Periodontitis being an immuno-inflammatory disease can act as an aggravating factor for various systemic diseases. Therefore, it is of interest to document the prevalence of comorbidities among periodontitis and non-periodontitis Indian patients. 680 patients were enrolled, categorized into non-periodontitis group (Group A) and periodontitis group (Group B). Each group was again sub-grouped into comorbidities and non-co-morbidities. Periodontitis patients were found to have significantly more co-morbidities than non-periodontitis patients. Osteoporosis and obesity showed statistically higher levels in periodontitis patients. Hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, and COVID-19 infection showed higher prevalence in periodontitis group, though the difference was statistically non-significant.

Anatomy is a vital discipline in the realm of Medicine, and its primary means of study is through the use of cadavers. Experts in the medical, legal, and ethical domains have discussed the use of cadavers or their anatomical parts for educational purposes, which are considered a severe drawback. The advantages of using cadavers include their contribution to medical education, research, the investigation of innovative surgical procedures or techniques, the detection of anatomical differences at an individual or population level, the enhancement of surgical skills, and the support of other anatomical investigations. This review highlights the issues like consent, respect for the deceased and cultural beliefs on cadaver procurement practices and also it emphasizes the need for better body donation initiatives and public awareness campaigns to ensure sustainable cadaver procurement practices, ensuring consent, respect for the deceased and cultural beliefs.

The application of nanoparticles in the form of solution for irrigation, medication and as an additive for sealer/restorative material has been evaluated to improve the antibacterial efficacy in the field of endodontics. Recently developed nanobots are injected into the teeth to destroy pathogens and they are more effective in root canal therapy. They are helical shaped and composed of silicon dioxide with iron embedded into the silica body to provide magnetic properties. They are also able to move within the dentinal tubules and are manipulated peripherally through a low-intensity magnetic field. These nanobots can be administered into the cleaned central canal of a tooth samples which are immersed in deionized water and their motions are monitored using a near-infrared imaging technique to produce heat which is a hyperthermia-based bactericidal method which help to eradicate the surrounding pathogens.

Sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) is a liver-synthesized glycoprotein. Low SHBG levels are associated with insulin resistance (IR). Specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the SHBG gene are linked to IR. Therefore, it is of interest to provide a review on the comprehensive overview for SHBG related to IR.

Measles caused by the virus is highly infectious and sometimes fatal, but it is prevented through vaccination. In Kyrgyzstan, measles cases were initially documented in September 2023, with a notable escalation observed between November and December of the same year. Children aged 3-5 years and 1-2 years exhibited the highest prevalence rates, followed by infants under one year old. Unvaccinated children constituted the majority of cases, with schoolchildren and kindergarten attendees also affected. Surprisingly, a significant proportion of measles cases occurred in vaccinated children, primarily those who received the MMR or Rubella-measles vaccine. Doctors identified 22 recent measles outbreaks and none of the 75 contacts recorded in these outbreaks acquired the disease. Therefore, it is of interest to report an analysis of measles outbreak spike at Jalal-Abad city of Kyrgyzstan in 2023.

Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSMF) is a potentially malignant precancerous lesion. Various treatment modalities are tried to cure it including herbal medicaments. Therefore, it is of interest to determine whether using 1 gramme of triphala and 1 gramme of turmeric combined in a glycerine solution would be clinically effective in treating oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF). The study comprised thirty-six participants in the 18-50 age range who had no systemic problems. The medications prescribed for the patients were to be applied three to four times a day. Before and after therapy, blood samples were taken in order to check for any systemic outcomes of the drugs. Both before and after therapy, there were recordings of the burning feeling and mouth opening. For 4 months, patients were checked on a monthly basis after that. A statistical analysis was performed for the variations in the mouth opening and the changes in the burning sensation on the visual analogue scale (VAS). There was a statistically significant improvement in the mouth opening and burning sensation. Turmeric and triphala provide a natural product combination that is both safe and effective for treating OSMF symptoms.

The effectiveness of manual calculations versus 3D segmentation techniques in volumetric analysis of maxillary sinuses for gender determination is of interest. Maxillary sinuses, which vary anatomically due to factors like age, ethnicity, and gender, are crucial in forensic and anthropological contexts. Traditional methods, relying on two-dimensional imaging, are often time-consuming and prone to errors, whereas 3D segmentation offers a more precise and efficient approach. This research evaluates both methods in terms of reliability, accuracy, and practical use, potentially influencing their application in clinical and forensic settings. The findings may also enhance understanding of anatomical variations in maxillary sinuses across populations, contributing to more accurate gender determination.

Lasers are a very appealing technology in many areas of dentistry because of their minimally invasive nature, quick tissue interaction & response, and ability to heal. Numerous investigations on the possible uses of lasers in dentistry have been carried out since Maiman developed the ruby laser in 1960. Numerous applications such as quick prototyping and computer-aided design, and the study of occlusion in complete denture using three-dimensional laser scanning has been used to develop dentures. Its uses are numerous from fixed prosthodontics to dentinal hypersensitivity treatment to surface treatment of base metal alloys. These days, it even encompasses maxillofacial prosthodontics and dental implantology. Hence, it is of interest to review the use of lasers in clinical prosthodontics.

Patients who are allergic to nickel, which is present in stainless steel brackets and wires, commonly utilise clear aligners. The objective of this research was to compare the management of mandibular incisor crowding with nickel titanium (NiTi) wires and clear aligners. A random division of forty participants into two groups of twenty samples each was made. Participants in group B received transparent aligners, whereas those in group A received NiTi arch wires. We assessed malocclusion using Little's irregularity index. A survey instrument was utilised to document the degree of discomfort. Patients were routinely recalled every one, two, and three months. The mean score for groups A and B was 2.86 mm and 2.88 mm at baseline, 1.71 mm and 1.52 mm at one month, 1.02 mm and 1.23 mm at two months, and 0.72 mm and 0.48 mm at three months, respectively. The difference wasn't that big (p > 0.05). In groups A and B, the mean change in Little's irregularity index score was 1.19 mm and 1.21 mm at one month, 0.55 mm and 0.51 mm at two months, and 0.26 mm and 0.45 mm at three months, respectively. The difference wasn't that big (p > 0.05). For groups A and B, the corresponding mean discomfort scores were 2.6 and 2.3 at baseline, 2.2 and 1.8 after one month, 1.6 and 1.5 at two months, and 1.1 and 0.9 at three months. Since p > 0.05, the difference was not significant. The results of this study showed that NiTi wires and clear aligners worked just as well to treat cases of mandibular anterior crowding.

Morphometric analysis of bones gives essential information for reconstructive surgeries and prosthetics. It is also useful in forensic medicine to identify and estimate age, sex and height from skeletal remains. We have measured and analyzed the following parameters in 100 distal humerii: the maximal length of the humerus, transverse distance between medial epicondyle and lateral epicondyle, horizontal diameter of trochlea, antero-posterior diameter of trochlea, and horizontal distance from medial epicondyle to capitulum. Distal humeral fractures are often challenging and difficult to treat which requires knowledge of distal humeral anatomy. Data from this study and the comparisons made will help in this.
