filipino drinking culture remains distinct as embodied by a single drinking glass and continues to be dynamic and adaptive, relying on those who partake. Tagay becomes what it is depending on the perception of those who participate.

In straight-gay friendship, diversity is recognized, respected, and celebrated. It is an unorthodox connection between heterosexual and gay men. The alliance is affected by the facilitating or constraining social forces of affectional orientation and traditional masculinity. The qualitative study sought to explore and analyze the formation and dissolution of straight-gay friendships among 13 Ilocano men recruited through snowball and purposive sampling. Pagtatanong-tanong, an indigenous method of data gathering, was employed. Thematic analysis and investigator triangulation were performed for analysis and validation. Results revealed that for the formation phase, Ilocano men portrayed active and passive roles that shared interest, nourishing personality, and open-mindedness were strong social motivators. Likewise, the causes of possible dissolution were growing intimacy and physical distance. Termination can be either a direct or indirect approach. The understanding of this unorthodox alliance provided communal empathy and acceptance, and carried the mission to educate about the interaction of both communities. It is suggested that positive portrayals lessen stigma and discrimination.

This study determined the experiences of the COVID-19 survivors during their mandatory isolation. Descriptive phenomenology is the research design used in the study. Snowball sampling was utilized to determine the 24 participants of the study. The data was gathered through an online semi-structured interview conducted via Google Meet and Zoom, two video communication applications. Thematic analysis was utilized to develop themes based on the responses from the COVID-19 survivors who served as participants. The study generated four themes with twelve sub-themes. The study revealed that mental health impacts how the participants perceive, feel, behave, and perform, as well as how they plan, handle stress, and interact with others. The participants' mental health has been compromised because of the mandatory isolation, and they expressed a wide range of psychological emotions, including stress, fear, anxiety, and loneliness, that may impact their mental health. Daily communication and entertainment, an optimistic mindset, and praying regularly are the coping mechanisms identified in the study. Coping mechanisms were developed to determine the activities made by the participants to mitigate the impact of mandatory isolation on their mental health. Furthermore, the study also recommends that future researchers must explore the mental health of a larger group of isolated individuals.

Tax revenue from local sources constitutes a major source of income for local government units. In the ASEAN, revenues suffered a sharp downturn, due to the pandemic. In the Philippines, the slowdown in economic activities increased unemployment and decreased local revenues. This study determined the extent of implementation of revenue generation programs in cities for the fiscal years 2019-2020 as assessed by 312 implementers and 411 stakeholders. It also assessed the effectiveness of the collection strategies employed and investigated the challenges encountered as well as best practices in implementing revenue generation programs. Using descriptive analysis, the results revealed that the implementation of the revenue generation program is to a great extent. Collection strategies employed were found effective. Three groups of challenges emerged; challenges common to treasurers and assessors, for assessors and challenges for treasurers. The best practice recommended is adopting the electronic payment system. Implementation of revenue-generation programs using effective collection strategies results in self-reliant cities.

Employees' job resiliency, work-life balance, and work values may affect their work performance. This study determined the levels and significant differences of the variables when grouped according to age, sex, length of service, and department assigned. Moreover, this study determined the relationship between job resiliency, work-life balance, and work values. This study employed a descriptive-correlational research design. One hundred five employees of a Catholic College were surveyed. Mean, standard deviation, Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, and Spearman rho were used to analyze the data. Results showed that the employees have a very high level of job resiliency and a high level of work-life balance and work values. There were no significant differences in the employees' job resiliency, work-life balance, and work values across all variables. Lastly, job resiliency was positively correlated with work-life balance and work values. It can be concluded that employees can overcome, adapt, and cope with the different challenges while balancing their work and personal life and displaying positive work values. The management should prioritize maintaining resiliency since it has a significant relationship to their work-life balance and work values.

Students' ethnicity and self-concept have been less explored in the Philippine educational setting. Exploring the effects of these factors on the mathematics performance of students who enrolled in classes with diverse ethnicity can provide a better understanding of how to handle this type of educational setup. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between ethnicity, self-concept toward Mathematics, and performance in Math of the Grade 7 students of two boarding schools. A descriptive correlational research design was employed using a survey questionnaire to assess the students' self-concept and the results of the unified institutional test to assess their mathematics performance. The 300 respondents were selected using stratified sampling with their ethnic group as the stratum. The data were treated using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results revealed that the students have moderate self–concept of Mathematics in all ethnic groups. Moreover, findings show no significant relationship between the students' ethnicity and self-concept. However, it revealed a significant relationship between ethnicity and performance in Mathematics and self-concept and performance in Mathematics. Hence, a positive sense of identity and self-efficacy can contribute to the better performance of the students in Mathematics. Moreover, teachers are encouraged to consider the ethnicity of students in delivering instruction in classrooms where students have different ethnic orientations.

Disaster preparedness has played a vital role in mitigating disaster risks. A well-planned disaster risk reduction program is effective in minimizing hazards and casualties. The study determined the extent of disaster preparedness practices of households in the coastal communities of a congressional district in the Philippines, particularly on typhoons, in terms of disaster preparedness literacy, participation in community disaster preparedness, and disaster preparedness on supplies and kit contents. A descriptive-comparative research design was used to administer a researcher-made survey instrument to 341 coastal household members. Statistical techniques such as Kolmogorov Smirnov, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis, Mean, and Standard Deviation were used in the study. The findings revealed a great extent of disaster preparedness practices with significant differences when respondents were grouped according to household income and educational attainment of the household members. However, there were no significant differences when grouped according to household size, type of housing unit, and type of housing structure. Household income is very minimal in purchasing food/kit supplies was identified as the most significant challenge experienced by the households. The study recommends an enhanced Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management (BDRRM) Plan to strengthen the programs, projects, and activities to increase the adaptive capacity and involvement of households toward disaster preparedness.

Compliance with the provisions of the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Act strengthens the DRRM office in local government units resulting in effectual practices in reducing, minimizing, and mitigating risks and creating its disaster resiliency. This study assessed the compliance of local government units (LGUs) with the provisions of the PDRRM Act in the areas of risk management practices and institutional arrangements and capacities focused on the four thematic areas of disaster. Challenges encountered by DRRM officers and planning coordinators of 32 LGUs were investigated. Using descriptive analysis, the findings revealed a high level of compliance with risk management practices in prevention and mitigation, preparedness, and response and a moderate level of rehabilitation and recovery. As to institutional arrangements and capacities, LGUs also exhibited a high level of compliance with a lower mean on structural mechanisms. When income classification was used as a variable, 4th class LGUs rated moderate; as to location, results were varied. As to the number of hazards, LGUs with nine hazards and more are rated high. The study concluded that failure to provide personnel and financial resources to the DRRM office endangers the safety and general well-being of the population and poses great risks to lives and properties.
