Fifty-six contact lens-related corneal ulcers (central in 32; hypopyon in 24 and stromal abscess in 6) were studied. Culture was positive in 78.9%. Corneal ulcers healed with intense antibiotic therapy in nearly all patients. Increased awareness of lens care/disinfection and frequent replacement of storage cases and solution, and early detection of pathogens and intensive appropriate antibiotic therapy are key points in management.

A 30-year-old-lady, (Case 1) was found to have brucella uveitis in her left eye. Serum agglutination (SAT) and SAT/Coombs titers were positive at 1:320 and 1:160, respectively. In Case 2, a 12-year-old-girl diagnosis of left brucellosis uveitis was made. Both SAT and SAT/Coombs titers were positive at 1:1280. This report confirms that Brucellae organisms as a cause of uveitis.

We evaluated the efficacy of Zaraccom F260 intraocular lenses (IOL) on cataract treatment in 97 adult cataract patients (114 eyes) who underwent phacoemulsification and IOL implantation. The mean preoperative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.26 +/- 0.26 at one week 0.49 +/- 0.25 and 0.9 +/- 0.28 at follow-ups. The Zaraccom F 260 is an alternative for the patients requiring lens replacement.

We retrospectively examined the efficacy of a single juxtascleral anecortave acetate depot injection for the treatment of fibrotic choroidal neovascular lesions with presence of residual peripheral activity in age related macular degeneration in 20 consecutive patients who rejected intravitreal treatment. As a second line-therapy of classic and occult fibrotic lesions with active peripheral zones, anecortave seems to be a vision conserving therapeutic option.

We prospectively evaluated the effect of various systemic alpha1 adrenergic receptor antagonists on pupillary dilation in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Patients who are at risk for intraoperative floppy iris syndrome cannot be elucidated simply by judging preoperative dilation.

We report a case of a patient with previously treated follicular thyroid carcinoma who presented with a symptomatic amelanotic choroidal mass with low internal reflectivity and a metastatic lytic skull lesion. A 25-gauge vitrector was used to perform transretinal choroidal biopsy (TRCB), confirming the diagnosis of metastatic follicular thyroid carcinoma.
