The concept of labyrinth is important to Julio Cortazar's literature, especially in works like Rayuela and in tales like those gathered in Bestiario. As his reader, Roberto Bolano for the time being seems to manifest in works like Amuleto the resignification of this labyrinthine capacity, taking literature to other levels, in which the notions of construction and destruction of the narrative can be associated with both the fatality of an abyss and the performance that involves the point of view of the narrator. This article aims to analyze how these movements occur in both authors and to what extent approximations and distances are possible within this larger labyrinth in which they both live together, Latin American literature.

The naturalist Fritz Muller published the article “Der Minhocao”, in 1877, in the German magazine Zoologische Garten, collecting testimonies about the inusual annelid that would have been seen in the states of Santa Catarina, Parana and Sao Paulo. Object this reading, the 19th century scientific report is read from the theory of displacement of the ideas of Philosophy of As If (Philosophie des Als Ob, 1911), by Hans Vaihinger, with elements of Wolfgang Iser (fictional, imaginary) and Vilem Flusser (philosophical fable Vampyrotheutis Infernalis). In this reading, descriptions of alternating zoology by Guimaraes Rosa and Wilson Bueno, a poem by Fritz Muller and a fragment of Galaxias, by Haroldo de Campos, are counterpoints that explore the limits between fiction and fact, and between fiction, hypothesis and scientific dogma.

This article proposes a reading of “Os doentes”, poem included in the book Eu, by the poet Augusto dos Anjos, starting from the philosopher Walter Benjamin’s conception about allegory as a ruinous procedure of language. In this poem, an “I” narrates historical events as someone who walks through an anachronistic metropolis, being himself pierced by individual decrepitude – the hetica, at the same time that he suffers a guilt for having “violated the laws of Nature” – the ethics. I consider death and physical decrepitude - portrayed throughout the poem in the body, in illness, in the corpse and in putrefaction - as allegorical of the moral and ethical degeneration of a “blond race”. Such reading makes it possible to place the narrative voice of the poem in two threshold dimensions, because the “I” is at the same time another (the sicks) and the others (a sick civilization).

In this article, we aim to dialogue with Elida Tessler’s artistic work, specifically her work 365, to reflect about subjects as sending and time. This installation – located between literature and visual art, word and image – emerges from an invitation by the artist to her interlocutors (known and unknown) to choose a letter from the favorite authors and send her a copy by mail. She waited for these correspondences for a year – 365 days –, between 2014 and 2015, to set up her exhibition with all the cards arranged in a huge suitcase. We understand her gesture, moved by affections, as a search for the fragile balance of a wait, of those letters sent as a promise, contingency. In her creative process, she proposes, to herself and to the other, new temporalities, escaping chronology and approaching a fluid time, with its multiple durations. In order to deepen this analysis, we evoke the theory of thinkers like Henri Bergson, Jacques Derrida, George Steiner, Giorgio Agamben, and others.

A world of medieval shine, expanded in violent, animalistic, monstrous acts of the Self: this is how unveils the narrative of the prize-winning novel the remorse of baltazar serapiao (2006), by the Angolan writer Valter Hugo Mae. With an unmistakable style conducted by the refusal of capital letters and formal punctuation models, the author applies a dense, oral narrative, embedded with carnal, primitive senses of language. Monstrosity dominates the actions of the protagonist, baltazar, from the physical/psychological deconstruction of his lady up until the misogynist concept that trespasses the saga – as well as the tyranny of his father against his own mother. Indeed, a paradoxical “misogyny”, since the I-narrator does not destroy only the feminine, but the humanity code that conceives each one of the characters. Witches, Lords, and the dammed: all partners in the convulsive dance opposed to fertility and resistance of the Being.

his article aimed to contribute to the list of research on Carolina Maria de Jesus, an important figure in contemporary Brazilian literature, and to weave some reflections around the notion of (de) construction of the body, under the axis of social representations, in the work Quarto of eviction: diary of a favela (2014). For this, it was considered as a relevant element the place of speech of Carolina de Jesus, who recreates the unhealthy environment in which she lived and projects in the linguistic materiality the different voices of the favela construct. Thus, by means of an interpretative study, we started from the theoretical body status, in the Psychoanalysis of Jacques Lacan, and from the construction and deconstruction of Antelo (2007) and Nancy (2014), in order to indicate how the corporeality of the common reality is established in narrative.

This article establishes the connection between MAD magazine, a North America humor magazine, and the hybridization between ight art and serious art, according to Andreas Huysen’s thoughts. The two art spheres will face problems with the current culture industry concept and its set of ideas. In the sequence, we will approach the general characteristics of the magazine as we look for a synthesis with the ideas we present. In summary, the article will discuss the theme of consumerism, which appears several times in the publication, as a form of critical engagement, which is an attribute of serious art, as a reaction to the domination mechanisms of a society based on the consumerism culture.

This piece tries to think the statutes that the absents and the remembrances have in the fiction’s narrative by the Italian writer Natalia Ginzburg. The propose is to draw a path by four novel’s endings – La strada che va in citta, Tutti i nostri ieri, Caro Michele and La citta e la casa – for read them with excerpts of Ginzburg’s essays, fragments of Espinosa related with the absence and the capacity of desire and Walter Benjamin’s concept of experience. The hypothesis of reading consists in the outline of a possible kind of joy in a world without sense, very different of an idyllic happiness because includes the ambivalence, and in the experience’s survival through the work with the memory.
