A ramble through the last 1000 years of professional writing cultural history provides starting points for learning strategies and exercises that may help motivate pupils in Jahrgangsstufe 10 (10th grade) and above to use the new media in order to acquire the rules of upper and lower case spelling/writing as well as the rules of separate vs. compound spelling. Especially for trainees, the insight into learning and grammatical contexts (with the help of which spelling methods can be understood an internalized) is conducive to the development of orthographically correct writing skills.

Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) offers possibilities to build up linguistic competences both for common and specific purposes. This article discusses how learners cope with specific tasks after a language-based instruction. As a basis of comparison serves the common instruction mode, i.e. the one without much emphasis on language.

Any linguistic-glottodidactic examination of newly developed teaching and learning material requires a thorough criteria-based analysis. The main objective of this article is to present the results of a linguistically and glottodidactically oriented criteria-based analysis of modern electronic media in specialized foreign language teaching using the example of the JASNE-Alles klar! project, which is available as an online language course implemented on a learning platform (Moodle). A key tool for the investigation was the redesigned criteria catalog for the analysis of software-based language learning programs, proposed by the FG Sprachwissenschaft - Mehrsprachigkeit at the Technische Universitat Darmstadt.

Young people in international remedial classes are not only in need of careers guidance and German language lessons. They also need language learning which, based on aesthetic, holistic learning, takes their psychological, social and cultural background into account. Performative lessons in German as a second language play an important role in this, as relevant methods increase the learners’ motivation. They also make authentic, intercultural, reflected linguistic expression more accessible. This type of language teaching significantly complements lessons in German as a second language, which are usually based on course books, and promotes the acquisition of vocational communicative skills.

Viewed from an intercultural or transcultural perspective respectively, individual and socio-cultural parameters have to be taken into account when looking at the acquisition of mathematical competences. This article outlines the sociological base and the principles of mathematics methodology, and presents first findings from a research project that follows teenage asylum seekers attending vocational schools. Based on concrete mathematics classroom situations, thoughts on aspects of educational theory and mathematics pedagogy are developed that illustrate how classroom participation of linguistically diverse teenage learners can be facilitated.
