The purpose of this work is to provide seminar needs (seminar kit) as compliments of seminar or symposium held by university including Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). Method of this activity included launching of our main products, namely eco-print both on paper and on fabric. In this work, eco-print products on recycle papers was used as exclusive block-note covers while eco-print products on fabric were used as tote-bag materials. There were two advantages of using these products, firstly: they were made of natural ingredients without chemical synthetic materials; and secondly the products were designed specifically; one product was not similar with the others. This activity involved two partners, namely a recycle-paper producer and a tailor who make tote-bag. Result on progress of this activity was an order for seminar kit through exhibition. During the evaluation of this project it was found that Nauli Apik USU, as a seminar kit’s producer, still depends on workers whom working manually and having individual skill. In the future, management of production should be improved.

Avocado seeds are waste that can be utilized by the community while the seeds are only disposed of as waste. Avocado seeds have a hypoglycemic effect, an antidiabetic effect through its ability to reduce blood glucose levels and contain high enough starch by 23%. The high starch content allows the use of avocado seeds into flour. The avocado seed flour produced will be applied for making donuts, cookies and simulation chips. The aim of this Community Service is to provide knowledge to the women cadres group and mothers in the hope of being able to turn avocado seeds into avocado seed flour and be processed into snack foods such as cookies, donuts and simulated chips. Management of Community Service is carried out in Dalu Sepuluh-B Village, Tanjung Morawa Sub-district. The Community Service method is by demonstration and training so that women group and mothers are able and skilled at making avocado seed flour into donuts, cookies and simulated chips. The results of community service activities are that participants of the cadre group and PKK mothers have known the benefits of avocado seed flour and have been skilled in making processed products from avocado seed flour that can be applied in the community so that it can improve the degree of public health.

The service team of the Food Science and Technology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture along with the Community Service Institute of Universitas Sumatera Utara has conducted service activities for partner which are SMEs of tofu chips in the Hamlet II of Pisang Pala Village, Bangun Purba District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province between May and October in 2018. The partner named Roemah of Al Fatih, which produces raw tofu from soybeans, fried round tofu, and tofu chips. The main problem faced by the partner that began production in 2016 was the difficulty when making spherical of tofu dough as the starting material for tofu chips. So far, the partner has carried out the process of rounding out the dough manually using hand which took a long time. The service team offered a solution by granting a tofu rounder machine from stainless steel using electrical energy. Furthermore, the service team tested the production capacity of the tofu rounder machine and the conventional method (using hand). For the quality of round raw tofu (specific gravity and appearance of the product) and the quality of tofu chips, the team analysed and compared both products which were produced by hand and by machine. The results obtained the use of the tofu rounder machine can increase the capacity of round tofu production significantly, improve the appearance of round tofu products to be denser, and increase the value of preference for the texture of tofu chips produced. The grant of the tofu rounder machine is expected to help the partner for working up the company's profits in the future.
