Line-commutated converters (LCCs) and voltage-source converters (VSCs) are widely deployed in HVDC systems. Average-value models (AVMs) of such converters have proven to be numerically efficient for real-time/offline simulation studies where detailed switching models are computationally expensive. However, with a non-iterative solution, the conventional so-called indirectly-interfaced AVMs (IDI-AVMs) may lead to inaccurate or unstable results at large simulation time steps due to the one-time-step delay between the AVM input values and the interfacing variables. In this paper, the AVMs of LCCs and VSCs are directly interfaced with the external system to eliminate the one-time-step interfacing delay. The new directly-interfaced AVMs (DI-AVMs) of LCCs and VSCs are formulated in nodal form, and their resultant matrices are merged into the external system nodal equations. The effectiveness of the presented method is investigated on a hybrid LCC-VSC HVDC system in PSCAD/EMTDC. It is verified that the proposed DI-AVMs are numerically superior and more accurate than the conventional IDI-AVMs and allow simulations with much larger time-step sizes.

Quality has been one of the most important factors in the development of any product since the very beginning of the manufacturing industry. Industry 4.0 affected all aspects of the industry, including quality, which resulted in the creation of Quality 4.0. One of the most used technologies for achieving Quality 4.0 is artificial intelligence (AI), which enables more efficient and accurate inspection of products. To facilitate research and teaching in this area, a modular testing system based on computer vision and edge computing was developed. The system is developed according to the currently most frequent use cases, and enables faster and more efficient development, deployment, and testing of AI algorithms.

The subject of this article is an electronic device based on IoT technology, for the control of relative humidity in a room. The IoT-based electronic device is part of a developed electronic system with implemented algorithms and criteria for providing comfortable conditions in a room. A mobile application has been developed through which remote control of relative humidity is carried out. Research has been done with a dehumidifier, which gives us reason to say that the correct choice of the dehumidifier in relation to the volume of a given room is essential. The obtained results show that the value of the relative humidity in the most severe mode "Long absence" can be reduced to the required values, according to the proposed criteria, within a twenty-four hours period of time.

In this paper a voltage-dip based readout interface of passive LC sensors is presented. Our work includes improvements of the original parallel tuned Colpitts voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) topology to meet requirements for an interface with passive LC sensors in GHz-range. Our redesign provides stable amplitude of output oscillations independent of the input tune voltage, multichannel operation, and linear range of output frequency (1.5 GHz-1.8 GHz) versus input tune voltage (0 V-15 V). The proposed VCO was implemented as a part of the voltage-dip based readout interface of resonant frequency estimation of passive LC sensors. Conducted analysis showed that the presented readout topology could operate with coupling factors greater than 0.05, and that readout is independent to changes of coupling factor. Additional tests revealed that the proposed topology is sensitive to changes of the resonant frequency greater than 0.187%.

Historically, and especially in recent years, there has been a significant need in the industry for powerful actuators in a smaller size, with cost efficiency also being an important factor. Brushless DC motor (BLDC), with higher efficiency than an induction motor, lesser need for maintenance compared to a DC motor, and lower price than an equivalent synchronous motor, has become a particularly popular choice. In the industry the BLDC is very often used as a servo motor for the control of the rotor position angle. In this paper a system for position control of a BLDC, using field oriented control (FOC) is presented. Firstly, the normalized d-q model of the motor and the parameters of the controllers in the system are determined, after which the control system is modelled using MATLAB/Simulink, and the torque and position angle responses are analyzed.

Renewable energy sources play an important role due to the increasing economic, social, and environmental issues caused by the use of fossil fuels. In this work, wind power can be considered as an effective renewable energy resource. The main objective of this research is to design a micro-scale Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT) that may be mounted on rooftops or moving vehicles. The proposed wind turbine model was designed using Q blade software. The five-blade wind turbine was used for the design due to the increased efficiency, especially under low wind speed conditions. Then the wind turbine was validated under varied wind speed conditions. The derived optimum parameters for the five-blade wind turbine were 0.39 m blade length, 0.04 m hub radius, and 6 tip-speed ratio. The wind turbine has a 65W power output, with 0.45 of power coefficient at 6 m/s, wind speed.

The protection and preservation of the privacy of personal data are one of the main requirements when it comes to an application dealing with the processing of such data. It is no different when it comes to information systems that store and process data about students in higher education systems. The public presentation of such data represents a serious threat to the safety of students as well as their status within the higher education system. For this reason, it is necessary to use the possibility of advanced technologies in order to raise data security to the highest level. One such technology that is able to provide transparency, security and data protection at a high level is blockchain technology. In this work, the Hyperledger Fabric distributed ledger private blockchain network was analyzed and its usability in terms of user rights management in higher education system was evaluated. Experimental analysis showed that such a platform has the ability to take advantage of private blockchain technologies in terms of user rights management and to provide security, flexibility and scalability of the system.

The enhanced 5G network capabilities for mission-critical communications (MCC) can be utilized by first responders in different use cases, both inland and for maritime safety purposes, including the support for Search and Rescue (SAR) missions. Fast and secure information exchange between control room dispatchers and on-site assets is of core importance for an efficient and timely response. 5G network slicing, enhanced data rates, low latency services, machine-type, and sidelink communications, enable successful management in a crisis environment through coordination of the latest generation of surveillance devices, unmanned vehicles (aerial and surface), various sensors, and actuators, virtual reality services, etc. This paper first provides a brief overview of the most important 5G capabilities and services that improve MCC. Then, experiences collected in two pilots realized in the frame of H2020 project RESPOND-A, concerning 5G support for MCC in earthquake and forest fire scenarios, as well as the planned pilot in maritime SAR operation, are presented.

Paper covers image classification using the Keras API in TensorFlow. The dataset used is a set of labelled images consisting of characters from the Pokémon media franchise. In order to artificially generate additional data, the process of data augmentation has been applied on the initial dataset to reduce overfitting. A comparison between DenseNet-121, DenseNet-169 and DenseNet-201 has been made to observe which of the models scores a greater accuracy. A Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) has been set up to work with TensorFlow in order to efficiently train the model.
