The article is devoted to the analysis of the reflection of the concepts "friend or foe" in political media texts using metaphors. Particular attention is focused on describing the role and functions of metaphors in political discourse, as well as relationships between metaphors and political life. The relevance of the article lies in the fact that political metaphors are an important topic in the study of political discourse. Political discourse is characterized by a pronounced presence of the binary opposition "friend or foe". With the help of metaphors, addressees express the position of “their own” or “someone else's” and show the political values of the linguistic personality. The value system is closely related not only to the individual, but also to the whole society. As a result of the study, it has been proved that changes in values largely reflect the development and changes of society. The article combines political values and political metaphors for a comprehensive analysis of value orientations and characteristics of the use of metaphors in political media texts.

The article is devoted to the ways of implementation of the case-method in teaching English at the courses of further education for adults. Using case-method allows to implement the principles of functional approach in teaching foreign languages and to imitate a true-to-life everyday or professional problem situation. On the base of a case-situation a teacher can make up a set of language and communication tasks that help use the resources of the text in a foreign language. The article presents the author's training toolkit including the text of the case, tasks for discussing the problem situation as well as vocabulary, grammar and communicative exercises on a definite theme. The toolkit was tested at the courses for adult students organized by the Academy of foreign languages from A to Z of Astrakhan state university in 2020. The materials presented in this article can be used in teaching English as a foreign language.

The article deals with the pragmatic aspect of the text, i.e. its focus on the addressee, the implementation of which is carried out by special means of different levels of the language. The purpose of the work is to define and study means of addressing in a scientific and educational text. The means of addressing (compositional-orienting, delimiting and thought-activating), characteristic of the author of this text, were investigated using the descriptive method. The most delightful are compositional-orienting and thought-activating means, which correspond to the author's goals. The investigated text presents not only experience, but also the art of surgery, which is achieved through the involvement of different types of dialogics. Achieve a vivid, real statement of the sequence of actions for the author allows the designation of the person to whom the advice is addressed. The undertaken research is determined by the direct connection of the studied topic with modern trends in the development of an anthropocentric approach to linguistic phenomena.

The poetics of the debut stories of Gazdanov is very different from the poetics of the stories of subsequent periods of his work. These differences are especially evident in composition, plot, style and bear the imprint of innovation for literature of the first half of the XX century. An analysis of the debut stories of Gazdanov allowed us to note that they are already visible elements of the aesthetics of modernism (later, postmodernism): the rejection of the traditional composition, intrigue, plot; parody, game, self-irony, etc.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the fairy tale manner of narration in the poetic heritage of V. Narbut. The researched author, in the context of the main poetic tendencies of Russian literature at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, in search of new forms of narration, actively rethinks and includes existing narrative models in his work. The tale in this aspect provides great opportunities for poetic representation of the author's intentions. This work reveals the main stylistic, figurative and lexical signs of the tale, as well as the ways of their embodiment and refraction in the artistic picture of the poet's world in line with the poetic quests of acmeism.

In the article the author addresses the study of the problem of the inocular reception of vocabulary with the meaning of emotion and evaluation. It is proved that first, the study of emotion provides for the formation of a student's attitude to a person as the highest value. The study of the category of emotion and the means of expressing it in the language is carried out taking into account the human factor that is, referring to a person not only as a person, who speaks and thinks, but as also feels. In addition, the article emphasizes the idea that the anthropological nature of modern linguistics involves the study of language processes when the subject of speech and its recipient are included in the description of language mechanisms.

The analysis of pragmatic characteristics of linguistic means, manifesting democratic and authoritarian styles of pedagogical communication, is carried out. The material of the research was the original scripts of the feature films "Dead Poets Society" ("Society of Dead Poets", 1989) and "Mona Lisa Smile" ("Mona Lisa's smile", 2003). The following research methods such as conceptual analysis, interpretive analysis and pragmassemantic analysis were used. The aim of the work is to study the pragmalinguistic characteristics of pedagogical communication styles. The topic of the work seems to be relevant, since, on the one hand, there is an increased interest of linguists in the study of various aspects of pedagogical discourse, and on the other hand, pedagogical communication styles have not been sufficiently studied from a pragmalinguistic point of view. The democratic and authoritarian styles of pedagogical communication are considered. It has been established that each of them is characterized by a certain set of means, manifesting democracy and authoritarianism at the pragmalinguistic level. The revealed speech acts allow to characterize the communication styles of teachers as democratic or authoritarian. As a result of the analysis of the factual material, markers of the democratic and authoritarian styles of pedagogical communication were revealed. It was found that the democratic style of communication is manifested with the help of speech acts that perform an inspirational (inspirational) function, such as praise, imperatives (calls for value-related actions), declarative (proclamation of certain values); through a speech act of advice as well as a joke. The markers of the authoritarian style of communication include directive speech acts (warnings about punishment, bordering on a threat, requirements for compliance with established rules, orders, prohibitions, recommendations) and a speech act of teaching.
