With the convenience of maneuvering and taking off easily, quadrotors are becoming more and more popular in military as well as civilian applications recently. The quadrotor is an under-actuated system. Moreover, in the presence of the external disturbance and uncertainties, it’s even more difficult to control. Therefore, the study of flight control algorithms for the quadrotor is absolutely necessary and that is also the main purpose of this study. First, the trajectory tracking problem without disturbance and uncertainties is solved by a backstepping controller (BSC). Then, an adaptive backstepping sliding mode controller (ABSMC) is investigated to solve the influence of external disturbance. Next, a controller was developed from the ABSMC controller to ensure that the tracking errors converge to zero while the coefficients of air resistance are unknown. In addition, all control algorithms are analyzed for stability. Finally, several simulations are performed to verify as well as compare with the studied control algorithms.

This paper aims to develop a novel continuous exact differentiator to determine the first-order derivative of a given signal in case of unknown upper-bounded second-order derivative with a simple tuning process. In addition, an improved convergence time and estimation accuracy can be successfully attained by employing innovative differentiator-generating functions. Furthermore, the stability of the proposed differentiator is theoretically verified through the Lyapunov theory. Finally, several numerical simulations are conducted to demonstrate the advantage of the suggested approach over existing reference methods in the literature.

This paper presents a simple model predictive current control (MPCC) method to improve current performance and achieve the fixed switching frequency for the four-leg voltage source inverter (VSI) fed two-phase loads. In the proposed method, a desired voltage vector is firstly introduced to avoid the current prediction calculations. Then, three voltage vectors, which are selected by the location of the desired voltage vector, are applied during one sampling period with a predetermined switching sequence to drive the inverter. This achieves the fixed switching frequency and significantly reduces the current harmonics. Simulation results are given to validate the effectiveness of the proposed MPCC method.

Due to the proportion of solar power generation in the power grid gradual increasing, weather forecasting plays an important role in the operation of power grid. In the case of a solar eclipse, the solar power generation will be influenced severely. In order to maintain grid stability, grid operations can precisely calculate the solar shading situation by the location and time of the solar eclipse, and then prepare in advance to reduce the impact of grid ramping event. The purpose of this paper is to predict the movement path of cloud blocks and estimate the solar shading by cloud blocks, and to estimate the variation of solar irradiance through Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network in order to provide dispatchers or Energy Management System (EMS) to effectively respond to the impact of cloud blocks on the power grid in advance.

This paper proposes an FPGA-based binarized convolutional neural network (H-BNN) for cloud detection on a satellite payload. By utilizing 1-bitwise weights and activations, the proposed approach reduces computational complexity and memory requirements, making it an efficient solution for classifying cloud regions in near-infrared images captured by satellite camera sensors. The proposed H-BNN model and hardware implementation approach are more suitable for satellite (a) payload hardware computing and address the challenges posed by traditional Convolution Neural Network models with full precision configuration., and achieved an accuracy of over 90% and 22 Frames Per Second(FPS) on FPGA.

This paper studies performance of two radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting (EH) aided multi-hop mobile relaying models. In the first one, named MHM2M-DT, a mobile source attempts to send its data to a mobile destination with help of intermediate mobile relays. In MHM2M-DT, the data transmission at each hop is direct transmission. In the second one, named MHM2M-CC, cooperative communication is used at each hop to obtain higher spatial diversity. All the transmitters in our schemes have to harvest the RF energy from a power station, and use this energy to transmit the source data. We evaluate performance of MHM2M-DT and MHM2M-CC over double Rayleigh fading channels, in terms of end-to-end (e2e) outage probability (OP) and throughput (TP). Finally, Monte Carlo simulations are realized to validate the analysis as well as to compare the OP and TP performance of MHM2M-DT and MHM2M-CC.

Monitoring the status of electric machines is an essential performance element for an industry’s efforts to save energy. In this paper present energy saving and the design of an induction machine control system are examined. Based on an experimental case study involving a Motor Current Signal Analysis (MCSA) technique challenge for an audition. Wavelet Decomposition (WD) categorization is a part of the signal processing and it transfers data faults to Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) operations based on criteria standards. The results show that harmonic distortion and peak densities of current signal spectra can be detected by fault analysis and design protection systems. This study can be used in energy conservation during manufacturing and has applications for electrical machine protection systems.

Metagenomic assembly is a crucial step in analyzing pipelines of microbial communities. It allows to reconstruct contiguous consensus sequences (contigs) from mixed reads of multiple species. Meta-IDBA is one of the de novo assemblers which applies the de Bruijn graph algorithm to assemble metagenomic data without reference genomes. However, errors occurring after the graph creation are not well corrected, and thus result to low accuracy of the approach. This study proposes an improved method that tackles the problem using an effective error removal technique. Experimental results show that the improved algorithm outperforms original Meta-IDBA assembler on simulated and real data.

Falls are a significant health concern for older adults and people with disabilities. It can result in serious injuries such as hip fractures, head trauma, and even death. Therefore, a fall detection system is essential for preventing and mitigating the abovementioned negative consequences. In this study, we propose a fall detection system with a low-cost camera that can run in real-time and obtain persuading accuracy. Concretely, our proposed system first detects and tracks entities using the Yolo-V4-tiny model and SORT algorithm, respectively. Subsequently, the MediaPipe framework is utilized to extract the skeletons of each entity for physical characteristics calculations. Last but not least, the provided skeletons per frame with their corresponding physical characteristics serve as inputs of the Transformer to release detection results. The experimental result with reliable accuracy suggests that our study has the potential for practical applications. The demo video can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyFUT_SBrfU.

The performance of long-range (LoRa) networks is investigated in the present paper. Particularly, we study and optimize the performance of the potential rate and average lifetime of an end device (ED). To be more precise, we take into account all operation states of an ED. Additionally, tools from stochastic geometry (SG) are employed to model the positions of the EDs. We then study the performance of the potential rate. Next, a pair of spreading factor (SF) and current transmission is selected to maximize the potential rate and average lifetime of the end devices. Numerical results show that there always exists a pair of SF and current transmissions that maximize the performance of the potential rate. Furthermore, the lifetime of the end devices is always above 4.5 years under the current setup and can be lasted up to a decade if the report frequency reduces to once per day.
