This article describes plasma blade transciliary filtration for the surgical management of glaucoma in an indigent population. The procedure was found to be safe, effective and straightforward.

Third-generation optical coherence tomography (StratusOCT) images of 2 female siblings with hypermetropia, microphthalmos, and papillomacular retinal fold are described. These cases suggest the possibility of genetic transmission or predisposition and show that the resulting StratusOCT images can be nearly identical.
We investigated the effects of disease itself and PUVA treatment on surface epithelium of conjunctiva in psoriatic patients (PP) before PUVA and after PUVA therapy and in 32 healthy volunteers. Squamous metaplasia was detected in PP both before and after PUVA therapy. We concluded that PUVA treatment applied together with preventive measures, would lead to less severe ocular side effects.
We describe and evaluate the efficiency of autologous human fibrin glue in multilayered amniotic membrane transplantation in a 66-year-old female with a persistent deep corneal ulcer and descemetocele. Defective epithelium of descemetocele was removed; separate and multilayered amniotic membranes were transplanted using autologous human fibrin glue. Finally a large amnion at the top was sutured on the cornea.
We studied tear flow in 23 renal transplant patients receiving cyclosporine A. Four minute Schirmer test was done once before and three times after starting cyclosporine A. Average tear flow was 9.7+/-0.9 before treatment and 15.9+/-1.1 at 1-2 months after renal transplant, 16.5+/-1.3 at 3-5 months and 17.6+/-1.4 at 8-10 months. Tear flow was significantly increased following oral cyclosporine treatment.
We report intraoperative hypotony throughout the 25G vitrectomy procedure of an elderly patient with dense vitreous hemorrhage when switching to a 20G cutter. This was due to fluidic mismatch between the 25G infusion and 20G aspiration systems. No leakage from the sclerotomy sites or choroidal effusion was noted.
We tested the efficacy of azithromycin ophthalmic solution for the treatment of chronic mixed anterior blepharitis. The findings suggest that patients with chronic mixed anterior blepharitis can be more effectively treated with azithromycin ophthalmic solution than erythromycin ophthalmic ointment. Patients treated with azithromycin ophthalmic solution show an extraordinary clinical response with shorter treatment duration.
We investigated the effectiveness and safety of conventional surgery on longstanding retinal detachments (RD) with subretinal bands (SRB). We found that conventional surgery were safe and effective method in the treatment of inferior chronic rhegmatogenous RD cases with SRB without other signs of advanced proliferative vitreopathy. Further studies with larger numbers and longer follow up are needed.
We evaluated the epidemiology, visual outcome, and clinical characteristics of serious eye injuries and identified preventable risk factors. We concluded that many accidents and their resulting injuries were preventable by education, greater intensive care and workplace safety. Perforating ocular injuries in rural environment are still a big therapeutic, social and economic problem.
We evaluated the risk factors for pterygium development in Eastern Turkey. Mean protrusion value of all eyes with pterygium (all eyes in bilateral pterygium subgroups and only eyes with pterygium in unilateral pterygium subgroup, n = 130) was 16.76 +/- 2.69 mm. In all cases pterygium occurred in the eye that had greater protrusion value suggesting greater protrusion degree might be a risk factor.
