In accordance with the objective outlined in the 2016 Paris Agreement, there is a requirement to lower carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gas emissions by a quarter by the year 2030. Climate policy packages that induce dramatic changes in production and consumption patterns will be required to achieve this. Despite the fact that many developed countries are proclaiming emission neutrality objectives by 2030, present practices are incompatible with these long-term ambitions. As a result, significantly stronger policy action is required. As we approach 2021, Malaysia has less than a decade to fulfill the global goal of halving carbon dioxide emissions by 2030. In the worldwide Climate Change Performance Index, Malaysia is near the bottom. To advance the sustainability objectives and address climate change concerns, Malaysia is contemplating the implementation of a carbon tax for upcoming investments. These adjustments, on the other hand, are dependent on legislators' knowledge and public demand. Hence, this study looks at how carbon tax policies were implemented in both successful and unsuccessful countries. The purpose of the study is to introduce the carbon tax policy in Malaysia. This study used secondary data to collect information on looking at the challenges and benefits of implementing a carbon tax. The finding from this study concludes that establishing a carbon tax policy has more economic and environmental benefits if the country has well-designed carbon pricing that influences consumer, business, and investor behavior while also stimulating technological innovation and earning revenue. The study recommends the government how to implement a carbon price policy framework while revising the Environmental Protection Act.

As a predictor of the customer's actual action, the intention to stay at a hotel can be used to determine whether the customer will stay there. This study aims to analyze the content of journal articles discussing customers' intention to stay in a hotel. This study analyzed 347 articles in the Scopus database using bibliometric methods and VOSviewer software, including their annual frequency, journals, institutions, co-citations, co-occurrence of keywords, and research frontiers. The results show that intention is an essential predictor of behavioral research and closely related service quality, perception, satisfaction, and trust. In addition, associated theories are constantly breaking through, resulting in innovation. From the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) to the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), then the Model of Goal-directed Behavior (MGB) has been developed. Based on MGB, the latest Theory of Repurchase Decision-making (TRD) was proposed within the context of the intention to stay at a hotel. Finally, the research objects are evolving from traditional hotels to green and environmentally friendly hotels, as well as the latest medical hotels. The findings provide clues for further research in this field.

The present research endeavours to investigate the interconnection among human capital, income inequality, renewable energy consumption, economic growth, and pollution. The ultimate objective is to identify effective policy approaches by uncovering empirical findings. This study employs the innovative approach of dynamic ordinary least square (DOLS) to examine data spanning from 1980 to 2018. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the DOLS estimation, we utilise the fully modified ordinary least square (FMOLS) and canonical correlation regression (CCR) techniques. In order to comprehensively investigate the association between the chosen variables, a paired Granger causality analysis was employed. Findings of this study show that using renewable energy enhances Malaysia's environmental quality, while economic growth, income inequality, and human capital all cause environmental deterioration. Therefore, it is possible that Malaysia could achieve its goal of reducing CO2 emissions and meeting its obligations under the Paris Agreement if it were to successfully adopt policy initiatives to develop human capital, increase the use of renewable energy sources, achieve a low-carbon economy, and reduce the income disparity. The research presents several new findings. The authors show that economic growth is one of the drivers of renewable energy use because it provides inputs for the development of renewable energy technology and infrastructure. But if there is pollution as a result of rapid economic growth, it will also negatively impact worker productivity. As a result, the poor get poorer, and the income inequality gap widens. This will obstruct both economic advancement and government efforts to promote the creation of renewable energy sources.

Ecotourism conserves the natural environment and raises the community’s living standards. The socio-economic impacts, however, may vary due to different economic statuses among the local community groups. Hence this study examines the socio-economic impacts of ecotourism in Taman Negara Pahang on the locals and indigenous people with different incomes, education, and occupations. This qualitative research employed semi-structured interviews to understand better the socioeconomic benefits and challenges of tourism development in the national park. It was found that the locals were highly dependent on tourism economic activities, and their living standards improved. Nevertheless, most indigenous people still lived in poverty because they were incompetent with limited communication skills and hospitality knowledge. Besides, tourism seasonality has caused irregular business revenue, low return on investment, and underutilisation of facilities in the off-peak season. Conversely, the tourism operators and locals may gain maximum business revenue and additional income in the peak season. This paper draws the attention of government agencies and local community groups to the importance of educational attainment and appropriate capacity-building programs based on different needs to ensure an equitable distribution of ecotourism socio-economic benefits. Their involvement in such events may also help to overcome the challenges of tourism seasonality through proper planning and implementation in the national park.

The state of Kedah has many natural areas that have the potential to become tourist areas. Although there are many beautiful and fascinating areas, not much research has been done to popularize them, causing them to be less well-known and rarely visited by tourists, especially outside of Kedah. This study aims to identify the potential of agrotourism and explore the natural beauty of Tasik Gubir (Lake Gubir). This study used quantitative and qualitative methods. Data were obtained through questionnaires that were randomly distributed to 100 tourists who visited Tasik Gubir from 1 to 30 July 2022, as well as interviews with the tourists. This study revealed Tasik Gubir has two main attractions, namely freshwater fishing activities and food. In terms of freshwater fishing, there are two categories of participants. First, those who have a license and fish commercially. Next, tourists and locals who come to fish for leisure. Fishing activity is the main attraction for anglers because of the large number of fish due to the unpolluted lake. Tasik Gubir is not only famous for its natural beauty but has become a new attraction for tourists who enjoy freshwater fish dishes. Several stalls prepare fresh dishes from Tasik Gubir that are served hot with a variety of local cuisine. Therefore, it is suggested that the state government take the initiative to maintain the ecosystem and highlight more local activities and food around Tasik Gubir. This study contributes to increasing tourism activities in Kedah and further helps the local community, namely Sik, to generate their economy.

Environmental concerns have steadily gained attention as the economy has grown more rapidly. This ultimately impedes the growth of a high-quality economy. Several factors, namely forested area, agricultural land, energy consumption and foreign direct investment, have contributed significantly to economic expansion while simultaneously deteriorating the environment in the short and long run. Hence, this study empirically examines the effect of forested area, agricultural land, energy consumption and foreign direct investment on CO2 emissions in the case of Indonesia from 1990 to 2020 by employing the autoregressive distributed lags (ARDL) approach. The results indicate that forested area negatively and significantly impacts CO2 emissions in the short and long run. However, agricultural land, energy consumption and foreign direct investment positively influence CO2 emissions in the long run. Moreover, agricultural land and foreign direct investment demonstrate a negative relationship with CO2 emissions, whereas energy consumption positively affects CO2 emissions in the short run. Thus, the results are insightful for policymakers to develop efficient strategies to reduce carbon emissions and eradicate environmental deterioration in Indonesia.

However, agricultural land, energy consumption and foreign direct investment positively influence CO2 emissions in the long run. Moreover, agricultural land and foreign direct investment demonstrate a negative relationship with CO2 emissions, whereas energy consumption positively affects CO2 emissions in the short run. Thus, the results are insightful for policymakers to develop efficient strategies to reduce carbon emissions and eradicate environmental deterioration in Indonesia.","PeriodicalId":235421,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism, Hospitality and Environment Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120831144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
