The study comparatively examined the extent to which students’ efforts put in their studies influenced students’ performances in Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations as reflected in School Performance Index (SPI). The objectives were: i) to investigate the levels of efforts put in by students from schools in Central and Northern Uganda to excel in UCE examinations; ii) to compare the strength of influence of students ’effort and other students-related factors on SPI in UCE examinations and iii) compare the variations in the SPI in UCE examinations among the schools from Central and Northern Uganda with the levels of efforts put in by the students in their studies.Quantitative and qualitative approaches, were used. 72 school leaders, 80 teachers, 140 students, 12 parents and 15 Key Informants (KI) participated. Data was collected using interviews, questionnaires and analysed using frequency counts, percentages and t-test. UCE examination results from 2001 t0 2011 were got from school files and analysed to obtain School Performance Averages (SPA), School Performance Indices (SPI) and Rate of School Performance Change (RSPC)The results showed Students from Central Uganda put in more effort in their studies, than those students from Northern Uganda and students effort was the second strongest factor influencing the SPI in UCE examinations in the schools from Central and Northern Uganda. Therefore, higher SPI in UCE examinations observed in schools in Central Uganda are not by chance, but a reflection of the efforts of the students. School leaders, especially, of schools in Northern Uganda therefore need to encourage students to aim to put more efforts. There is need to investigate further why the students of schools from Northern Uganda are not putting more efforts.

In response to the application of drones in real life, drones are more susceptible to interference and influence from various external factors such as weather, site, airspace, etc. during flight operations or related tasks. Not only can they not guarantee the completion of expected goals or tasks, but they are also prone to problems such as falling, collision, or accidental injury caused by the unstable state of drones. The drone flight simulation, virtual training, and drone database system developed based on VR technology has improved the safety, diversity, and instability of drones in practical applications, and reduced the interference of external adverse factors on drone flight. A comprehensive drone model database system has been established. This provides effective guarantees for the application and implementation of drones in various fields.

The pandemic outbreak presented many challenges to higher education in the UAE, but the government and universities adapted quickly to ensure that students could continue their studies without interruption. The Ministry of Education launched a virtual learning initiative that provided universities and colleges with the necessary guidance and resources to deliver their courses and lectures remotely. The government offered financial assistance and launched several initiatives to help students access the necessary tools and technology to continue their studies remotely, such as providing laptops and tablets to students who needed them. The Department of Chemistry at UAEU shifted to online learning, provided faculty-wide support, and ensured that every student was able to participate in digital learning. The measures taken by the UAE government and the Department of Chemistry at UAEU ensured the safety of its students and staff while continuing to deliver quality education.

In the last decades, despite the implementation of policies aiming at the equality of opportunities in Higher Education (HE) and the improvement of the academic performance of the less privileged students, new forms of inequalities have been raised. This paper examines the factors that influence students' perceptions regarding the implementation of policies that contribute to the development of their performance. Drawing on the concept of "institutional habitus", this study presents results of a survey questionnaire of 322 students in two university institutions in Greece. The selected universities meet the criteria of different history, location and organizational structure. The findings show differences between institutions, which reveal the important role of institutional practices in students' academic performance. The findings highlight the importance of investigating factors other than social background when studying academic success and learning outcomes.

Sri Lanka is being promoted as a tourist destination and the port of Hambanthota is having visits from Passengers. The port of Hambanthota in Sri Lanka is on the busy main east-west sea route. It has become necessary to determine if a Passenger Cruise Ship can be berthed safely in differing monsoonal wind conditions. Before a ship is manoeuvred into a port in the real sense, simulator trials are necessary to be carried out to see if the ship can be manoeuvred safely in varying conditions with all available resources. Simulator trials have been recognized as a cost-effective way to determine the safe limitations and prevent mishaps. The CINEC simulator research team successfully created the simulator environment of the port of Hambanthota as a part of the research under AHEAD operations of the ministry of high education funded by the world bank. As per the analysis of the results of simulator trials, it has been concluded that the wind speed should be limited to 20 knots for safe berthing mainly due to the berthing tug power used.

Superior mesenteric artery syndrome (SAMS) or Wilkie syndrome is a rare clinical condition, the incidence of superior mesenteric syndrome reported in some previous studies can range from 0.013% to 0.78% but the true incidence is unknown. This syndrome is characterized by extrinsic constriction on the anterior surface of the duodenum by the superior mesenteric artery and the abdominal aorta, leading to the formation of an aortomesenteric angle < 25°, and a decrease in the normal distance between the aorta and the mesenteric artery to 2-8 mm. Objective: Therefore, the objective of the present study is to carry out a systematic review of the literature to describe the superior mesenteric artery syndrome. Methodology: This study is a systematic literature review, with a qualitative approach, with interpretation and analysis of the elements obtained. The research was carried out from the survey of scientific articles found in the main search platforms for scientific articles: ScienceDirect, PubMed, SciELO, Bireme, from 2017 to 2022. Results and discussion: For this review 15 articles were selected as the studies showed that the symptoms of Wilkie syndrome are confusing, epigastric pain, vomiting, heartburn may be signs of other gastrointestinal pathologies such as gastroesophageal reflux, as presented in the literature. In chronic patients, non-operative therapy is often prolonged due to the long period of hospitalization, with a low success rate ranging from 14 to 71%. Strong's operation, gastrojejunostomy, and duodenujejunostomy are treatment options for Wilkie syndrome. Final considerations: The diagnosis of Wilkie syndrome often depends on a high index of clinical exclusion of other diseases, resulting in ineffective symptomatic symptoms. For this reason, a detailed history should be taken and after careful endoscopic evaluation, CT images should be analyzed carefully and surgery should be considered in cases of longer duration with nutritional support, always emphasizing the importance of individual assessment of each patient.

The Family Health Strategy is recognized as a proposal for the reorientation of the care model, carried out through the implementation of multidisciplinary teams in basic health units. The practical management of nurses is an important instrument for the implementation of health policies. The aim of this research is to identify the scientific evidence available in the literature on the competencies of nurses in the Family Health Strategy. The study presents the results of an integrative review of the literature on the process of practical management of nursing care in the Family Health Strategy. We analyzed 17 articles from the selection in the databases of the Virtual Health Library, with a time frame from 2018 to 2022. The PICo strategy was used, where P = Participants, I = Area of Interest, Co = Outcome of the study. The analysis of the literature highlights the importance of nurses inserted in the work process of the Family Health Strategy. The results show that practical management and care are inseparable for the work organization process.

As a result of emergency online teaching during the covid-19 pandemic, this study was conducted to determine faculty (n=144) and students’ (n=350) perceptions with their experience in an online teaching and learning environment as well as students’ preferred learning modality. Compared to students, faculty indicated better overall satisfaction with their commitment to teaching and their comfort level with technology prior to emergency online instruction, Wilk’s Λ= .851, F (7,428) = 10.721, p= <.001. Both, faculty and students were least satisfied with the quality of instruction during emergency online learning. The majority of students were more inclined toward in person learning (37%) followed by hybrid (33%) and online (30%) modalities. This study has uncovered additional challenges brought by the pandemic during emergency online teaching as well as opportunities expressed by participants. Future studies must explore learning modalities in greater depth (hi-flex, hybrid, fully online (synchronous/asynchronous), and in-person) to suit the diverse needs of students.

Gonzalez","doi":"10.31686/ijier.vol11.iss3.4102","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31686/ijier.vol11.iss3.4102","url":null,"abstract":"As a result of emergency online teaching during the covid-19 pandemic, this study was conducted to determine faculty (n=144) and students’ (n=350) perceptions with their experience in an online teaching and learning environment as well as students’ preferred learning modality. Compared to students, faculty indicated better overall satisfaction with their commitment to teaching and their comfort level with technology prior to emergency online instruction, Wilk’s Λ= .851, F (7,428) = 10.721, p= <.001. Both, faculty and students were least satisfied with the quality of instruction during emergency online learning. The majority of students were more inclined toward in person learning (37%) followed by hybrid (33%) and online (30%) modalities. This study has uncovered additional challenges brought by the pandemic during emergency online teaching as well as opportunities expressed by participants. Even though research shows that incorporating metacognition-based pedagogy into the classroom leads to improved student performance, educators' grasp of the concept remains limited. It is argued that educators would benefit from a deeper familiarity with the metacognitive approach if they worked with students to foster a belief that education has the potential to inspire a lifelong curiosity for discovery and improvement. This article therefore provides a synthesis of the analysis of the outcomes of implementing metacognition-based pedagogical approaches (N = 83), published between 2016 and 2021. Researchers looked into teachers' conceptualizations and implementations of pedagogical strategies in order to comprehend the factors that stimulate students' perceptions of innovation. From these studies, we can infer that the learner experiences, perceives, and comprehends the new information as an integral part of himself, rather than as an imposition from without. The findings led to the presentation of five hypotheses about how educators can improve their practice by learning more about students' perceptions, cognitive experiments, and interpsychic and intrapsychic social relations.
