. This work provides a numerical solution to the Malthusian model, considering the initial condition as a fuzzy value. The numerical solution is provided from Euler’s method, in which the operations built into the method are adapted to fuzzy numbers. This numerical solution is compatible with the analytical solution obtained from the generalized Hukuhara derivative. An example is presented to illustrate the methodology.

. In this work, two inverse problems related to pollutant dispersion in a river considering the advection-dispersion-reaction equation are studied along with a Neural Network approach. The first inverse problem concerns the estimation of the reaction parameter in an homogeneous equation, and the second one concerns the estimation of source pollution location in the non-homogeneous case. Both inverse problems are solved by two multiplayer perceptron networks: the usual Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and the Physics-Informed Neural Network (PINN), which is a special type of neural network that includes the physical laws that describes the phenomena in its formulation . Numerical experiments related to both inverse problems with ANN and with PINN are presented, demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed approach.

. Data assimilation (DA) is an essential process to identify the best initial conditional by combining data from an observation system with a previous prediction from a numerical simulation of a given dynamical system. This paper describes the effort to develop a framework for testing different methods applied to two dynamical systems. The framework was implemented using the Google CoLab platform, and Octave free mathematical software. The dynamic systems used for testing is the Lorenz system under the chaotic regime, and 2D shallow water — for ocean circulation modeling.

. This work develops the Multiscale Hybrid-Hybrid Mixed method - MH 2 M. This is a finite element method that efficiently solves elliptic partial differential equations with multiscale heterogeneous coefficients. The starting point is the Three-field domain decomposition formulation, which searches a function, defined within each subdomain, and two Lagrange multipliers: the flow and trace of the function posed on interfaces. This setting allows different discretizations in each subdomain, as well as the use of different numerical methods to solve local problems. After the decomposition of functional spaces and two static condensations, the MH 2 M method arises by solving independent local Neumann problems in parallel. It results that the method solves an elliptic global problem posed at interfaces instead of the more complicated three-field formulation. In addition to the lower computational cost, the use of iterative methods such as the conjugate gradient is possible. A proper compatibility condition enables a discretization using non-matching grids, preserving stability. Finally, we establish error estimates for a pair of compatible finite element spaces.
