Snowflake degeneration is a late complication of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) intraocular lens implants. We report a case of asymptomatic advanced snowflake opacification presenting 13 years after implantation who maintained a visual acuity of 6/6. This report serves to illustrate the variability of the clinical effects of snowflake degeneration, which do not necessarily correlate with slit-lamp appearances.

We report a rare case in which triamcinolone acetonide particles gathered on posterior lens capsule after injection of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide. Intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide is useful in the treatment of macular edema; however, accumulation of triamcinolone acetonide particles on the posterior lens capsule may decrease visual acuity and requires surgical treatment.

A 21-year-old male with bilateral low visual acuity since childhood was diagnosed with posterior microphthalmos. He underwent scleral windows surgery for one eye. Although visual acuity didn't improve significantly due to amblyopia, the papillomacular fold flattened and reduced in size postoperatively. We suggest early screening and management to prevent amblyopia especially in children of affected families.

We investigated the results of phacoemulsification surgery with or without capsular tension ring in eyes with traumatic subluxated cataracts with zonular dialysis. Capsular tension ring implantation before nucleus emulsification in subluxated cataracts will reduce various complications.

We report a case of bilateral choroidal metastasis presenting with acute unilateral glaucoma. Primary tumor was found in the lung and choroidal masses in both eyes. Anterior segment neovascularization causing intraocular pressure elevation was the only presenting sign of metastatic choroidal tumor. A painful and hypertensive eye could be symptoms of choroidal metastasis even if no systemic malignancy is encountered.

Colloid cysts are rare intracranial tumors most commonly found in the third ventricle. We present a case of colloid cyst of the third ventricle that manifested as bilateral advance optic disc cupping, superior hemifield defects in the visual fields and normal intraocular pressure.

Painful orbital inflammation and scleritis-like clinical appearance can be the initial manifestation of acute retinal necrosis. We report a 25-year-old woman who first presented with painful orbitopathy that eventually developed into unilateral acute retinal necrosis with typical fundus appearance. Our case illustrates the importance of careful fundus examination in cases presenting with painful orbital inflammation.

We evaluated the efficacy and safety of tacrolimus in prevention of allograft rejection in high-risk allo-limbal grafts. Six eyes of six patients with severe limbal stem cell deficiency were included. All patients were started 0.1 mg x kg 1 x day(-1) tacrolimus orally 3 days before the surgery. Limbal allo-graft transplantation for ocular surface reconstruction had a successful outcome with using systemic tacrolimus for immunosuppression.

We prospectively evaluated 59 eyes following uneventful phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation with optic coherence tomography at one and seven postoperative days (POD). Acute vitreomacular traction was observed in two eyes (3.3%) at the first POD. Spontaneous resolution occurred in both eyes within one week. The temporary visual loss associated with acute vitreomacular traction syndrome may go unnoticed as visual acuity rapidly improves.

We investigated the effects of melatonin on cataract formation in rats exposed to selenite. We concluded that the imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants plays an important role in cataract formation and melatonin decreases cataract incidence in rats by increasing antioxidant activity.
