We present our experimental investigations of the temporal evolution of plasmas produced by high power laser irradiation of various types of target materials. We obtained and analysed “high-quality” time-resolved streak-camera interferometric data on the evolution of the plasma electronic profile, which can directly be compared to analytical models and numerical simulations. For aluminium targets, the agreement with 1D simulations performed with the hydrocode MULTI is excellent, at least for large times (t ≥ 400 ps).

The results of experimental study of spectral, power and field characteristics of spiral resonators with whispering gallery-like modes (WGM) in the millimeter wave band by means of the computerized measuring stand are presented. Design of tunable filters and systems with directional radiation on the base of such resonators is discussed.

The spectral-luminescent properties of dipyrrolylmethene derivatives in different solutions and solid silicate matrices doped with these compounds were measured, and their photophysical (γfl, krad, τfl, γphos, τphos), lasing (efficiency, λlas), photochemical (ϕph355,532), limiting (CL) characteristics were determined. The possibilities of applications are discussed.

The phenomenon of spatial diffusion of stored energy between excited and not excited ions has been experimentally studied under conditions of high concentration of dopant and high pump gradient. Direct measurements of the diffusion coefficient as well as lifetime of the excited state in laser crystal Yb3+(21 at.%):Gd3Ga5O12 have been conducted by the method of tunable transient gratings.

New laser-optical technology based on photodissosiation of oxyhemoglobin and carboxyhemoglobin in vivo for local tissue oxygenation and increasing the efficiency of elimination of carbon monoxide poisoning effect is proposed. The results of both numerical simulations of “laser-tissue” interaction in terms of maximal effect on blood oxyhemoglobin and carboxyhemoglobin in cutaneous blood vessels and experimental investigations the efficiency of their photodissosiation are presented. It is shown that despite of similarity and overlapping of carboxyhemoglobin and oxyhemoglobin action spectrum significant difference on quantum yields of photodissociation makes possible to develop a novel optical method of elimination of carbon monoxide poisoning effect.

Compact fiber optical and thermal sensor for non invasive measurement of blood biochemistry including glucose, hemoglobin and it's derivatives concentrations is developed as a prototype of the point-of-care diagnostic devices for cardiologic, tumour and diabetic patients. Integrated platform for data acquisition, data processing and communication to remote networks has been developed on the pocket PC. Method of non-invasive monitoring of human blood biochemistry based on spatially localized NIR diffuse scattering spectroscopy and metabolic heat measurements has been developed. Multivariate statistical analysis and cluster analysis was applied to convert sensor pickup signals into physicochemical variables.

We study the dynamical properties of the RZ-DPSK encoded sequences of bits, focusing on the instabilities in the train leading to the bit stream corruption. The problem is studied within the framework of the complex Toda chain model for optical solitons. We show how the bit composition of the pattern affects the initial stage of the train dynamics and explain the general mechanisms of the appearance of unstable collective soliton modes. Then we discuss the nonlinear regime using the asymptotic properties of the pulse stream at large propagation distances and analyze the dynamical behavior of the train elucidating different scenarios for the pattern instabilities.

We present a generalized Snell's law that governs grey soliton refraction at the interface separating two defocusing Kerr media. The analysis, based on the Helmholtz theory, is valid for arbitrary angles of incidence and reveals that grey solitons undergo either external or internal refraction depending on the soliton contrast parameter.

Considered adaptive optical system is intended for correction of laser wavefornt aberrations, having characteristic frequency 50–70 Hz. The system consists of the following basic elements: stacked-actuators adaptive mirror, fast Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor and a control system which includes computer under OS Windows and the fast control unit for adaptive mirror. The results of modeling of the correction process are presented and the interrelation between frequency of samples and accuracy of correction is revealed. Recommendations about future improvement of the system work are given.
