Epilepsy is a brain disorder characterized by a tendency to induce a continuous epileptic recurrence and neurobiological, cognitive, psychological, as well as social consequences. Epilepsy seizures are a series of signs and/or symptoms caused by abnormal neuronal activities in the brain. The purpose of this study was to prove the benefits of applying self- and family-oriented educational management to clinical outcomes, self-management, and impact of epilepsy on family, patient’s quality of life, family support, and the role of doctors and family of the epilepsy patient. This is an experimental research using two groups pre and posttest design. The subjects were 80 epilepsy patients ranging from 18 to 70 years of age. All subjects had never had any epilepsy surgery. The subjects were randomly assigned to treatment and control groups; 40 subjects in the treatment group received treatment and self- as well as family-oriented education while the other 40 subjects in the control group received treatment only. Family-oriented education was conducted using written materials on pathophysiology and epilepsy management, psychological effects of epilepsy, and information about the epilepsy community. All of the subjects answered the questionnaires prior to and 3 months after treatment. The questionnaires include information on seizure frequency and seizure-free status, medication adherence, self-management, epilepsy impact on patient and family, and quality of life. The results show that self- and family-oriented education can improve medication adherence, self-management, and family roles. Family-oriented education reduces the frequency of seizures as well as the impact of epilepsy on patients and families. It was concluded that self- and family-oriented education had a positive effect on medical management, clinical outcomes, self-management, and the quality of life of patients with epilepsy.

The revitalization of professional competencies aimed to increase the number and quality of the light vehicle engineering (TKR) teachers’ skills. The background of this study was the low absorption of human resources from the vocational school in the business world and industrial world (DU/DI), the lack of teacher expertise in teaching factory, and the gap between education and industrial demands. This study aimed to produce a revitalization model of professional competence based on industry apprenticeship that is ideal and effective for improving the competence of TKR productive teachers. This research employed Reseach and Development (R & D) Methods. The subject of this research was TKR Teachers in Semarang Municipality. The results of the preliminary study were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive technique. The development results, the model of readability tests, and the model tools were tested through expert judgment. The feasibility of the model was tested through forum group discussion (FGD) and evaluation, i.e. the industry effectiveness test or the professional certification body (LSP). The results of the research show the following. First, the competence of TKR productive teachers in the form of general competence is 31 - 71% and the core competency is 29 - 69% of the whole competencies that should be mastered by the teachers. Based on the empiric data, the teachers were then assigned to join an industry apprenticeship. After the industry apprentices, the teacher’s competence tests either through the industry test or the LSP test recommended that they were competent. It can be concluded that the competency revitalization model of industry-based professionals for vocational school teachers of the light vehicle engineering expertise is effective to improve the competence of the productive teachers' skills.

Aesthetic education is an aspect of art education in schools whose implementation is very diverse. The diversity in the implementation is thought to be due to differences in the teacher’s ideology on aesthetic education. The teacher's perception of aesthetic education must be influenced by the ideology he/she embraces. Therefore, field research is needed to provide an explanation of the teacher’s ideology and the implementation of aesthetic education at school. Problems to be solved through this research were (1) how is the ideology and understanding of teacher’s art about aesthetic education and (2) how is the implementation of aesthetic education at school. This research utilized a qualitative approach with cultural ecology model. Data were collected by observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The target of this research was art and culture teachers of Junior High School in Semarang. The results showed that in carrying out the learning of art and culture all teachers refer to the school-based (KTSP) curriculum and the 2013 Curriculum. Almost all art and cultural teachers carry out the learning process in accordance with the guidelines of the curriculum although they still adjust to school conditions. According to the art and culture teachers, in fact, the substance of the two curricula is not very much different; both are based on students and learning strategies using a scientific approach. In addition to providing an aesthetic experience to students, art education is also very appropriate as a means of character education for the nation.
