Antipsychotic drugs are crucial for treating mental illnesses but can cause various side effects due to their non-selectivity and high affinity. A study has shown that the prevalence of extrapyramidal side effects among patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder on antipsychotic medication was 42.6%, with specific side effects including tardive dyskinesia, parkinsonism, and akathisia. These symptoms can significantly impact individuals' quality of life, so effective management is crucial to minimize their impact. Recent advances in the management of EPS include the use of atypical/second-generation antipsychotics and anticholinergic medications. These have been shown to be effective in managing EPS and have a better safety profile than first-generation antipsychotics. Other important strategies for managing EPS include using lower doses of antipsychotics, combination therapy, anticholinergic drugs, and non-pharmacological interventions such as physical therapy, lifestyle modifications, andaddressing potential non-adherence to treatment.

Ergonomics in the workplace is an aspect that must be considered, because it has potential hazards such as work position, inappropriate body posture when doing work, design of work tools, workplaces that are not in accordance with labor anthropometry, and lifting loads that exceed work capacity. By implementing ergonomics in the workplace, a safe and comfortable work system, work environment, and work equipment will be created for all workers. So that workers can avoid injury or accidents while working, but it can also avoid occupational diseases. Therefore, work facilities must be designed ergonomically so that it has an impact on increasing work productivity.

Farmers rely heavily on pesticides to protect crops from pests. Pesticides exposure will inhibit the acetylcholinesterase enzyme and will cause cholinergic symptoms which manifest as neuropathy. The research was conducted in March-April 2023 in Wuluhan District, Jember Regency. Pesticide exposure was evaluated through interviews using a pesticide exposure questionnaire, while neuropathy was evaluated through interviews and physical examination using the Diabetic Neuropathy Symptom Score-Indonesian version (DNS-Ina) and Diabetic Neuropathy Examination-Indonesian version (DNE-Ina) questionnaires. Univariate data analysis and bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test. The results of this study showed that most of the study subjects had worked 10 years, the frequency of using pesticides ≤2 times per week, the duration of using pesticides ≤3 hours per day, the use of PPE is lacking. Bivariate analysis showed that neuropathy occurred in the farmer group, and there was a significant relationship between length of service and neuropathy, as well as the completeness of PPE use and neuropathy. However, there was no relationship between the frequency of pesticide use and neuropathy and the duration of pesticide use and neuropathy. The conclusion of this study is that the variable length of service and the completeness of the use of PPE have a relationship with the symptoms of neuropathy in farmers. While the variables of frequency and duration of use of pesticides are not related to neuropathy in farmers.

Introduction: Dental caries is characterized by progressive demineralization and plaque formation by Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria due to biofilm formation as a microbial defense mechanism that binds to EPS. To address this issue, cocoa fruit husks extract is utilized as it contains active flavonoids with antibacterial properties. Objective: Demonstrate that cocoa fruit husk extract can degrade Lactobacillus acidophilus bacterial EPS biofilm and determine the optimal concentration of cocoa fruit husk extract. Methods: Cocoa Fruit Husk Extract Preparation was followed by Lactobacillus acidophilus bacterial preparation. Dilution was performed to achieve a concentration of 106 Bacteria/mL. Microtiter plates with flat-bottom 24 wells were sealed. They were then divided into two groups: one as a control without cocoa fruit husk extract and the other with cocoa fruit husk extract at concentrations of 1.56%; 3.125%; 4.69%; 6.25%; and 7.8%, and incubated at 35°C for 24 hours. Subsequently, they were aspirated, washed 4 times with phosphate-buffered saline, stained with dextran alexa fluor 647, and rinsed with distilled water. Biofilm sections, 0.5 mm thick, were placed on glass slides, and EPS Biofilm was measured using CLSM at 40x magnification. Results: The division into microtiter plates showed that the 7.8% concentration had the highest potential with a value of X ± SD = 8.3366 ± 1.76364 in degrading EPS biofilm compared to others. This is in line with previous research, indicating that higher extract concentrations lead to better biofilm degradation activity. Conclusion: Cocoa fruit husk extract can degrade Lactobacillus acidophilus bacterial EPS biofilm, with the most optimal concentration being 7.8%.

Introduction: Persistent symptoms of COVID-19 were discovered in certain individuals even after the initial onset of the illness. Fatigue is among the issues observed in people who have Post-Acute Sequelae Covid-19 (PASC). However, available treatment choices for fatigue in PASC have been constrained so far. In several patient groups, essential oils (EO) extracted from plants have been demonstrated to lessen fatigue. This review's objective is to provide all available data on the advantages of plant-derived EO for fatigue and their capacity to heal PASC that is related to fatigue. The application of EO derived from plants, like Lavender, Sweet Orange; a blend of Lavender, Rosemary, Juniper, and Cananga; an assortment of Ravensara, Frankincense, and Sandalwood; a combination of Peppermint leaves; Evening Primrose, Clove Bud, Black Pepper, Bergamot, and White Grapefruit, has demonstrated to reduce fatigue across various groups of patients when compared to a control group.Conclusion: Considering the existing evidence, EO derived from plants might play a role and offer potential benefits in alleviating fatigue in individuals with PASC.

The Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) is a program intended for people with chronic diseases such as hypertension which is quite effective but there are still many hypertensive patients who have not used the program. Hypertension is one of the causes of premature death due to the high rate of complications, the incidence of hypertension in the world continues to increase, especially in Indonesia. An increase in the incidence of hypertension will determine a person's health status. The purpose of this study was to identify the Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis), to identify the health status of Prolanis participants with hypertension, and to determine the relationship between Prolanis activities and the health status of hypertensive patients at the Muara Satu Subdistrict Health Center, Lhokseumawe City. The research method used a cross sectional research design, to analyze the relationship between Prolanis and the health status of hypertensive patients using the Chi Square test. The results showed the characteristics of the majority of Prolanis participants with hypertension were early elderly (46-55 years), female gender, not working, elementary school education, and marital status, as well as long suffering from hypertension with short duration occupying the highest position. The description of the degree of hypertension is more in the category of first-degree hypertension, most of the elderly who participate in Prolanis are in the good category (65.7%) and have the most health status in the good category (74.3%). The elderly who participate in Prolanis in the sufficient category will have sufficient health status (100%). Likewise, the elderly who participate in Prolanis in the good category will have a good health status (88.5). The conclusion of this study shows that there is a significant relationship between participating in Prolanis activities and the health status of the elderly.

Introduction: By definition, scoliosis is a three-dimensional deformity of the spine. From the etiologic, scoliosis can be divided into three kinds, congenital scoliosis, neuromuscular scoliosis, and the most common type, idiopathic scoliosis. Several patients experience spondylolisthesis concomitant with scoliosis. Understanding the pathoanatomic of these two abnormalities is very important to achieve optimal treatment. The problem lies in the extent to which vertebral instrumentation is necessary.Case presentation: The authors describe five idiopathic scoliosis patients with spondylolisthesis. We also used the Lenke classification to categorize these patients. The patient came with the complaint of a crooked back. All patients did not complain of back pain. The patients were diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis from the physical and radiological examination. Concomitant spondylolisthesis was found in all five patients. The surgeon decided to perform deformity correction surgery followed by posterior stabilization fusion for scoliosis. There is no specific corrective surgery for the patients' spondylolisthesis.Discussion and Conclusion: Scoliosis has its challenges for orthopedic spine surgeons. Many things must be assessed in scoliosis, such as history, physical examination, full spine x-ray evaluation, Lenke classification, and instrumentation measures. Spondylolisthesis associated with scoliosis generally occurs in the lower lumbar segment. The pathoanatomic of spondylolisthesis concomitant with scoliosis was divided into two kinds and can be grouped according to three theories. Each of these theories will lead to appropriate treatment actions. Deformity correction is aimed at one pathoanatomic but improves both abnormalities if the appropriate treatment is taken.

Deformity correction is aimed at one pathoanatomic but improves both abnormalities if the appropriate treatment is taken.","PeriodicalId":32458,"journal":{"name":"JKS Jurnal Kedokteran Syiah Kuala","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136134439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Introduction: Tongue tie, also known as ankyloglossia, is characterized by a small lingualfrenum that often prevents the tongue from moving. It is a rare congenital mouthabnormality that might lead to functional problems such as improper swallowing, speechdifficulty, and psychological stress. This study's purpose of providing an unusual incidenceof neglected tongue tie with thermal welding frenotomy.Case Presentation: A 4 years old male patient was bought by his parent to the Departmentof Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery with the chief complaint of offensivespeech. The patient cannot speak the word F, R, T, L, D. Additionally, the parent said that hewas unable to chew solid meals. There was a history when the patient was a baby; hismother could not breastfeed him. According to the clinical examination, the patient had atongue tie with a thick frenum, limited tongue movements like protrusion, and elevation ofthe tongue tip. A bifid or heart-shaped structure was seen on the front tongue tip.Discussion: The patient underwent a thermal welding frenotomy under intravenoussedation. This approach's effectiveness relies on using heat and pressure to block bloodarteries. This study established the novel technology as a secure procedure for tongue tie.After a frenotomy procedure, patients show an improved ability to articulate consonantsbetter.Conclusion: This study supports thermal welding frenotomy as an efficient and securetreatment for children with tongue tie.
