A study of the microtopography of the surfaces of steel samples after gas laser cutting has been carried. Profi le recordsof the investigated surfaces indicate the presence of two types of surface deviations from the geometric shape: wavinessand roughness. At the same time, waviness is not present on all investigated surfaces. For different modes of the lasercutting process, the height and spacing parameters of roughness and waviness were determined. It is shown that the parametersof surface roughness after gas laser cutting are comparable to those of surfaces after such types of machiningas turning and milling. Regression equations are obtained for some roughness parameters, which show the dependenceof these parameters on the modes of the gas laser cutting process.

The results of computer simulation of thermophysical phenomena in the contact zone during blade cutting of metalswith multi-layer composite wear-resistant coatings that ensure the adaptability of the cutting wedge to friction conditionsare presented. On-site experimental studies of the cutting temperature during turning with various coatings, structuralphaseanalysis of the surface layer of the cutting tool to explain the mechanism of formation of secondary structures witha shielding effect self-organization.

The results obtained can be used to evaluate thehopper feeding device actual productivity at the design stage.

The main methods of search of malfunctions of electric equipment of rolling stock are considered: organoleptic method,parametric analysis, probability-time method, split half method (chord method), the logical method of diagnosis, methodof applying graph theory. It has been determined that the greatest effect can be btained through the creation and implementationin each locomotive depot of diagnostic tools based on computer technology and improvement of the system ofscheduled preventive repairs, as well as the transition to the repair of locomotives according to the actual technical condition.

On the basis of thermodynamics of nonequilibrium processes themodel has bееn developed, allowing to predict wear resistance and others tribotechnical parametres hardloaded hightemperatureinterfaces.
