The Western Balkans socio-political discourse is heavily focused on the exclusive and radical ethnic nationalism and ideology. In this regard, the media and the political elites, through their focus on symbols, myths, ethnicity, tradition, history, language and culture play an important role in shaping the public opinion. Consequently, the daily newspapers in reporting the views of the political elites, within linguistic, discursive, socio-political and ideological contexts, can influence the masses who usually do not analyze the news critically. The paper also seeks to examine and interpret differences in language use by selected Western Balkans political leaders and the way their language choice influenced public opinion. Political, nationalist and ideological discourses promoted by the political elites are very specific and the journalists should report such discourses objectively. Therefore, it is significant to compare and contrast the role played by the media and the political elites in their linguistic, discursive and socio-linguistic choices in the text that may carry ethnic nationalist and ideological meanings. The theoretical and conceptual framework of the paper was based on Fowler’s (1989; 2003; 2010) works: “ Language and Power”, “Analyzing Discourse” and “ The Critical Study of Language”. In order to test research objectives on the coding and analyzing ethnic nationalism and ideology in the Western Balkans newspapers, the research employed critical discourse analysis for N=534 randomly selected news from the following four newspapers: Dnevni avaz (Bosnia and Herzegovina), “ Vecernji list” (Croatia), “ Vecernje novosti” (Serbia), “ Vijesti” (Montenegro), limited to a period between 2016 and 2018.

From the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the fifth century CE, until the establishment of the first truly supranational European institutions after the Second World War, many attempts were made to unify and bring peace to Europe. While the first attempts were for hegemonic unification, from the fourteenth century on, several plans were put forth for a civil unification. Each of these plans proposed specific institutions which were to bring together the sovereigns and (later) the nations of Europe for a peaceful coexistence. This study describes these numerous proposals, identifying the values and goals underlying the institutional structures each proposal set up. We argue that institutional structures have normative content, in that they embody specific ideologies of the European integration. Our analysis shows that the various proposals embody three distinct ideologies: integration through, and for the purpose of enhancing national sovereignty, integration through federation which limits national sovereignty, and integration through arrangements for free commerce that bypasses national sovereignty.

This paper deals with the public perceptions of the national identity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has been in flux throughout history. Hence, the common national identity was replaced by exclusive ethnic national identities and ideologies of Bosnians, Serbs, and Croats. In particular, the post-war period, marked by unrest and ethnic tension as well as the socio-political and economic challenges, contributed to exclusive ethnic national identification. The research examined the level and importance of national identity to Bosnians, Serbs and Croats and the way they express their national identity through loyalty to the country and national identity markers while recognizing current socio-political and economic challenges. The research indicated that the main ethnic groups maintain their radical and exclusive ethnic national identities, which significantly affected state functioning, stability, security and prosperity of the country. Therefore, the Bosnian society should put emphasis on diversity, dialogue and trust, whereby exclusive ethnic national identities of Bosnians, Serbs and Croats are countered and balanced by civic, nation-state and institution-based identity models.

The aftermath of the Libyan conflict and the country instability continues due to the internal political division echo of the Arab Spring and the overall fragile regional context strongly influenced by external powers seeking to impact on the direction the country takes socio-economically and politically. In post-Qaddafi Libya the long transition to sustainable institutions and peace remains fragile. The tensions between political parties, armed groups and non-state security actors with different ideological preferences resulted in the full-scale civil war that broke out in the mid-2014. The large arsenal inherited from Qaddafi regime fell under the armed groups and non-state security actors control increasing the already vast proliferation of weapons escalating political tensions and polarization between religious and secular actors. This research aims to examine the transition process in the post-conflict Libya assessing the political developments within the broader aspects of regional peace, stability and security and in reverse how the political instability in Libya affects broader regional security, the growth of violent extremism and uncontrolled acute forced migrations through Libya’s porous border. Libya is a strategic partner and an international player for the EU engaged with the emerging power in the Mediterranean region and the Middle East. The EU interest focuses - beside foster a sustainable economic system – on preserve peace and prevent conflict strengthening its relations with its neighboring countries to maintain security in the region. To reach national, regional and international security is necessary to recognize security as a political matter to be reflected in a long-term process part of the governance reform and economic development through a coherent and effective inter-policy approach.

International law serves to increase international trade, investment and promote prosperity. These laws and mechanisms fall into two main categories, the private law of international trade and international public law, albeit there is a significant overlap between the categories. The law on private trade deals with the rights and obligations of international traders and investors facing each other. Here, there is a need for mechanisms to resolve the conflicts of laws between persons from different legal systems. There is also a value in promoting harmonization initiatives to reduce trade transaction costs between people from different legal cultures. Where there is a law on international trade, there is a need to develop an appropriate compromise between the sovereign rights of the nation states and the desire for cooperative behavior between them. Here, there is a special need to identify processes and mechanisms to promote the normative effect of international rules, given the lack of any form of coercion over national states. Insufficient and inefficient laws and mechanisms will be a disincentive to trade and productive investment.

Although sociology is a modern discipline, sociologists in Bosnia and Herzegovina must consider distant past and present to tackle the questions of identity, nationality, ethnicity, language and religion. Sociological prominence had gained its focus in post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina because of conflict resolution, peace building and overall social transformations and emerging challenges and issues. Such transformation of post-war Bosnian society coupled with a socio-political and economic crisis had opened the door for sociological and anthropological studies and research. Post-war society that eventually aims at a just peace, as Bosnia and Herzegovina where genocide had taken place, cannot without addressing sociological dimensions of war, justice, law and morality. Sociology as a discipline, within the institutional context, has also undergone significant changes and transformations. Using a survey approach, this paper aims to analyze why sociology is significant discipline in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Indeed, it is significant to analyze sociological and institutional transformations and their influence on the creation of new social models related to identity, nationality, religion, language, ethnicity, conflict resolution, war and justice.

Since the opening reforms of 1978, China has made a remarkable and outstanding advance in all the fields of life. Forty years ago China's leaders after the death of Mao Zedong found the courage and the strength to put no limits to their country in order to find the proper place in the international arena. China was not going to be anymore a taboo to the world. My paper is focused on a comparative study, for understanding better the differences and the common things between Western globalization and the new China's initiative. One of the main question I have raised in compiling this paper is that if one of the two initiatives of strategies will rule the world or will they be cooperating together? This paper will basically rely in politics, economics, social and diplomacy fields. These four topics are in my opinion the key to understand China's success within the country and abroad and the true challenge of the Western globalization. The XXI century is said that it will be the Chinese century in every aspect. But to prove this, there are required a lot of efforts and above all a lot of good understanding if China will take on the world, not forcefully but peacefully.

The aim of this report was to analyse positive and negative aspects of online administration of longitudinal well-being survey and to provide suggestions and guidelines for future research. The aim of CRO-WELL (Croatian Longitudinal Well-being Study) research was to follow well-being indicators longitudinally, on a large sample (N>5 000).For the purpose of the research we developed online platform with integrated questionnaire to assess various variables related to well-being. Participants could assess the application via various browsers, and it was also adjusted for smart phones. “Friendly use” of the online application, understanding of questions and answering method, as well as ethical concerns, was tested using focus groups and individual trials. To enable matching the participants from two waves, every participant had to log in to the web page using his/her e-mail address. While e-mail address was protected by data-base, special computer-programme created token associated with each participant. A year after completing the initial questionnaire, participants were automatically invited to complete the follow-up. This paper brings review of designing and conducting a longitudinal research having in mind advantages and disadvantages of online survey.
