On the basis of the methods: comparative-historical, deductive and inductive, the principle of objectivity, an analysis of the formation of all types of sovereignty in the history of Russia is carried out and the objective conditionality of the existence of Russia as an empire-like state is shown. Historiography and source studies of this issue allowed the author to comprehend the contribution of scientists in strengthening states and the role of sovereignization in this, as a necessary attribute of an independent state. The main historical stages of Russia are analyzed, when and in what conditions this or that sovereignty was formed and thanks to which it was possible to achieve their phase required for normal state development.

During election campaigns populist slogans and promises are often used in the speeches of candidates. There are some differences although between the discourses of the progovernment and the opposition candidates. It is therefore important to study the political discourse of the 2018 presidential election campaign. Since the political struggle develops in real life and is broadcast in details in the media space, the publications of the candidates on the social network VKontakte have been chosen in order to analyze their discourses. Topic modeling of the text published overtly was used to create a thematic profile of each candidate. Comparing topic profiles the author was able, firstly, to identify and compare the topics of the prostate and opposition candidates’ populist discourses, and, secondly, to identify the most similar agendas of the candidates in the information environment using the vector space model. Thereby, the thematic profiles of the candidates identified corresponded to their ideological positioning. The opposition candidates including the systemic opposition appealed to the problems of negative mobilization in their speeches, which is based on populist slogans. The discourses of candidates who pursue a certain ideology and status have been found to be similar.

The political theory of neo-Marxist theory of complexity is a new original direction in the development of the neo-Marxist research program. In the view of the theory of complexity, the article considers the scientific issue of the “vicious circle” of the neo-Marxist approach to ideology. Neo-Marxists agreed that a capitalist ideology permeates entire social space and thereby keeps its sustainable reproduction in favor of a ruling class. There was no consensus, however, about the essence (content) of a capitalist ideology. The article aims at a scientific search for the main ideology of capitalism outside the context of the total ideological nature of the capitalist order. The synergetic deconstruction of the neo-Marxist theory of ideology assumed the replacement of a meaningful invariant with its antipode: the principle of system stability with the principle of system instability. Based on the synergetic approach, capitalism is stable due to unstable development, but only within the framework of the attractor of functioning. The theory has revealed that the ideology of “life improvement” is an attractor of the capitalist system. The concept of “capitalist ideological minimalism” has been proposed in the following formulation. The ideology of “life improvement” is at the heart of the functioning of modern capitalism as a historically continuing order for those dissatisfied with capitalism, its practical implementation is vital for the stability of a capitalist system, since the closest, and therefore the most likely option for resolving discontent with capitalism is a state of “being contented with it”.

The article assesses the level of stability of regional party systems in Russia. The empirical basis of the study was data on the results of elections to regional legislative assemblies of the Russian Federation in the period 2017–2021. The electoral volatility index of M. Pedersen is used as the main tool for quantitative analysis, as well as its modern modifications – indices of inter-electoral and total volatility. The conclusion on the diversity of party systems in the regions of Russia is justified, a typology of the regions on the level of stability of the party system is proposed.

Regional policy is a significant element of the domestic politics of a unitary state, and for a federal state it is a zone of increased attention. Russia is an asymmetric ethno-confessional democratic federation, therefore, there is a constant competition between centrifugal and centripetal trends. To ensure the integrity of the state, the leadership of the Russian Federation (RF) has to constantly transform regional policy, based on the peculiarities of the socio-economic and political situation. In the arsenal of this policy, there is a diverse arsenal of means and methods of countering separatism and extremism, which was used throughout the post-Soviet period of Russia's history. Within the first decade, the regional policy of the country's leadership was unsuccessful and ineffective, which actually led to a civil war and the beginning of the country's collapse. Since 2001, as a result of the application of radical and unpopular measures and the reform of socio-economic relations, the situation has been reversed, and then normalized. This became possible as a result of the restriction of democratic principles and the strengthening of authoritarian elements of regional politics, as well as the preservation of the archaic asymmetric structure of the federation.

The Russian Orthodox Church has always played an important role in the life of society and the state. The only exception is the Soviet period, when the church and church-state relations were going through hard times. The purpose of the article is to consider the stages of the evolution of relations between Russian society and the Orthodox Church, coinciding with certain periods of the development of the Russian state. The analysis of the history of the development and evolution of these relations made it possible to identify the features of these processes at various stages of the existence of the state.
