The competency-based curriculum (CBC) is presently being implemented in public primary schools in Kenya. Yet, empirical evidence indicates that schools’ management faces a lot of challenges, hence making it very difficult for the implementation of the new programme. The study sought to explore the influence of schools’ management financial preparedness on implementation of CBC in Kirinyaga west subcounty, Kirinyaga County, Kenya. The study was anchored on Curriculum Implementation Theory, Theory of Organizational Readiness for Change, and Kurt Lewin Change Management Model. The study adopted mixed method approach, which allowed concurrent triangulation of data where both quantitative and qualitative methodologies were used. Target population comprised 68 headteachers, 1,020 teachers, 15, 500 CBC pupils and 4 sub-county education officials totaling to 16,592 respondents. Yamane Formula was used to sample 399 respondents that were identified using purposive and stratified random sampling techniques. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect quantitative data from teachers whereas an interview guide was used to collect qualitative data from head teachers and subcounty education official. Quantitative data was organized and processed descriptively and inferentially using SPSS (version 23) and presented using frequency tables. Linear regression was carried out under inferential statistics. Qualitative data was analyzed using thematic content analysis technique and presented using narratives. All research protocols were observed throughout the study, including obtaining all relevant authorizations and observing respect for the participants. The study established that schools’ financial preparedness has significant influence on the implementation of the CBC in public primary schools in Kenya. The study recommended that there is need for the government to provide enough financial resources for implementation of the CBC. School managers should be trained on how to mobilize financial resources to complement government efforts.

This paper presents the development and implementation of experiential behavioral economics course in three Middle East universities. Experiential learning has proven to have many benefits for students because of putting them at the center of the learning process and allowing them to learn by doing. More specifically, as part of the practical sessions, students were tasked to design, implement and report on one field experiment conducted in collaboration with a nudge unit. We believe that this approach whereby students apply their knowledge through experimentation to address issues relevant to their communities and environment can be more effective and impactful than traditional teaching or relying only on classroom-based experiments. In this paper, we share the lessons learned from the journey of delivering several experiential behavioral economics courses.

Non-destructive testing is increasingly being used on wooden structures. One of the preferred instruments for this task is the Stress Wave Timer, because it is portable and easy to use. This instrument needs to be calibrated to minimize possible reading errors. Tests were performed on samples of different sizes from four Amazonian timber tree species, with differing distances between the start/stop accelerometers and varying gain settings. The aim was to identify errors and find the best ratio between the Metricard SWT’s start and stop accelerometers. The best ratio was observed with settings of 40 for stop and 1 for start. The calculation of the confidence interval for the mean of the stress wave velocities expresses a degree of uncertainty ranging from 2% to 8%, regardless of the species and according to the start/stop ratio. A more in-depth evaluation led to the conclusion that the greatest degree of uncertainty occurs with short pieces. This confirms the need to calibrate the equipment, especially when using the instrument with pieces approximately equal to or less than 70 cm in length. The value for offset time (intersection of the line with the axes) was determined by a simple regression analysis, and indicated that the data correction factor varied from 1.9 to 2.2 depending on the start/stop ratio, at least in the samples studied.

This study aims to empirically analyze the long-run and short-run equilibrium relationship between the price of Korea Offset Unit (KOC) listed and traded on the Korean Exchange since May 2016, and the variables affecting it, such as Korea Allowance Unit (KAU) price, oil, electricity, economic survey prospect index of the general manufacturing business, heating index and cooling index. In general, research on emission permit prices is conducted on the demand side and the supply side. This study analyzes the relationship in the demand side, and weekly time series data for about 6 years from the end of May 2016 were used with the ARDL model. As a result of the empirical analysis, KOC showed a positive correlation between KAU and oil price, and showed a negative correlation with the prospect of Business Survey Index in the long run. In the short term, KAU, oil price, and electricity price showed a positive correlation, and the prospect of Business Survey Index showed a negative correlation.

The use of virtual and digital technological resources is a phenomenon that crosses humanity in such an intense way that it often interferes with the existential naturalness of individuals and allows to launch to the world, even if in a subtle and gradual way, a relationship of mastery of the machine with the mankind. The work aims to make the reader aware of the problem of the human-machine relationship and bring paths and reflections based on a perspective of studies and debates in the field of Philosophy, about this functioning in which it can generate a subservient behavior of the human as the creator of digital functions. but that loses this domain due to the self-development of the machine. The study's methodology is bibliographic research, as well as references to films and series such as Akira (1988); Neon Genenis Evangelion (1995) and Ghost In The Shell (1995) that address this issue and serve as a basis for analyzing the facts raised as problematic. The main result of the research was the discussions based on the term Cyber-pedagogy, which is replaced and empowered from a neologistic perspective that attributes this term to a pedagogical operation in which the autopoietic machine educates the individual and can subject him/her to a process of human instrumentalization, of which the human would be an instrument for the use of the machine and digital resources by losing its essence as the creator of the virtual digital resource.

The organizational structure of the Technological Innovation Centers (NITs) integrates diverse and complex management routines that, in general, impact on the capacity of Scientific and Technological Institutions (ICTs) to effect the transfer of technology. In this sense, the NITs seek means and tools capable of assisting in the operationalization of these administrative processes. Among the various possibilities, this article brings, in particular, the conceptual approach to design management. Design management establishes recommendations for the use of design resources according to institutional goals. Based on this approach, the article aims to identify management activities within the NITs and their relationship with design management. To this end, a literature review was carried out to build the theoretical framework, a documentary research to survey the innovation policy indicators (Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia, Inovação e Comunicação [MCTI], 2019) and application of a likert-type questionnaire in consultation with five technological innovation environments in the region Northeast of Brazil. The study is classified as applied research with a qualitative approach with an exploratory and descriptive objective. The research showed that despite the understanding of the potential of design to promote technological innovation, design management is not a practice systematically integrated into the management processes of the NIT. Subsequently, it was possible to present a set of propositions for the application of design management that support the combination of the essential and complementary activities of the NIT for the transfer of technology.

Digital platforms are tools of great importance for the evaluation of tourist destinations, as they allow tourists to access photos, evaluations and tips from users who have enjoyed destinations and attractions visited, thus being a source of consultation for other people who plan their trips. In this research, the analysis of comments on the TripAdvisor website was developed, aiming at mapping important attributes, in the visitors’ point of view, from a qualitative approach, guided by principles of netnography in the city of Paranaguá/PR, Brazil. The period considered as the basis for the analysis extended between January 2018 and January 2020 in order to reflect the realistic perceptions of the normality experienced by visitors in relation to the attractions without the bias of the Covid 19 pandemic time. In order to determine the corpus analyzed in the present study, the attractions available in the “Essential in Paranaguá” option were considered, classified by TripAdvisor as “places to see; ways to explore and; typical experiences”. Data collection was performed manually, with a copy of each comment left on the platform being made to a text document. 112 comments were compiled into a single text document with 16 pages and 6258 words, which form the textual corpus. This corpus was analyzed using the free software Iramuteq, suitable for qualitative and quantitative analysis of texts, such as correspondence analysis, hierarchical classifications, similarity analysis and word clouds. This set of possibilities enabled a better understanding of the meanings, motivations and perceptions emanating from the texts that make up the interactions of users of the TripAdvisor website in relation to the attractions of the city. Preliminary analyzes reveal that ‘Ilha do Mel’ and ‘Ilha dos Valadares’ are the most prominent attractions. The Descending Hierarchical Classification of the text indicates the existence of 7 categories of perception with related and statistically significant terms in the Chi-Square test. It was noted that ‘Ilhai do Mel’ is perceived as a place that is "worth" to be visited and that it has positive reviews and full of tips on how visitors can enjoy the best options during their visit.
