The article deals with personal proper names translation from Russian into English. Personal names are culturally significant elements and very often raise questions and present difficulties in translating from one language to another. Despite the developed system of transliteration and transcription, translators always face the problem of the cultural specificity of the proper name and the personal name as its variety. The novels of the English-writing Russian author Olga Grushin offer the internal translation of personal names, those done by the bilingual author herself.

The article is dedicated to the popular argument among nativists, who use it against the empiricist approach. We analyze the strongest objection against the poverty of the stimulus argument which is the curry argument. As a result of the critical consideration of the poverty of the stimulus discussion, we conclude that the curry argument is quite sound.

The relevance of the research is determined by the need for a comprehensive study of phraseological units used in the genre of science fiction. The purpose of the study is to analyze Ray Bradbury's phraseological units in a translational aspect. The phraseological units were selected by the method of continuous sampling and examined via comparative lexico-stylistic method. The following methods of interlanguage transformation were used in the translation: partial and full equivalents; descriptive method; overtonal translation; literal translation; omission.

The article examines a special translation of ethnic culture carried out by a non-Russian bilingual writer in a Russianlanguage fiction text. The authors hypothesize about a special kind of cultural translation that is not considered within the framework of academic translation studies. This type of translation is carried out by a non-Russian bilingual author who creates artistic texts in Russian about the culture of the people to whom s/he belongs by right of birth. Theoretical substantiations are summarized, which, from the point of view of the authors of the article, can serve as an evidence base for the hypothesis put forward. The most relevant theoretical foundations are the works of Y. M. Lotman, G. D. Gachev, G. P. Melnikov.

The article analyzes the understanding of human nature by representatives of Russian spiritual and academic philosophy, developed by them in the course of criticizing the ideas of anthropological materialism and Marxism. The author notes some originality of the attempts of Orthodox philosophers to substantiate and defend the theistic "metaphysics of man" in the course of constructing their own version of the philosophy of religion. According to the author of the article, thinkers from Orthodox higher schools recognized religious and social anthropology, which they interpreted in a peculiar way, as an alternative to the economic materialism of "scientific socialism".

The article deals with linguistic and didactic aspects of a scientific and technical text as a unique unit of teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at a technical higher educational institution. Special emphasis is made on the role of a didactic component constituting the methodological basis on which ESP teaching is carried on – the objective, tasks, teaching methods, authenticity of the curricular material for each particular level of learning. Thoroughly analyzed are the dominants of a linguistic component specific to a scientific and technical text as an informative structured fragment of verbal environment, since all kinds of speech activity in a foreign language are mastered within that environment. The practical significance of the theoretical concepts is supported by selected examples from the textbook “Guide to Professional English in Use”.

Roman E. Seleverstov
The article analyzes the reflections of Russian thinkers of the XIX - early XX centuries on the historical fate of Russia and examines the original concepts developed during this period. Taking into account the historical situation in the modern world, the author pays great attention to the views of Russian philosophers on the nature of relations between Russia and Europe and the peculiarities of their development. In this regard, the author also considers the Eurasian doctrine, which believes that only turning to Asia and looking at Russia from the East opens up an opportunity for an adequate understanding of the historical development of Russia. The author hopes that acquaintance with the original concepts of Russian thinkers will help outline approaches to the formation of a new national idea, find the optimal balance between national specifics and foreign experience, and develop a strategy that will ensure the socio-economic progress of Russian society and will contribute to the further revival of Russia and the acquisition of a historical perspective.
