EDUCATING SOFT SKILLS IN INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION 4.0: THE CASE OF OFFICE ADMINISTRATION, TRA VINH UNIVERSITY 工业革命4.0中的软技能教育:以越南大学办公室管理为例

Education in the direction of developing soft skills competencies for students is an issue that needs to be addressed at the training institutions. In particular, in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, it is creating many challenges for educational activities. The results from the study of soft skills situation on Office Administrationstudents indicate that most students are satisfied with the skills equipped with the rate of 74.7%, in which, communication skills, teamwork skills, presentation skills, decision making and problemsolving skills,  negotiation and conflict resolution skills are highly appreciated by students for their need. However, the actual capacity of students is only above average. Therefore, the School needs to pay more attention to the training of soft skills, innovating the training method towards approaching the Industrial Revolution 4.0 to create a quality, intellectual and soft skills capacity workforce will be the top task for current training institutions.
培养学生软技能能力方向的教育是培训机构需要解决的问题。特别是在工业革命4.0时代,这给教育活动带来了许多挑战。对办公室管理专业学生软技能现状的调查结果表明,大多数学生对所具备的软技能感到满意,满意率为74.7%,其中沟通能力、团队合作能力、演讲能力、决策与解决问题能力、谈判与解决冲突能力受到学生的高度赞赏。然而,学生的实际能力仅高于平均水平。因此,学院需要更加重视软技能的培训,创新面向工业革命4.0的培训方式,打造一支高素质、知识型和软技能能力强的劳动力队伍将是当前培训机构的首要任务。

Time management skills are one of the most important soft skills for university students. Nowaday, some universities in Vietnam have introduced this skill into teaching soft skills, including Tra Vinh University. Time management  skills determine the majority of students’ learning outcomes. However, in fact, not many  students are aware of this. By questionnaires and indepth interviews conducted in May 2019. The authors present the reality of time management skills of the Tra Vinh University students, thereby proposing solutions of integrating time management skills into teaching specialized knowledge to improve the students’ learning quality at Tra Vinh University.
时间管理技能是大学生最重要的软技能之一。如今,越南的一些大学已经将这种技能引入到软技能的教学中,包括特拉荣大学。时间管理技能决定了大多数学生的学习成果。然而,事实上,意识到这一点的学生并不多。通过2019年5月进行的问卷调查和深度访谈。作者介绍了特拉荣大学学生时间管理技能的现状,从而提出了将时间管理技能融入专业知识教学的解决方案,以提高特拉荣大学学生的学习质量。

EXPERIENCING THE INTEGRATION OF CRITICAL THINKING IN TEACHING LITERARY WORKS 体验批判性思维在文学作品教学中的整合

This article illustrates the lecturer’s experience of integrating activities in teaching a literary work, particularly a story, to build critical thinking ability for students when learning British literature based on Bloom’s taxonomy. At first, six levels of Bloom’s taxonomy were introduced, explained to 65 junior students majoring in English. Then, the sample questions in six levels of the Vietnamese folk tale “Tam Cam” were given to students as an illustration of applying to make questions in six levels relating to the story. To develop critical thinking skill, students themselves experienced different classroom activities relating to questions in 6 levels and discussedissues through reading and analyzing one British work in their undergraduate program. It is the story “The lion, the witch and the wardrobe” by Clive Staples Lewis. The students reacted positively to questions to develop critical thinking when learning this work and most of them want more classroom practice in order to  strengthen their ability to think critically. This piece of writing also expresses the lecturer’s reflection in developing critical thinking for students in teaching British literature, especially stories, using questions based on Bloom’s taxonomy.
本文以布鲁姆的分类法为基础,阐述了讲师在文学作品特别是故事教学中整合活动的经验,以培养学生在学习英国文学时的批判性思维能力。首先,向65名英语专业大三学生介绍了Bloom的六个层次分类。然后,给学生提供越南民间故事“Tam Cam”的六个层次的样题,作为学生申请与故事相关的六个层次问题的例子。为了培养批判性思维能力,学生们在本科课程中亲自体验了与6个级别的问题相关的不同课堂活动,并通过阅读和分析一部英国作品来讨论问题。这是克莱夫·斯台普斯·刘易斯的故事《狮子、女巫和衣橱》。学生在学习过程中积极回答问题,培养批判性思维,大多数学生希望更多的课堂实践,以加强他们的批判性思维能力。这篇文章也表达了讲师在教授英国文学,尤其是故事时,使用基于布鲁姆分类法的问题来培养学生批判性思维的思考。

In recent years, training units in general and Tra Vinh University in particular have paid attention to forming soft skills for  students. Cheerleading is a subject that helps learners acquiring the necessary skills for bringing smiles and the comfort to visitors during their trip. These are things that the travel businesses and tourists  desire in delivering and using the tour services. Specialized teaching associated with developing soft skills for students helps teachers gaining more advantages in the teaching process and students are access professionalskills comfortably. Some methods for supporting the integration of soft skills in specialized subjects mentioned in the article will show the feasibility, as well as the practical benefits that this combined educational activity brings to the school, students and businesses.
近年来,各培训单位,特别是特荣大学,都非常注重培养学生的软技能。啦啦队是一个科目,帮助学习者获得必要的技能带来微笑和舒适的游客在他们的旅行。这些都是旅游企业和游客在提供和使用旅游服务时所希望的。与培养学生软技能相关的专业教学有助于教师在教学过程中获得更多优势,学生也能轻松地获得专业技能。文章中提到的一些支持专业软技能整合的方法将展示其可行性,以及这种结合教育活动给学校、学生和企业带来的实际效益。

Improving the quality of active learning for students is an issue of concern at Tra Vinh University. In addition to transfering disciplinary knowledge, lecturers also pay attention to teaching personal and professional skills as well as attitudes. Since 2013 students have participated in a soft skills course which is required prior to graduation. Besides, lecturers are also trained and encouraged to integrate soft skills in professional teaching. This paper presents results from teaching observations and surveys with lecturers and students to evaluatethe success of integrating soft skills at Tra Vinh University. The results show that both lecturers and students realize the importance of soft skills in teaching specialized knowledge because they give many benefits to  learners. However, they also identify a number of problems that need to be solved to improve soft skills intergration at Tra Vinh University. The paper, therefore, propses several potential solutions to improving the quality of soft skills integration in teaching specialized knowledge.
提高学生主动学习的质量是德荣大学关注的一个问题。除了传授学科知识外,讲师还注重教授个人和专业技能以及态度。自2013年以来,学生参加了毕业前要求的软技能课程。此外,还培训和鼓励讲师在专业教学中融入软技能。本文介绍了对特荣大学教师和学生的教学观察和调查结果,以评估整合软技能的成功。结果表明,教师和学生都意识到软技能在专业知识教学中的重要性,因为它给学习者带来了许多好处。然而,他们也指出了一些需要解决的问题,以提高特拉荣大学的软技能整合。因此,本文提出了在专业知识教学中提高软技能整合质量的几种可行的解决方案。

APPLYING TIME MANAGEMENT SKILL IN FULFILLING ASSIGNMENTS OF RESEARCH METHODOLOGY SUBJECT: A CASE STUDY OF SENIOR STUDENTS AT SCHOOL OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES – TRA VINH UNIVERSITY 运用时间管理技巧完成研究方法论课题作业:以越文大学外国语学院高年级学生为例

Time management is one of the keys leading us to succeed in work and study. Realizing that, this research studies the relationship between time management and Research Methodology subject, especially in fulfilling assignments of this subject. The participants of this study are 60 senior students studying English major at Tra Vinh University. They completed the questionnaires that include questions related to students’ perspectives on time management and the factors that influence the fulfillment of this subject assignments, especially the time. Regarding the findings, among elements, the role, as well as the relationship of time management to fulfilling assignments of Research Methodology subject, was found. Most of the participants agreed that time management plays an essential role. Besides, the factors affecting students in managing time to fulfill the assignments of Research Methodology subject were explored. From that, the research proposes some suggestions which help students to improve their time management skills to succeed in this subject.

Nowadays, along with the knowledge and professional skills, soft skills are also considered as a compulsory requirement for students before graduating. Besides the soft skills  subjects teaching, the integration of soft skills in professional teaching will help students to acquire the necessary soft skills which appropriate to the fields being trained. In this article, we introduce some soft skills training methods that are applied in teaching Information Systems Analysis and Design subject in CDIO-based training programs (Conceive - Design - Implement - Operate) for Information Technology students. The training of soft skills in professional teaching will help students quickly adapt to the requirements of future careers.

The article is based on UNESCO’s educational classification framework and CDIO teaching model (proposed by MIT and some Nordic universities) to study theoretically demands for working skills at multinational corporate and technology environments, and at the same time, the set of soft skills that need to be equipped by learners before joining the working life in the industrial age 4.0 is synthesized based on the experts’ assessment and analysis. Since then, the integration of soft skills training in university teaching process has been developed, as well as proposed solutions for applying this integrated method.
本文以联合国教科文组织的教育分类框架和CDIO教学模式(由MIT和一些北欧大学提出)为基础,从理论上研究跨国公司和技术环境对工作技能的需求,同时在专家的评估和分析的基础上,综合了工业4.0时代学习者在加入工作生活之前需要具备的一套软技能。从那时起,软技能训练在大学教学过程中的整合被发展起来,并提出了应用这种整合方法的解决方案。

Preparing soft skills for students has been being a matter of great concern to both society and the education industry. Soft skills are an essential factor for the success and happiness of each individual. Many decades ago,  the weakness of soft skills of Vietnamese students have been warned by educational organizations, businesses and domestic and foreign experts. Although knowledge that is considered as a necessary condition during the learning process; it is still not a sufficient condition for students who want to get a desired job. Nowadays, softskills training activities are quite popular in almost universities and it is one of requirements for student’s  graduation. However, these training activities are different in each university. In this study, from the practical experience in training soft skills of other universities, the authors recommend some basic solutions for  integrating soft skills into main subjects in the specialized knowledge teaching process.
培养学生的软技能一直是社会和教育行业非常关注的问题。软技能是每个人成功和幸福的重要因素。早在几十年前,越南学生软技能的弱点就被教育机构、企业和国内外专家警告过。虽然被认为是学习过程中必要条件的知识;对于想要找到理想工作的学生来说,这仍然不是一个充分条件。如今,软技能培训活动在几乎所有的大学都很流行,也是学生毕业的要求之一。然而,这些培训活动在每个大学都是不同的。本研究结合其他高校培养软技能的实践经验,提出了在专业知识教学过程中将软技能融入主科的基本解决方案。

The study was conducted to explore the interest levels and the understanding of Khmer students at Tra Vinh University (The case of School of Southern Khmer Language, Culture and Arts). The survey results on 114   first-year to fourth-year students of the majors: Cultural Vietnamese Ethnic Minorities, Khmer language, Pedagogy of Southern Literature show that 70% of students are interested in critical thinking. Students realize that this is the necessary thinking for the learners themselves when there are 32.46% totally agree and 54.39% agree to develop critical thinking skills. Based on the results, we initially try to find out the causes and propose the  solutions to develop critical thinking skills for students.
本研究旨在探讨特荣大学高棉学生的兴趣水平和对高棉语的理解(以南高棉语言、文化和艺术学院为例)。对越南少数民族文化、高棉语、南方文学教育学等专业114名一至四年级学生的调查结果显示,70%的学生对批判性思维感兴趣。32.46%的学生完全同意,54.39%的学生同意培养批判性思维技能,学生意识到这是学习者自己的必要思维。根据调查结果,我们首先试图找出原因,并提出解决方案,以培养学生的批判性思维能力。
