Gio Ponti: architettura, tempo, materia Gio Ponti:建筑、时间、物质

Gio Ponti has proposed in his writings a significant reflection on the relationship between architecture, time and construction materials, where architecture does not presuppose immutability and does not associate time with decay. Ponti’s statements introduce us to an apparent contradiction with respect to the famous assimilation of his architecture to crystals. Indeed, Ponti is aware of a paradox of modern architecture: it requires time to be alive, but it is constantly forced to oppose it because it seems unable to age. The paper discusses the two alternatives that Ponti proposes (technical architecture and natural architecture) and discusses his ideas in the cultural context at the time on restoration, durability, care and new modern materials. Finally, a contribution is proposed here to a conservation perspective in which the aging of the Modern could be a matter of cultural appropriation.

The question this essay attempts to answer is what the role of theory is today in the complex world of restoration and conservation. But that is not all. The aim is also to bring back to the centre of the discipline the theoretical nodes, which too often take second place to the design and technical aspects, such as those that give substance to the discussion on heritage and patrimonialisation. Much has been said on the critical formulation of a restoration project, especially today, in the face of global phenomena becoming ever more complex there is a necessity to recuperate the theoretical and notional values of the discipline. Faced with the advancement of technical solutions and the ever-increasing intrusiveness of scientific instruments, restoration risks losing its theoretical foundations. In addition to questions about laboratory investigations, sustainability, climate change issues or the choice of green products, it seems more necessary than ever to return to the more strictly philosophical-humanistic questions that must then necessarily be the foundation of restoration work..

Evoluzione della carpenteria lignea dei tetti in Grecia tra età arcaica e classica. Alla ricerca di tracce di incavallature 希腊屋面木工的发展寻找马具的痕迹

The paper analyzes the evolution of the organization of timber roofing carpentry in Greece and in the colonies of Sicily and Magna Graecia in a chronological scope between the archaic and classical periods. A substantial continuity, lacking evident innovations, characterizes the organization of the carpentry of the roofs constituted, in general, by a horizontal member on which rest on props – king and queen posts – coinciding with the purlins, useful for receiving the secondary framework and the roof covering. The lack of evident indicators, in a cognitive framework that is however extremely fragmented, and a constructive culture on timber that does not seem to excel for technological advancement raises many doubts about a possible pioneering use, even in constructions with high distance between supports, of carpentry organized as a truss system, with no pushing component on the wall.

INFRA REDable. Thermography for the diagnosis and conservation of frescoed walls: the case of the Templar Church of San Bevignate 红外线可还原。用于诊断和保护壁画墙壁的热成像:以圣贝维纳特圣殿教堂为例

The importance of research that addresses the numerous themes of architectural and cultural heritage conservation is a fact that has now been acquired on the national and international scene. The objective of the ongoing research presented is the study and development of infrared thermography as an innovative technique for non-contact, and absolutely non-invasive, investigations for the diagnosis of ancient masonry walls with specific attention to frescoes. In parallel, the devised technique is applied to a case study of very high historical value: the cycles of mural paintings of the Templar Church of San Bevignate in Perugia. Such architectural complex also houses a relevant archeological site which consists of a roman fullonica, part of the museum itinerary. Starting from the thermographic data, both the state of conservation of the precious painting and the seismic safety of the masonry Church – tied to the quality of the brickwork texture – are evaluated. The comparison among thermographic results and the outcomes due to a restoration activity of the painted parts, that took place on 2019 and that is still in progress, are highlighted.

Following the European guidelines, research in the architecture sector has been committed to seeking open systems, which can be implemented in stages for structuring methodological protocols applicable to digitization to enhance Cultural Heritage. The H2020-RISE-PROMETHEUS project, coordinated by the University of Pavia, aims to define a multi-scalar digital information system to safeguard the historical memory of the heritage and promote Cultural Heritage Routes. That allows the dissemination of the heritage architectural diffuse of the European Cultural Heritage Routes, starting from the pilot case of the Upper Kama territory (Russia). The languages ​​of representation and the analysis processes of the elements result from an international collaboration between universities and companies in a critical, shared process of evaluating the criteria for optimizing infographic languages. The research results are explained in the information modeling protocol, structured based on an analytical approach of morphological, technological, and typological semantization, from the territorial level to the architectural scale, for the combined management of historical memory, information, and intervention on the work.
