Non-Carious Cervical Lesions (NCCL) are characterized by irreversible and gradual loss of mineralized tissue near enamelcement junction, and they may cause dentin hypersensitivity, characterized by an acute and short-term pain. They can be treated through restorative procedures and removal of etiologic agents. This case report used composite resin for restoring one NCCL in inferior premolar. Selective acid etching and two-step adhesive system were done. The final result provided a satisfactory aesthetic, besides eliminating dentin hypersensitivity.

Introduction: Parents frequently seek Paediatricians supervision during normal growth and development of their children. The repeated contact between patients and paediatricians renders an ideal prospect for Paediatricians to determine risks associated with oral health and enlighten parents on counselling and preventive treatment modalities during development phases. The study was thus aimed to gather information and assess knowledge and attitude of the Paediatricians from Srinagar city regarding oral health in infants and children. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was organized between January 2019 and May 2019 to assess Paediatricians awareness regarding dental health and their attitudes in relation to oral health. This study was performed among 50 randomly selected Paediatricians of Srinagar city. Data was collected and subjected to descriptive analysis. Results: Majority of the Paediatricians were familiar of the speciality of pediatric dentistry, the significance of milk teeth and considered the importance of periodic dental visits for children. It was also revealed that most of the Paediatricians showed significantly less awareness (P<0.05) of the first dental visit, early childhood caries, fissure sealants, importance of fluoride and role of medicated syrups in promoting dental caries. Conclusion: This survey reveals that Paediatricians strongly believed in having an active role in promoting oral health. Dental training should be incorporated in curriculum during medical training and Paediatricians need to regularly rejuvenate themselves on recent advancements and updates related to infant oral health which can be transmitted to their patients.

Introduction: Hypertension (HT) represents the most common cardiovascular risk factor amongst the cluster group of Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD). Clinically, HT might be defined as that level of Blood Pressure (BP) at which the institution of therapy reduces the BP-related morbidity and mortality. Azilsartan (AZL) is a relatively new Angiotensin Receptor Blocker (ARB) available for the treatment of any stage of HT. Aim: To compare the efficacy, safety and cost-effectiveness of AZL 40-80 mg once daily versus telmisartan 40-80 mg once daily in patients of stage-I HT. Methods: A prospective, open, randomized parallel group comparative study of AZL versus telmisartan was done in patients of stage-I HT. The study included 80 patients, 40 in each group (group I and group II) coming to the department of Medicine, Rajindra Hospital attached to Government Medical College, Patiala. The study was conducted over 8 weeks. Group I, patients received Azilsartan 40-80 mg per day in divided doses and group II, patients received telmisartan 40-80 mg per day in divided doses according to severity of hypertension. The therapeutic efficacy of drugs was evaluated by monitoring BP. Adverse drug reactions were monitored in patients. The daily cost for each medication was noted and total cost of drugs taken over 8 weeks was calculated. Effectiveness of the drugs was calculated in terms of mm Hg fall in mean BP. All the observations thus made were statistically analyzed using appropriate tests. Results: Patients receiving AZL 40mg and telmisartan 40mg showed a significant fall (p<0.05) in systolic Blood Pressure (SBP) and Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP) at 4 weeks and 8 weeks, when compared to baseline. The difference in SBP and DBP between Group I (AZL) and II (Telmisartan) was statistically significant at 4 weeks (p<0.05) and was highly significant at 8 weeks (p<0.001). Adverse effects such as nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory tract infection, gastroenteritis, headache, dizziness, and fatigue were reported with both drugs. Conclusions: Reduction of BP with AZL was more as compared to telmisartan at 4 weeks and 8 weeks. Safety and tolerability was similar in both groups.

Background: Cognitive deficits seem to be more prevalent in relatives of patients with bipolar disorder type I compared to relatives of BD type II patients. Assessment of cognitive performance in siblings of bipolar disorder from simplex (only one known case of bipolar disorder in first degree relatives) and multiplex (more than one known case of bipolar disorder in first degree relatives) families may provide some light to investigate the biological vulnerability in bipolar disorder. There is limited data pertaining to studies on siblings of patients with bipolar disorder and especially on comparison of effect of Bipolar I Disorder on neurocognitive functions between full biological siblings of patients from simplex and multiplex Families. Materials and Methods: This is a prospective, teaching hospital based, single point non-invasive study of 29 unaffected full biological siblings of patients diagnosed (as per DSM-IV-TR) as bipolar disorder I (BD-I) from Simplex and Multiplex families. Results: The siblings belonging to the multiplex group performed poorly on most domains of the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST). Comparison of the performance of the siblings belonging to the multiplex sub-group to those of simplex sub-group on the various domains of the Continuous Performance Test (CPT) and Spatial Working Memory Test (SWMT) did not show statistically significant difference. Conclusions: The performance in WCST is significantly affected in siblings from multiplex families than in simplex ones. Original Article

Introduction: Parkinson’s disease is a second most common neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer’s disease. It affects 1% of population over age of 50 years. Non-Motor symptoms are common in patients of Parkinson’s disease. These remain undiagnosed most of the time. Aim and Objectives: To analyse gender specific, age related and demographic variability of non-motor symptoms (Cardiovascular symptoms, sleep disorder, hallucination, sexual disorders, apathy, pain and miscellaneous symptoms) of Parkinson’s disease. Materials and Methods: Present study included 100 cases (66 males and 34 females) of Parkinson’s disease presenting at department of neurology, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana. 30 questionnaires of non-motor symptoms in Hindi and Punjabi were given to patients. Gender, age, duration of non-motor symptoms, Parkinson’s phenotype and complete demographic profile of each patient taken into account for study. Thereafter result were statistically analysed for all parameters. Conclusion: It is concluded that mean age and duration of non-motor symptoms were higher in males as compared to females. It was calculated that there was positive correlation of H&Y with age and non-motor symptoms like Cardiovascular, Sleep related disorder, apathy, pain and miscellaneous symptoms. As H&Y increases there is increase in frequency and severity of symptoms. There was difference in dominant non-motor symptoms among different genders. Sexual dysfunction and sleep disorders were more prominent in males whereas cardiovascular and miscellaneous like excessive sweating were more in females.

Objective : To determine association of body mass index with life style behaviours among students of Punjab University. Methodology : This was a cross sectional study, done among Punjab University students. Study was started after approval of Institutional Review Board of the Department of Public health and after taking informed consent. Data was collected on a self structured questionnaire. Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated after measurements of weight and height. BMI was taken normal in the range of 18.5-24.9 kg/m 2 , under-weight below 18.5kg/m 2 and overweight 25-29.9kg/m 2 . Then analysis was done using appropriate statistical tests. Results: Most of the respondent (80%) had age group 17-25 years. Majority respondents sleep late night, 93.5% were nonsmoker, 55% had good sleep 6 to 8 hours daily, 50% respondents walk 10 to 20 minutes daily, 90% did not have outdoor games activity, jogging and swimming habit. Majority (60%) respondents had normal BMI, 25% had high and 15% below normal. Demographic variable when associated with BMI age, gender, weight, height, and income were found statistically significant. Similarly, physical activities when associated with BMI then daily sleeping hours, timing of sleeping, daily walk, outdoors games, jogging and use of bike were statistically significant. Conclusion : Lifestyle of University students of young age shows that there is need to create awareness about healthy physical activities and improving their lifestyle behaviours so as to maintain a normal BMI. Descriptive statistics shows that majority of the university students do not have health lifestyle and around 25% had high BMI in spite of young age. There is need of the hour to create awareness about healthy physical activities and improving their lifestyle behaviours so as to maintain a normal BMI.

The primary objective of endodontic therapy is to achieve a three-dimensional obturation of the root canal space to remove the tissue debris, microorganisms and their by products after a proper biomechanical preparation of the pulp chambers. The missing canal of complex root canal morphology is major reason for endodontic failure. The use of magnification, illumination, recent advancements, diagnostic aids and techniques help in minimizing the incidence of missing a canal. This case report describes the rare management of a left mandibular first permanent molar requiring root canal treatment with an additional Middle Mesial Canal (MMC) in the mesial root. Clinicians experience and approach is a key factor in negotiation and management of these aberrant canal configurations.

Present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of 2% Glutaraldehyde solution, quaternary ammonium compound based wipes and foam sprays on the disinfection of orthodontic pliers. Methodology: The efficacy of disinfection methods of orthodontic pliers used in everyday practice by orthodontists was evaluated using 30 sterile pliers. They were contaminated in vitro with bacteria commonly found in the oral cavity, Streptococcus salivarius [ATCC 13419], Staphylococcus aureus [ATCC 25923] and Pseudomonas aeruginosa [ATCC27853]. Following contamination of the pliers, each of ten pliers underwent one of the three disinfectant protocols in a solution of 2% Glutaraldehyde, alcohol-free wipes containing quaternary ammonium compounds and spraying a foam containing quaternary ammonium compound. The plier heads were spread on the surface of sterile blood agar plates after contamination and after disinfection. Results: 2% Glutaraldehyde solution, quaternary ammonium compound based wipes and foam sprays were found to be effective with regards to disinfection of orthodontic pliers.
