The development of social media apparently also influenced social communication amongst the pesantren community, including the daughter of the Kiai, called as "ning". This article discusses artifactual communication on Instagram status which was uploaded by "Ning" of Islamic boarding school (Pondok pesantren). Using a text analysis approach, the results of this study concluded that uploaded images on Instagram conducted periodically by "Ning" of Pondok pesantren was a form of a non-verbal message pattern that could be interpreted as artifactual communication, which reflected the established and high socio-economic class "Ning" as the Kiai's daughter. In addition, the respect given to Kiai's daughter on social media was similar to what occurred in real life. In this sense, the polite attitude which was found in the cyber community was the reflection that occurred in the offline reality in pesantren.

This paper analyses the social communication model of a menyilaq ritual within the Bayan indigenous people in North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). By using the ethnographic communication approach, this study found that the tradition of menyilaq carried out by Pebenkel to the Bayan indigenous people utilised the patterns of passive top-down and active top-down socialization. The Menyilaq ritual reflected effective communication as there were personal contact and immediate feedback within both top-down socialisation models. Additionally, it became a medium of communication of silaturahim which were considered as a form of respects to maintain family ties and able to build good relations among community members. Further, the tradition has shown its consistency in maintaining the tradition of information delivery amid the onslaught of the current communication technology.

This article seeks to discuss in depth the model of networking proselytising conducted by the Asociation of Preachers in Localization Area (IDIAL) and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of East Java in attempting to close down prostitution practices in East Java. Using a participatory approach, this study concluded that the IDIAL-MUI networking da'wah model used both structural and cultural approaches. The structural approach was carried out by building and strengthening power networks, namely bureaucracy, politics and the military in the process of closing the "localization". Whereas the cultural approach is carried out through building networks amongst the social, economic, community, and tertiary organization sectors by using da'wah bi al-hal. In addition, the da'wah bi al-lisan (verbal) also conducted within the cultural approach through preaching and creating majlis taklim.

This paper discusses da'wah (proselytising) through social media. The prevailing method of da'wah used by da'i currently is considered to still tend to be traditional and monotonous. As a result, the message delivered to mad'u was not well conveyed. This is certainly a challenge that must be answered so that the message can be well received by audiences. Therefore, the method of da'wah should be formulated in accordance with the demands of the times and technological developments is required nowadays. Social media is one tool that is suitable for preaching in the current era of modernization. By using YouTube propaganda material can be easily accepted among the wider community. Using Anthony Mayfield's social media theory, preaching through social media is at least able to answer the challenge

This study aims to look at the role of ulama rantau in the process of proselytising (da'wah) in the Ngaju Dayak community, East Kotawaringin town, Central Kalimantan Province, particularly regarding the way ulama deal with a Dayak local culture which deeply remains lived within this community. Using a qualitative research method and the ethnographic approach, the findings revealed that the way ulama rantau conveyed the da'wah messages in a polite manner implicated to Ngaju Dayak ethnic society's acceptance towards Islam. Further, because ulama rantau respected the local cultural wisdom when conveying da’wah, people appreciated Islam brought by ulama (da’i) n the midst of a society which has different beliefs and cultural backgrounds.

This study aims to examine the proselytizing movement of Tarekat Qodiriyah wa Naqsyabandiyah (TQN) in Ngroto Village during 1984-2015. Using qualitative method and phenomenological approach, the findings have revealed that the proselytizing (da’wah) of TQN was conducted through internal and external organizations. Meanwhile, TQN’s strategy of da’wah ulitised individual and collective approach though establishing Islamic boarding school (pesantren), social activities, center of economic activity, and organization called al-Khidmah. In regard with personal approach, a talqin or caliph representative acts more as a religious counselor. Further, the message of proselytizing of TQN attempts to comprehend tauhid, fiqh and tasawwuf (mysticism).

The 2017 Jakarta governor election had encouraged polarization among Muslims, including among media social users: those who agreed and those who disagreed with voting for Basuki Ahok Tjahaja Purnama since he was prosecuted for allegedly committing blasphemy. This study has examined the cognitive pattern amongst disputants: whether cognitive pattern and religiosity contribute to political disagreements or not. Participants were Indonesia’s Muslim social media users (N=300). Using multiple regression analysis, the findings have demonstrated that analytical thinking produces higher disagreement than holistic thinking. In addition, higher level of religiosity produces higher disagreement.

This paper aims to examine the form of da’wa message in the al-Qur’an. It argues that the forms of proselytizing (da’wa) message in the Qur’an encompass; Qur’anic verses, prophetic tradition, scholar’s opinions, research results, stories, and news. The Qur’anic verses play a major role in regard with da’wa message due to its distinctive functions, namely as guidance or humankind, criterion between right and wrong, evaluation standards for other holy scriptures, and as a medium of enlightenment. Ḥadȋth of the Prophet Muhammad, Saw., also considered as form of da’wa message because it interpret some verses or make clarifications of ambiguities which hide in some verses. While ulema roles is as a reference for religious studies as well as stories and news constitute the proselytizing message.
