The success of intercultural communication depends largely on how accurately the communicative goal of the speaker is expressed. Means that contribute to the communicative goal are nationally specific, so they can vary significantly in the texts of intercultural communication. The object of scientific observation in this article is textual repetitions of different types and ways of their expression in the translation and the original text. The aim of this study is to identify the communicative functions and the specificity of textual repetitions, used in the Chinese and Russian texts of the journalistic genre. The material of this research was the report delivered by the Chinese Presi-dent Xi Jinping at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China on October 16, 2022, and its Russian version. The article focuses on the intercultural features of the elements of cohesion in the texts of intercultural communication in Chinese and Russian. The result of the study is to identify the types of communicative tactics in the transfer of comparable information in the texts in Chinese and Russian: correspondence, incomplete correspondence and inconsistency. It is demonstrated that in the translation of the repetitions the Russian-speaking text to a large extent corresponds to the original, preserves the text-forming connections created by these repetitions, but has national specificity in the stylistic processing of the original.

The subject of the research in this work was the commercial nomination of confectionery products, formed on the basis of a precedent text. The relevance of the study undertaken is due, on the one hand, to the in-creasing practice of using a precedent text in the name and, on the other hand, to the urgent need to optimise the process of commercial nomination. The paper is based on the hypothesis that the use of a precedent text in a commercial name increases the communicative effectiveness of the name among potential consumers. It is shown that the communicative effective-ness of a name is determined by the potential inherent in the word for its use as a commercial name, and its components are the associative corre-spondence of the word name, its informative value, motivation and phonetic attractiveness. At the same time, the named components are not equally important, the leading role in communicative efficiency is played by the so-called motivation of the name, understood as the degree of actualization by the word-name of a certain consumer motive. The author’s methodology for the study of the motivation of commercial names based on the precedent text is proposed. This methodology involves the calculation and further comparison of the preference index of names based on precedent and names containing no elements of precedence. The implementation of this technique confirms the hypothesis of a correlation between the use of a precedent text in a commercial name and the communicative effectiveness of this name. The conclusions obtained as a result of the study can be used in real prac-tice of creating effective commercial names of different types.

The presented research article reflects the contextual content-semantic analysis of the concept of “media image of Russia” in media information field. Along with this, the method of media analysis of the text from the political and socio-cultural positions is implemented. The image of Russia is considered within the framework of media discourse through the use of metaphorization process. The designation is given to the manipulative essence of the US mass media. The concepts of “image of the country” and “media image of the country” are differentiated in the media plane context on the material of the US mass media texts. Various forms and means of creating a negative image of Russia within the media information field are established. The conducted research makes it possible to clarify the concept of stereotypical media information. The theoretical positions of the research actualize the analysis of the cognitive format of the media image of Russia in the US media, from today’s perspective. Both headline and text media materials are subject to research. The resulting database is represented by a wide range of thematic examples taken from media analysis of original articles of political nature.

The investigation focuses on the study of syntactic means used in English wills. The contribution demonstrates the expressive potential of syntactic means; analyses means of minor and major syntax used in the genre under consideration. The paper reveals the frequency of their use. It also considers the question of appropriateness of expressive syntactic means for legal discourse and describes their functional-stylistic features. The research has allowed to outline the features of the syntactic arrange-ment of wills and to single out the most typical syntactic structures (nominative and verbal word combinations on the level of the minor syntax, complex sentences on the level of the major syntax). The contribution has also re-vealed syntactic expressive means used in English wills (inversion, syn-tactic repetition, including parallel construction, and polysyndeton) and has described their functional-stylistic features. The investigation has defined the functional status of the expressive syntactic means which encompasses clear and accurate expounding of the content and preservation of the text structure (which has shaped as a result of the historical development of the genre). The methodology of research include generalisation, description, definitive analysis, linguostylistic analysis, and context analysis.

As part of the research of modern media discourse, a round table “Russophobia and ways to neutralize it in the mass media” was held at the research laboratory “Linguistic Security and Psychology of Information Impact” of the Institute of Law and National Security of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation. Laboratory specialists and invited experts discussed the problem of Russophobia as part of the current media discourse in the mass media, as well as in new media (social networks, blogosphere, messengers, network video hosting channels, etc.), as well as, in general, destructive information flows aimed at destroying the cultural and social integrity of the Russian Federation (“cancel Russian culture”). The emphasis in the discussion of the laboratory experts is on the relevance of training specialists in working with media communication tools. During the discussion, such concepts as “linguistic security”, “Russophobia” and their impact on the media culture of Russian society were analyzed. As a result of the round table, measures were proposed to enhance linguistic security, train journalists and specialists in working with mass media, prepared to analyze destructive information flows using the entire arsenal of linguistic expertise in countering Russophobia.

Introduction. This article examined the main tasks of Chinese translation education in the new era, analyzed the problems it faces, put forward ideas about the need to transform translation education for the training of qualified personnel. The relevance of the research was determined by the importance of forming the image of China as a state with a centuries-old history, outstanding culture and science, possessing powerful resources, which could not be done without the development of intercultural communication, which was facilitated by a developed system of translation education. Aim. The goal is to analyze the current state of translation education in China and outline ways to develop this industry. Methodology and research methods. The authors are based on the analysis and generalization of the experience of teaching foreign languages in China, as well as by the method of included observation and systematic description of methodological processes. Results. The authors come to the conclusion that the transformation of translation education should provide for a change in the goals of training translation personnel (it is necessary to move from the model of training universal translators to the model of training specialists of a narrow professional orientation) and requirements for the training of translation personnel (it is advisable to subordinate the requirements to the logic of competence-based training); transformation of the model of teaching translation (it is important to move from teacher orientation to the integrated development of translation technologies and translation education) and the transformation of the teaching staff (it is necessary to develop a system of continuous professional development, more actively introduce technological advances in teaching practice). Practical significance. The implementation of the provisions of this study will make it possible to bring translation education in China to a level that meets the challenges of the time and is characterized by close and intensive social interaction in various fields of activity.

The article looks into the use of metaphors in English economic discourse and examines ways to turn conceptual metaphor analysis into a learning tool for students of business English. We studied coverage of the economic impact of the 2020-22 pandemic on the tourism industry and the role that the conceptual metaphor «economy is a patient» plays in English economic discourse about these events. In our research we used corpus, semantic, conceptual and contextual analysis. The findings show that the conceptual metaphor «economy is a patient» has been common in English economic discourse. Moreover, writers have frequently incorporated economic terminology into extended metaphors, highlighting the interplay of primary dictionary and contextual meaning in what is considered “dead metaphors”. The research proves that even trite metaphors can still have a persuasive effect on the reader creating powerful images in his/her mind’s eye. It also becomes clear that when writers use conventional metaphors, they are fully aware of their figurativeness. From our perspective, using conceptual metaphor analysis methods in a business English class helps to achieve a number of teaching goals: it gives students useful insights into the origins of economic terminology, makes them culturally competent, helps them develop communicative skills. Therefore, it can be a useful learning tool. The research contributes to the study of metaphor in modern economic discourse. The findings of the research could be used to develop ways to help students to acquire a number of important communication and professional skills.

The article considers the phenomenon of intertextuality as a textual category. The non-recognition of intertextuality can lead to communication failure in dialogic, when the recipient attempts to enter the communicative intention of the sender, as well as at the time of reading, when the recipient is decoding and analyzing the information received. The relevance of the research is determined by the importance of the more detailed study of such means of explication of intertextual connections as allusion and precedent phenomena within the modern German poetry Internet discourse. The aim of research is to identify the means of intertextuality actualization, that are the causes of communication failure in the interpretation of the modern German texts. Methodology and research methods. The research work used methods of systematization and generalization of the scientific material, a descriptive-analytical method, the method of lingual-stylistic analysis of the text. Results. The article focuses on the polyphony of the German poetry texts, that is expressed in the incorporation of literary and cultural-specific codes. Precedent phenomena and allusions are the sources of communication failures in German poetry discourse and they serve as preferential ways of building intertextual connections in German poems. The author recommends to increase the levels of linguistic and general cultural competence in order to minimize the communicative dissonance, that is a result of the non-recognition of intertextuality. Scientific novelty lies in the study of the specifics of communication failures on the example of modern German poetry discourse.
