This paper is to present a wide-ranged operation frequency synthesizer. With the use of the technology of multi-phase switching of each band produced by the divider, the best band can be automatically determined within a single reference cycle and the technology can be applied simultaneously to the transmission receivers of Wimax and WLAN specifications. In the VCO design, we use the multi-band VCO design method to achieve low slope and improve the VCO of process variation. In addition, we will improve the traditional method of comparing and selecting the band. By using the method of distinguishing whether the frequency is ahead or behind and the algorithm of rapid band switching, the way to determining the band in a single reference cycle can be reached so as to achieve the wide-ranged operation of the frequency synthesizer.

In this work, three thermal-aware kernel mappings are proposed for a three-dimensional multi-mode channel decoding architecture. The proposed kernel mappings can reduce the peak temperature and support different thermal and latency constraints. In our experiments, we show the peak temperature can be reduced from 16.2°C~33.8°C. Besides, we also demonstrate that different mapping is chosen under different thermal and latency constraints.

In the present study, we focused on the development of an indoor positioning infrastructure using ICT which is easy to personal use, and provides correct positioning information. Although GPS exhibits superior performance outdoors, as for the indoor positioning, the fixing rate and accuracy are not high enough for pedestrian navigation systems and/or LBS (Location-Based Service). In this regard, we attempted to implement indoor positioning using cellular phones with built-in GPS and NFC, which is installed in smart vending machines and widely used in Japan. GPS is becoming increasingly popular, where $GPGGA sentences produced by the GPS receiver, provide 4D G-Spatial information including latitude, longitude, altitude, time, and floor. With the rapid growth of GPS applications, this G-Spatial data is becoming the key to the implementation of seamless indoor/outdoor positioning services when both daily life and in the emergency throughout the world.

Digital forensic investigation is the methodical restoration of evidences collected as a consequence of exploration of concrete happenings based on digital data. After analyzing all the historical approaches used in existing models, their merits and demerits are conferred and an Encapsulated Approach of Forensic (EAF) Model is proposed; which encapsulates all the phases of digital investigation. It gives a systematic, meticulous and step-by-step procedure; from identification of facts and evidences to presentation of results by the investigator in front of investigating organization.

Personal Micro Grid Package (PMGP) is a basic package of home application that realizes power generation, power storage and power interchange between individual users. In the future, the power sharing by individual generation is proposed to be the model of future grid. We propose PMGP as the basic concept of future power grid which allows the power interchange among individuals. As a sample case, a design and implementation of Personal Micro Grid Package for users in the off-grid district is demonstrated.

Smart technologies promise to increase the quality of living and life - especially for elderly and impaired people. Following the “Smart City” paradigm, new challenges arise to increase the attractiveness of a residential district. This paper analyses driving and inhibiting factors in Smart Districts by a case study focusing the ageing society. It turns out that Natural User Interfaces can be seen as a forcing technology. As a result, domain-specific conditions and concepts are proposed to be implemented in dialogue systems for adaptive service provision. Objectives are to reduce the acceptance thresholds and to generate added value for all stakeholders.

Japan is rapidly becoming an aging society, with the average age of the population rising year by year. In care work, recording and managing the health of the elderly is important, but this is becoming more difficult as the information that must be managed and record increases, and in many cases must be recorded manually. This has increased an enormous burden on caregivers. To automatically recorded the health of the elderly, thus reducing the burden on caregivers, we propose a water intake automatic recording method using sound data collected using a throat microphone. In the proposed method, fluid intake is automatically recognized by using the frequency and amplitude characteristics of swallowing sounds recorded by a throat microphone. By applying this method, we were able to detect fluid intake with 95% accuracy and estimate the mouthful amount of drinking with a 3.33 ml RSME.

We propose a super-resolution system for high-resolution displays that decomposes the input image into a structure component and a texture component using total variation regularization. The structure component is processed using a shock filter and the texture component is processed by a pulse enhancement filter. This system requires less computational time compared with learning-based systems and is suitable for moving pictures such as in televisions.

Energy consumption is a major issue for LDPC decoding. To save LDPC iterative process energy, early terminations are commonly used. Traditional parity check equation is used but has a growing complexity as the block size increases. This requires a large overhead in term of area. This paper proposes an ultra-low complexity early termination (ET) scheme with a small loss of bit error rate performance based on the layer stopping (LS) criterion. The proposed ET scheme is performed by checking the number of convergent layers stopped by the LS criterion with a preset threshold. Compared with other ET schemes, the proposed ET scheme has a negligible hardware overhead and an acceptable bit error rate performance.

To improve response time of time-sensitive application in a network using low speed communication link, implementation design of a middleware bundle adjusting bandwidth between applications is proposed and performance of the design is experimentally evaluated. The experiment shows that worst case delay of a high-priority packet is reduced from 4230 ms to 218 ms.
