Research purpose: The aim of this study is to present the essence and importance of information security awareness in the organisation and to analyse selected methods used in forming employee awareness in terms of information security. Methodology/ approach: This paper is based on literature studies and available reports. Findings: The presented paper suggests that in order to create a positive change in the organisation, information security training should focus on the attitude and behavior of employees. Concentration is primarily about what they do and how their actions affect the results. In order to minimise the risk of data breaches, often resulting from human error, training methods must meet the needs of today's employees. Effective information security awareness strategies should address the needs of both the organisation itself and the learning people. Limitations/implications: The study is based on the theoretical analysis, indicating the need of conducting further empirical research. Originality/value: The main value of the study is to clarify the need for forming employees' awareness of information security while indicating a number of available methods enabling the implementation of awareness programs in the organisation.

The aim of the article is to examine intra-organizational trust as a factor impacting satisfaction with doctoral studies. The study on intra-organizational trust is related to three types of trust: vertical trust, horizontal trust and institutional trust. In turn, perceived satisfaction is linked to knowledge and competences gained at a university (academic satisfaction) and studying atmosphere (satisfaction with atmosphere). Furthermore, the following research questions were addressed in this paper: (1) Does personal experience from the past, current personal experience and the impact of surroundings affect particular types of trust? (2) Do particular types of trust and support provided by a university influence the willingness to take a risk? Therefore, in the underlying research the following factors that may be related to trust have been studied: university's support, willingness to take a risk, personal experience from the past, impact of surroundings. The sample consisted of 41 PhD students (26 women and 16 men). The Jagiellonian University has been represented by 11 doctorate student, where as AGH University of Science and Technology surveyed 30 PhD students. The results of the study allow to answer the research question by pointing out to particular types of intra-organizational trust at a university as factors that affect PhD students’ satisfaction with doctoral studies. Study presents a positive correlation between intra-organizational trust and satisfaction at a university. Moreover, the impact of institutional trust on academic satisfaction and the influence of trust in lecturer and the impact of horizontal trust on satisfaction from atmosphere has been prove.

Purpose: The purpose of the article is to identify patterns of organizational behaviour for the manager-employee relationship and to identify differences in this respect depending on the position of the individual in the organizational structure against the background of the official business relationship on the basis of the empirical research in Polish business organizations. Methodology/approach: The tool used in the study was a standardized WAZO questionnaire designed to examine organizational solutions and organizational behaviours, both from the general perspective and broken down to behavioural dimensions, conducted in 2015 on a representative randomly selected group of 2274 employees from 40 Polish companies. Findings: Using a proprietary research questionnaire, three patterns of behaviour have been identified for the manager-employee relationship: traditional, contemporary and future, described by way of components such as the scope of power, power distance, the basis of the manager's power, the method of selection of information and the degree of stability of power. The obtained results indicate that in Polish organizations dominate contemporary behavioural patterns for the first four mentioned criteria, whereas for the last one - degree of stability of power, the dominant pattern of behaviour was the traditional pattern. Implications/limitations : Empirical studies do not take into account all elements of behaviour from the perspective of power relations, due to research limitations. Nonetheless, characterising the behavioural patterns using various criteria is universal and widely used. In addition, research on this subject is very subjective - although the research tool was standardized, the results mainly depend on how people perceive their relationships with the authorities. Originality/value: The article shows on the basis of the proprietary questionnaire the contemporary patterns of behaviour from the perspective of power relations, and recommendations for practice. Managers who know certain patterns of behaviour will be able to model employees' attitudes towards work and to shape relevant social relationships. As for employees, they may be inspired to modify their own behaviours, in accordance with the requirements of the organizational environment.

Purpose: The paper attempts to clarify the concept of positive leadership. Over the last decade a couple of models of positive leadership have been produced. The paper is purely conceptual its objective is to introduce some order and attempt to clarify what positive leadership really is. Methodology/approach: The method used in the paper is literature review. The main body of the paper presents three positive leadership concepts: fundamental state of leadership, authentic leadership and positive deviance. They are described and compared along with looking for similarities and causal relationships between them and former leadership concepts: transformational leadership and servant leadership. Findings: There are quite a few similarities and causal relationships between positive and former leadership concepts: self-awareness that is the fundamental issue in both authentic leadership and fundamental state of leadership is very closely linked to transformational leadership and servant leadership. Moreover, the whole concept of servant leadership is very close to positive way of organizing . Implications for future research: By introducing some order in the field of positive leadership the paper opens the space for future research that might more accurately address complex relationships of positive leaders. Value of the paper: Even though positive leadership has received some attention recently, this is the first paper to consider a variety of approaches and to underline the similarities, differences and possible causal relationships among them.

Purpose: This paper is addressing the question what personal characteristics help a leader to build social capital. The purpose is to present the development of a questionnaire to measure leaders’ propensity for building social capital, depending on the perceived strength of bonds; it is also aimed at presenting the preliminary results of intercultural studies. Design/methodology/approach: This paper starts with a review of the theory on social capital and Granovetter’s concept of the “strength of weak ties.” Next the process of the development of the related questionnaire is presented. Findings: The developed questionnaire is a universal and reliable tool that can be used to study various social problems in different populations. The preliminary results of the questionnaire from 10 European countries suggest that the more distant the relationship is perceived the lower is the level of trust and sense of support. Moreover, data suggest that socio-economic organizations as well as those which are longer on the market obtained the highest results on the questionnaire’s scales. Social implications: In conclusion possible applications are discussed, including measuring the dynamics of change in individuals’ preparedness to build social capital, depending on the social or political context, for example, the presumable “openness” during peaceful social activities or movements. Originality/value: Social capital is commonly seen as a positive value, both in its individual and group dimensions, and several tools exist for measuring both. However, there seems to be a void and a need for a questionnaire measuring individual’s propensity to develop social capital.

Research purpose: The aim of the paper is to analyse the logistic aspects of the military comprehensive approach to the conduct of operations. First of all, the assumptions of the NATO comprehensive approach are studied. Secondly, the role of military logistics in the comprehensive approach is discussed. Thirdly, the requirements of effective management and coordination between military logistics and civilian organisations during stability operations are identified. Methodology/approach: The research methods include the analysis of literature and official military publications such as: doctrines, handbooks and NATO summits declarations. The study encompasses military publications issued by NATO, the United States and the United Kingdom. Findings: The idea of the comprehensive approach is to combine and coordinate the efforts of military and civilian organisations within the area of the crisis management operation for the success of this operation. There are three possible roles played by military logistics within the frame of the comprehensive approach: (1) military resources and capabilities may be applied to support civilians during stability operations, (2) through contracting military logistics may contribute to the restoration of the local economy, (3) sharing their knowledge, lessons and best practices military logisticians enable international and non-governmental organisations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their logistics operations. Comprehensive approach operations should be led by civilians but due to the engagement of the resources and capabilities of military logistics close cooperation and coordination as well as coordinating mechanisms between military logistics and civilian partners are required to be established. Limitations/implications: Official military publications such as: doctrines, handbooks and NATO summits declarations are the manifestations of lessons from operations identified and learned by the military. Nevertheless, the lack of the empirical data collected directly from comprehensive approach operations should be considered as an limitation of the study to be improved in further research. Originality/value: So far, not enough research attention has been given to the issue of the military logistics engagement in the comprehensive approach. Lis","doi":"10.12775/JPM.2016.008","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.12775/JPM.2016.008","url":null,"abstract":"Research purpose: The aim of the paper is to analyse the logistic aspects of the military comprehensive approach to the conduct of operations. First of all, the assumptions of the NATO comprehensive approach are studied. Secondly, the role of military logistics in the comprehensive approach is discussed. Thirdly, the requirements of effective management and coordination between military logistics and civilian organisations during stability operations are identified. Methodology/approach: The research methods include the analysis of literature and official military publications such as: doctrines, handbooks and NATO summits declarations. The study encompasses military publications issued by NATO, the United States and the United Kingdom. Findings: The idea of the comprehensive approach is to combine and coordinate the efforts of military and civilian organisations within the area of the crisis management operation for the success of this operation. There are three possible roles played by military logistics within the frame of the comprehensive approach: (1) military resources and capabilities may be applied to support civilians during stability operations, (2) through contracting military logistics may contribute to the restoration of the local economy, (3) sharing their knowledge, lessons and best practices military logisticians enable international and non-governmental organisations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their logistics operations. Comprehensive approach operations should be led by civilians but due to the engagement of the resources and capabilities of military logistics close cooperation and coordination as well as coordinating mechanisms between military logistics and civilian partners are required to be established. Limitations/implications: Official military publications such as: doctrines, handbooks and NATO summits declarations are the manifestations of lessons from operations identified and learned by the military. Nevertheless, the lack of the empirical data collected directly from comprehensive approach operations should be considered as an limitation of the study to be improved in further research. Originality/value: So far, not enough research attention has been given to the issue of the military logistics engagement in the comprehensive approach. Therefore, through exploration of the role of military logistics within the context of the comprehensive approach to operation and the study of its relationships with humanitarian logistics the paper contributes to filling the knowledge gap.","PeriodicalId":103376,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Positive Management","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123105399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
