In this paper we discuss a simple and inexpensive method to study pendular movement and head-on elastic collisions, according to the Bring-Your-Own-Device philosophy. A popular toy, the Newton's cradle, can be used to provide a pendular or a collision system, and the movements of the spheres can be tracked by video analysis, using a smartphone. We show that the conservation of momentum and kinetic energy, upon collision of two or more spheres, can be easily confirmed and that the pendular movement can be studied in detail. A more complete analysis, appropriate for undergraduate students in STEM degrees, is also suggested.

Recently there is a lot of interest and emphasis on university teachers' training and their certification. This is mainly connected to the strong implication of professors' competences and to the quality of the higher education which, in turn, have a direct relationship with the changes that the universities have experienced since the Bologna Plan. This Plan has impacted the history of each institution of higher education. Indeed, in the current period, the worldwide educational systems are making efforts to change their structures and modifying didactic and pedagogical approaches. It is therefore essential to consider the changes and the challenges of the teaching staff. The aim of this research is to compare and evaluate the pedagogical training of university professors as well as to investigate the different models that each university developed to implement its version of pedagogical training.

Massive and Open Online Courses (MOOCs) provide an opportunity to reach the target audience widely. To maximize its potential, a pedagogical model of MOOC in Educational Technologies was implemented at Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP) to satisfy deaf and blind communities. These communities face many communication barriers, not allowing them to integrate within the larger intellectual communities as most tools used for information dissemination remain inaccessible to them. The Blind/Deaf Communications API (BDC-API) proposed framework, translates digital educational content for the deaf and for the blind, who otherwise would be unable to get access to that content, leading to lack of information which may be essential for a more consistent and complete education.

Cadena SER and COPE are the two most played full-service radio stations in Spain. They are also the two stations that have bet the most on the production of podcasts, whose consumption is meant for the Internet, not traditional radio. This article discusses the activity generated around these types of programmes in the two social networks in which the aforementioned radio stations have more global presence: Facebook and Twitter. A purely quantitative method is used to analyze the presence of these programmes on the aforementioned social networks and, particularly, number of posts, formats and forms of interaction. The paper concludes that the use of social networks by the radio networks is very heterogeneous and does not reflect patterns of use: while some programmes have many followers, others have very few. In addition, the number of posts they make is also very diverse, and so it is their forms of interaction. As a reflection, it is important to emphasize that not all radio stations take advantage of social networks in the same way and to the same extent.

EU-Bank is an Erasmus+ Jean Monnet project to provide basic knowledge on key issues about EU financial system. One of the basic components of the project, available from the web site financialculture.org, is the web application. The application offers the functionality of a financial calculator and a new service called the financial advisor. This service allows anyone to send a query that will be answered by senior students of a financial degree with the guidance of their teacher. This workshop aims to spread the use of the financial advisor inside EU-Bank and to provide basic financial culture for people with different backgrounds.

Considering the importance of the digital aspects of our society, we must rely on the opportunities offered by technology for improving assessment. This paper presents a study that indicates the development and use of mobile technologies in participatory assessment processes, with the intention of encouraging students' critical and evaluative judgement. For this, design-based research [1] is used to follow a mixed intervention design, in which assessment as learning and empowerment (student participation and feedback) will be put into practice through the use of mobile technologies. The sample will be composed of 1,065 students on different Bachelor's and Master's degree courses at three public universities in Spain. The study sets out to demonstrate the value added by Technology-Enhanced Assessment (TEA) to the emerging field of mobile learning, as well as its contribution to the development of students' evaluative judgement.

A method for mapping actimetry data between two platforms has been carried out; one platform is the CE and FDA approved ActiGraph wGT3X-BT, valid in clinical diagnosis, and the second one is Microsoft Band 2 Smartband, available for the general public. The method consists of a regression performed using machine learning technique, specifically, different configurations of neural networks have been tested. Access to the data has been achieved by means of an in-house mobile application.

Citations count in reference databases has been consolidated as the traditional method of assessing the impact of a scientific work. However, the recent developments around the diversity of web communication channels triggered the scientific community to start questioning the legitimacy of these metrics as the sole indicators of impact. In this context, alternative metrics based on web indicators have begun to emerge. This study attempts to determine the existence of a correlation between traditional citations and altmetric mentions, while also considering if the type of access --- open or restricted --- has an influence in the impact of a publication. The study is based on a mixed methodology. The sample was composed by the most cited hot papers extracted from the Web of Science, and the most mentioned papers in Altmetrics, between 2016 and 2018, according to type of access. Their numbers in altmetrics and in reference databases (Web of Science and Scopus) was collected and the data was analyzed using Spearman's correlation coefficient. It is concluded that there is not a significant correlation between citations and altmetrics mentions, and that the type of access is not relevant for a paper's success.

Uncertainties in data, e.g., incomplete data sets, data quality issues or inconsistencies in annotations, are a common phenomenon across disciplines. How to address these issues is context dependent. In this paper, we address uncertainties in the citizen-driven archive Topotheque as a concrete use-case in the Digital Humanities project exploreAT!, and demonstrate, how to deal with uncertainties by benchmarking a set of selected commercial computer vision (CV) tools. The approach aims to enrich Topotheque's data to enable better access, connectivity and analysis for both researchers and citizens. Results show that by applying CV, existing uncertainties are noticeably reduced, but new ones also introduced. Better grounds for semantic structuring are provided, enabling higher connectivity and linking within Topotheque, but also across other data sets. Ultimately, the enrichment of the archive is for the benefit of both researchers and citizens enabled by addressing and tackling apparent uncertainties.

This paper presents preliminary findings from a project-based learning laboratory of robotics aimed at stimulating computational thinking processes in primary school students. The laboratory was carried out within the context of an ongoing project funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research. The aim of the project is to activate a national network for the enhancement of students' technological and scientific skills in school and extra-school settings. A group of 51 students, engaged in the robotics laboratory, were compared to a comparison group of 32 students in order to evaluate the impact of programming WeDo robotics artefacts on the development of computational thinking skills. Overall, the results showed that programming robotics artefacts may exert positive effects on children's acquisition of computational thinking skills.
