The interpretation of irony in works of art, as well as the disclosure of the mechanism of its action, are not without difficulties. Irony is often quite difficult to understand, especially in the works of fiction by foreign writers. The question of the context necessary for the functioning and implementation of irony also remains unresolved. Obviously, an ironic message can be localized in one word at the lexical level, but there is no single answer to the question of whether it can be read in the context of the entire work. This raises the problem of interpreting the context of irony.

The aim of the research is to study the verbalization of medical knowledge, metaphorical nomination as one of the ways to replenish the Russian medical dictionary in medical texts from different historical periods, using the material of verbsterms. Thanks to the scenario approach, a cognitive scenario of the verbs of medical care is described, which includes three scenes in general and is concretized in the meanings of the verbs used. The synchronous-diachronic research method made it possible to draw a conclusion about the productivity of metaphorical transfer in a medical text, since this is a way of creating a special verb vocabulary and terms that is characteristic of all periods of the development of the national medical dictionary. The results of the work can be used in further cognitive research of medical care verbs and verb terms.

The problem of evil and the devil as a representative of evil has long existed in the religion and culture of different nations. This article attempts to find similarities on this issue in the novel “The Master and Margarita” by Mikhail Bulgakov (1891-1940) and in the approach of some Islamic Sufis, such as Mansur al-Hallaj (858-922) and Ain al-Kuzat Hamadani (1098-1131), etc. What is common in the image of the devil in the pages of the novel of a Russian writer of the twentieth century, a native of the Orthodox environment, and in the texts of medieval Islamic mystics? Common to representatives of these different cultures and eras is the desire to comprehend the problem of the existence of evil in the world and its embodiment in the form of the devil. The similarity is in the fact that the problem of evil and its bearer is posed by Bulgakov and Sufis both in a purely religious context, and in philosophical, Gnostic. In both Islam and Christianity, the devil (“Satan”, “Shaitan”) is the main opponent of the heavenly forces, which is the highest personification of evil and pushes a person on the path of spiritual death. In addition to the religious context, the devil is seen as the result of a Gnostic and mystical approach by different thinkers in the form of an artistic image.

The article deals with the reception study of F. M. Dostoevsky's novel "The Brothers Karamazov" in the Z. N. Gippius’ works. The article presents an analysis of the short story "Ivan Ivanovich and the Devil" (1905) in this aspect. Much attention is given to the connection between the Gippius' text and the chapter of the novel "The Brothers Karamazov" "The Grand Inquisitor". It is shown that the short story "Ivan Ivanovich and the Devil" has a motif-thematic complex, which source is the poem "The Grand Inquisitor". It is determined that the motif-thematic complex of the "poem" is realized in the short story on the character’s level. The themes and motifs of the "poem" are connected with both characters of the story; therefore they are in constant intersection and significantly complicate the semantics of the short story. It is noted that the author of the short story focuses on the universal problems of the "poem". The article also describes the individual semantic dominants of the of Z. N. Gippius’ works.

The article is aimed at identifying the group of images underlying the primary nominative acts of “success” in the Russian language. In the process of studying the language material excerpted from the dictionaries of Church Slavonic, old and modern Russian language, methods of definition, contextual, semantic-grammatical and cognitive-interpretative analysis were applied. It is established that the evolution of the verb сп ѣ ти proceeded in the direction from syncretism of the basic prototypical images (maturation, movement, readiness, help) to the formation of discrete meanings and the development of independent lexical units. The work contributes to the theory of semantic syncretism and fills in gaps in the field of cognitive comprehension of the culture-specific verbalization features on the image of success in the Russian language.

The article attempts to conduct a content analysis of literary texts about the Great Patriotic War in Karachai-Balkarian literature. The relevance of the study is based on the demand for works on a military theme in modern society. The article uses hermeneutic, cultural research methods, undoubtedly contributing to the statement of the moral and psy- chological aspect of the studied texts. The main conclusions drawn in the work include the statement that the literary texts of the Karachai-Balkarian authors about the Second World War are characterized by an anti-war humanistic orientation, representation of valor and courage, psychologism and drama.

The article is devoted to the description of the names of piscivorous birds in the Astrakhan dialects. The nominations of birds in the Russian language constitute a layer of common Slavic vocabulary. The Proto-Slavic vocabulary and wordformation system served as the basis for further historical development. A feature of the names of birds is the presence of two types of names - nomenclature (pelican, cormorant, seagull), formed on the basis of data from natural sciences, and folk. The subject of consideration is the process of formation of the Astrakhan nominations of piscivorous birds and the identification of motivating signs of derivative names, only a small part of which entered the literary language. In the Astrakhan dialects, there are more than 60 names of fish-eating birds. Derived nominations are indirect in relation to the rethought linguistic form.

The paper refers to the lexical meaning of the term "road map", which initially had a geographical and cartographic meaning, as a result of the calculated translation of the economic term roadmap into Russian, gained popularity in the administrative activities of institutions. The comparative research conducted in Russian and English is supported by large-scale sociological probing, the results of which prove the inappropriate use of this term in the professional and everyday life of the Russian-speaking population.
