This study compared the difference between safflower yellow combined with pitavastatin calcium or with atorvastatin in preventing carotid plaque formation in cerebral infarction patients. Patients with acute cerebral infarction were randomized into groups A and B. Group A received safflower yellow and atorvastatin, while Group B received safflower yellow and pitavastatin calcium for 15 days. Both groups were evaluated for the efficacy of treatment after 6 months. Compared to the group receiving pitavastatin calcium, the atorvastatin group had lower serum total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and inflammatory factors, and a higher high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level (P < 0.05). There was no difference in the effect of treatment on other markers such as whole blood viscosity, fibrinogen, and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale scores (P > 0.05). However, the incidence of adverse reactions was higher in group A than in group B (P < 0.05). To sum up, safflower yellow combined with pitavastatin calcium for cerebral infarction patients can effectively reduce carotid plaque area and improve lipid levels, inflammation, and hemorheology.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a common immune disease with early symptoms of joint swelling, morning stiffness, pain, and swelling. It could develop into a joint deformity as the disease progresses, resulting in the loss of normal joint function and seriously affecting the patient’s quality of life. Methotrexate is the “anchor drug” for rheumatoid arthritis treatment, which has an immunosuppressive effect and could effectively prevent the abnormal activation of B cells in vivo, inhibit the abnormal generation of cytokines, and relieve related symptoms. However, in some cases, methotrexate alone is not ideal and often needs to be combined with other drugs like xianlinggubao capsules. This study has provided an experimental basis for the combined efficacy of methotrexate and xianlinggubao capsules for female patients with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis and their impact on ovarian function.

We have examined the effect of atomoxetine and Xiaoer Huanglong granules combined with psycho-behavioral modification therapy on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder children. Children diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder were treated with atomoxetine + Xiaoer Huanglong granules (control group) or atomoxetine + Xiaoer Huanglong granules and received psycho-behavioral modification therapy (treatment group). The results show that the treatment group presented a higher overall response rate and a shorter duration of hyperactivity, inattention, and emotional instability than the control group (P < 0.05). After treatment, higher correct scores and serum levels of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor, lower error scores and error rate, as well as lower Abbreviated Symptom Questionnaire and Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham, version IV Scale scores, were observed in the treatment group (P < 0.05). Moreover, the incidence of adverse reactions in both groups was similar (P > 0.05). To sum up, atomoxetine, Xiaoer Huanglong granules, and psycho-behavioral modification therapy can effectively improve the learning concentration of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder children.

We have examined the effect of early enteral nutrition on postoperative recovery as well as the incidence of complications in patients undergoing laparoscopic rectal cancer surgery. The control group received traditional nursing care for postoperative nutrition, whereas the treatment group received early postoperative enteral nutrition. Relative to the control group, the postoperative anal exhaust time, first defecation time, first eating of solid food time, bowel sound recovery time, and hospital stay in the treatment group were shorter (P < 0.05), nutrition-related indexes including serum total protein, albumin, and prealbumin were elevated (P < 0.05), levels of serum inflammatory factors C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α were lower (P < 0.05), peripheral blood CD3+, CD4+, and CD4+/CD8+ cells were elevated, while CD8+ cells were decreased (P < 0.05). The incidence of postoperative complications in the treatment groups was lower relative to the control group (P < 0.05). To sum up, early postoperative enteral nutrition can not only promote the immune function and nutritional status of patients undergoing laparoscopic rectal cancer surgery but also help reduce the postoperative inflammatory response and promote recovery.

Ferroptosis is a regulated cell death implicated in various diseases, including stroke. We have explored the ferroptosis related key genes and the underlying association with acute ischemic stroke. Differentially expressed mRNAs and miRNAs in ischemic stroke were screened based on the GSE16561 and GSE95204 datasets, respectively. Ferroptosis-related genes were downloaded from the FerrDb and GeneCards databases. Eleven ferroptosis-related differentially expressed genes were identified. Based on weighted gene co-expression network analysis, three key modules were identified as being closely associated with stroke. Furthermore, two hub genes, lysosomal associated membrane protein 2 and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3, were selected by a support vector machine-based recursive feature elimination algorithm based on machine learning and showed excellent diagnostic accuracy in stroke, with an area under the curve value of 0.939 and 0.875 in the GSE16561 cohort, respectively. Furthermore, the Comparative Toxicogenomic Database predicted 24 potential therapeutic drugs targeting the two hub genes. To sum up, the identification of hub genes associated with ferroptosis and acute ischemic stroke based on bioinformatics analysis may contribute to the exploration of promising diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers and provide clues for the prediction of therapeutic candidates.

Danggui Sini decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine preparation commonly used in the treatment of blood stasis syndrome through a mechanism yet to be defined. Therefore, we have explored its mechanism of action by combining pharmacology and gut microbiota analysis. To this end, female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 5 groups, including the control group, the acute blood stasis group, the Danshen tablet-treated group, the low-dose Danggui Sini decoction group, and the high-dose Danggui Sini decoction group. Danggui Sini decoction led to a significant reduction in the changes in the whole blood viscosity and plasma viscosity of rats with acute blood stasis syndrome, improved the coagulation function and cardiopulmonary pathological injury, upregulated the plasma 6-keto prostaglandin F1α and endothelial nitric oxide synthase, and downregulated thromboxane B2 and endothelin-1. The high throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing results showed that Danggui Sini decoction reduced the number of pathogenic proteobacteria, significantly reduced erysipelas and suzericella, and increased the beneficial bacteria Roche, effectively improving the status of intestinal flora disorder in acute blood stasis rats. The Spearman correlation analyses showed that there was a close correlation between intestinal flora distribution and changes in blood stasis-related biochemical indices. In addition, network pharmacological analysis showed that the epidermal growth factor receptor, tumor protein p53, signal transducer and activator of transcription 3, vascular endothelial growth factor A, and hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha were the core targets of Danggui Sini decoction in alleviation of blood stasis. Further genetic ontological and pathway enrichment analyses suggested that the therapeutic effect of Danggui Sini decoction on blood stasis involved the lipid and atherosclerosis pathways, advanced glycation end-product-receptor for advanced glycation end-product signaling pathways in diabetic complications, fluid shear stress and atherosclerosis pathways, and hypoxia-inducible factors, 1-alpha signaling pathway, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase- protein kinase B signaling, and other pathways. These results are helpful in understanding the mechanism by which Danggui Sini decoction improves blood stasis and provide a reference for further research.

The effects of triple antibiotic therapy plus probiotics on Helicobacter pylori-induced peptic ulcers were assessed. To this end, patients diagnosed with Helicobacter pylori-induced peptic ulcers were divided into control and treatment groups. The control group received standardized triple antibiotic (rabeprazole sodium, amoxicillin, and clarithromycin) therapy, whereas the treatment group also received Compound Eosinophil-Lactobacillus tablets for 14 consecutive days. The treatment outcomes (Helicobacter pylori eradication rate, expression levels of serum procalcitonin, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and interleukin-8, and incidence of adverse events) were compared. The effective rate of peptic ulcer control and the eradication rate of Helicobacter pylori were significantly higher for the treatment group than those for the control group (P < 0.05). There was also a significant reduction in pro-inflammatory markers (procalcitonin, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and interleukin-8) in the treatment group compared to those in the control group (P < 0.05). Also, the incidence rate of adverse events in the treatment group was lower than that of the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). In conclusion, standardized triple antibiotic therapy plus probiotics can effectively improve treatment outcomes and the Helicobacter pylori eradication rate in patients with Helicobacter pylori-induced peptic ulcer.

Cistanche is known to relieve cataracts; however, the active ingredients and mechanism of action of cistanche to relieve cataracts are unclear. At present, the active ingredients of cistanche were screened through the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology website, and a total of six active ingredients were identified. Drug and disease targets were obtained through Swiss target prediction and the Genecard website, and a total of 172 common targets were identified. The biological functions and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment of the targets were found to be concentrated in the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B, forkhead family of transcription factors, and mitogen-activated protein kinases pathways. The protein–protein interaction network was established, and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and protein kinase B-related genes were found to be the key genes. Molecular docking was carried out between the active ingredient and the key target, and it was found that the combination of the active ingredient and the key target was stable. In summary, cistanche can reduce cataracts by regulating the key targets of the active ingredients and thus alleviating cataracts.

At present, the active ingredients of cistanche were screened through the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology website, and a total of six active ingredients were identified. Drug and disease targets were obtained through Swiss target prediction and the Genecard website, and a total of 172 common targets were identified. The biological functions and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment of the targets were found to be concentrated in the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B, forkhead family of transcription factors, and mitogen-activated protein kinases pathways. The protein–protein interaction network was established, and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and protein kinase B-related genes were found to be the key genes. Molecular docking was carried out between the active ingredient and the key target, and it was found that the combination of the active ingredient and the key target was stable. In summary, cistanche can reduce cataracts by regulating the key targets of the active ingredients and thus alleviating cataracts.","PeriodicalId":10976,"journal":{"name":"Current Topics in Nutraceutical Research","volume":"222 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139359660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have explored the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in association with cytoreductive surgery and postoperative parenteral nutrition support in advanced ovarian cancer patients. The control group received cytoreductive surgery combined with postoperative conventional chemotherapy and fasted after surgery, whereas the treatment group received neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with cytoreductive surgery and parenteral nutrition. In contrast to the control group, the operation time, hospital stay, amount of intraoperative blood loss, and abdominal fluid accumulation of the treatment group were diminished, the total effectiveness rate was elevated, serum levels of albumin, transferrin, and prealbumin were increased, levels of human epididymal protein 4, vascular endothelial growth factor, and carbohydrate antigen 125 were declined, and the Karnofky Performance Status score was higher. While there was no difference observed in the 1-year survival rate or total incidence of complications between the two groups, the quality of life of patients in the treatment group improved.
