Hungarian Landrace Guinea Fowls are famous for their excellent meat quality produced by traditional free-range farming. The study aimed to identify the optimal size of a free-range area for keeping Hungarian Landrace Guinea Fowl, and to examine its effect in combination with quantitative feed restriction on growth performance, 486 birds were randomly distributed into 18 cages. Free-range areas of different sizes (either 50 m2 or 15 m2 per bird, or without a running area) were provided from 6 weeks of age, and from 9 to 14 weeks, feed restriction at varying levels of 90%, 80%, 70% or ad libitum feeding was also applied. Body weight, body weight gain and feed conversion ratios were recorded every two weeks. Results showed that differing freerange area sizes and feed restriction had a substantial effect on the body weight of Hungarian Landrace Guinea Fowl, which was evident by the age of 10 weeks and continued until 14 weeks, where feed restriction negatively affected guinea fowl growth in free-range keeping. Guinea fowl provided with 15 m2 of free-range area per bird and fed ad libitum had the highest body weight (1378.52 ± 43.68 g) with relatively low feedconversion ratio (3.82 ± 0.14 kg feed per kg body weight gain) when compared with other experimental groups at the age of 14 weeks. The lowest body weight and feed conversion ratio was observed in groups with 15 m2 freerange area per bird and 70% feed restriction (1245.93 ± 38.64 g and 3.52 ± 0.12 kg feed per kg body weight gain), while the highest feed conversion ratio was detected in groups fed ad libitum and kept closed, without a free range area (4.34 ± 0.06 kg feed per kg body weight gain).

Wood apple (Limonia acidissima L.) is a fruit with a high nutrition content, which can protect the liver, resist pathogenic bacteria, heal wounds and prevent the development of tumors. Initial research was conducted to find out the appropriate pretreatment and alcohol concentration for the end product. The results showed that fresh wood apples were sufficiently ripe 2-3 days after harvesting, which were then washed, dried, individual apples were quartered and soaked in a glass jar containing Xuan Thanh wine (alc/vol = 40%) for 3 months. Thereafter, the wine sample exhibited a 19.8% alcohol concentration, 12.1° Brix, and had a total phenolic compound (TPC) of 2.016 mg GAE/L.

Hungarian goose production and gene conservation practices have been a tradition in Hungary for several centuries. The old Hungarian geese can only be effectively maintained if the national programs can identify economic uses of the breed. This study aimed to examine the potential use of the Hungarian landrace goose (HL) either as a purebred or crossbred with the Hungarian Upgraded breed (HU). Crossbred offspring were produced by HL ganders and HU layers, as egg production of HL layers is very low. Reproduction traits (egg production, fertility and hatchability) of parent stocks, body weight gain, feed consumption and slaughter values (slaughter loss, breast and thigh weight and proportions) and of offspring were measured. The results showed that fertility in the crossbred geese was insignificant compared to the fertility of HL purebreds, while hatchability of crossbreds was higher than that of purebred HL or HU. HL offspring had significantly lower bodyweight and weight gain, and a higher feed conversion rate than HU. The proportion of valuable meat parts (breast and thigh) was the highest in HU while weight in slaughter loss was also the highest in HU. In terms of body weight, feed conversion rate and slaughter properties, crossbred offspring showed intermediate inheritance. HL is recommended for crossbreeding with HU breeds and their offspring should be reared under free-range keeping conditions.

This study evaluates the effects of different extracts from leaves (fresh and dry) and roots of melaleuca on pathogens such as Meloidogyne spp., Phytophthora spp. and Fusarium spp. which affect pepper orchards in Hau Giang province, Vietnam. The results showed that the extracts increased the rate of death of a lethal nematode (Meloidogyne spp.) on pepper up to 100%, while the natural death rate (control) only reached to58% at 3 days after stocking in vitro, and the extracts from fresh leaves had the quickest response. However, extracts from both the melaleuca fresh leaves and roots were not effective on the development of all 11 strainsof Fusarium spp. and 5 strains of Phytophthora spp. which were tested after 3 days of inoculation. The results illustrated that the extracts of dried leaves was positive against the growth of 2 strains (18%), increased thegrowth of 8 strains (73%) and ineffective on 1 strain (9%) of Fusarium spp., and completely ineffective on all 5 strains of Phytophthora spp.

This study aimed to survey the current status of saline intrusion in Vinh Thuan district, to assess the understanding of the local people on saline intrusion, review the impact of saline intrusion on agricultural production. Salinity was measured continuously for seven months wherein 60 households and six government officials were interviewed in Vinh Binh Bac and Vinh Phong communes, Vinh Thuan district, Kien Giang province, Vietnam. The results showed that salinity was higher than 4 parts per thousand in both communes during thedry season affecting local farming models in which rice in the combined shrimp-rice model was seriously damaged resulting in household income loss by 30%. Of the 60 households interviewed, 96.7% knew aboutsaline intrusion, of which 26.7% knew about saltwater intrusion through workshops held by agrochemical sellers. At the survey site, there were three main production models, including a rice-shrimp model (58.3%), shrimp combined with other aquatic species (33.4%), and pineapple farming (8.3%). Farmers understood that saline intrusion seriously affects agricultural production (accounting for 100% of interviewed households). In terms of adaptive capacity, the interview results showed that the rice-shrimp and pineapple models are more adaptable than the shrimp and aquatic species integrated models. Based on the results, some measures are proposed to minimize the damage caused by saline intrusion as well as improve the adaptability of the farmers of Vinh Thuan district to the effects of saline intrusion.

Banh Phchum Ban, Sen Đôn Ta (Ancestors’ Day) has been a symbol of culture, belief, and spirituality, and is thepoint of convergence of Khmer culture. The holiday has gone deeply into the consciousness of the community, with an important role and significance that contributes to educating people in moral standards, such as being environmentally aware, ancestor worship and respecting those who have contributed to the Phum Sroc, to the nation and particularly expressing gratitude to the monks who act as the bridge between religion and state. This article applies perspectives, in accordance to the theory of functions (Functionalism) of the Malnowski, and studies the festival, which is in the process of modernization, with theories built on Ronald Inghart and Waye E. Baker’s methodologies. This research was conducted through fieldwork activities, observations, direct participation in some localities, and collecting and synthesizing literature about the festival made by cultural, philosophical and religious writers. A comparison and analysis assessment on holiday traditions and themodern world has recorded these changes to the festival in present-day life.
