Radio is considered as the most widespread electronic mass medium in the world and a unique means of reaching the world‟s poorest communities. However, as far as community radio (CR) is concerned, it addresses issues relevant to the public interest of a particular geographic group or community. It is the foremost medium that gives the marginalised a voice, when their voices are suppressed by the haves and the mainstream mass media which is also under the control of haves. The community radio in Sri Lanka has a four decade old history; yet, the country stands the risk of having this pioneering experience with CR locked away as a memory, as, of now, there is no community radio in true sense available in Sri Lanka. This paper has attempted to find out the reasons behind the failure of community radio broadcasting in Sri Lanka. Using semi-structured indepth interviews, eight leading community radio activists, advocates and researchers in Sri Lanka were interviewed. The causes identified for the failure of CR in Sri Lanka are state control over CR stations, an inexistent legal framework for community radio, inadequate funding, and human resources, misconceptions of responsible government authorities‟, the lack of knowledge about the true sense and relevance of community radio, the appointment of permanent staff from Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation than giving more priority to the volunteers from the same community, competition with mainstream media, and less dedication to community radio.

Social media provide a common platform to the public to speak about social injustice and put grievances about the policies. They also unite and act against crimes. Social Media has been instrumental in the propagation of gender inequality protests around the world. This purpose of study is to assess the influence of the “#Me Too movement” on intention to control sexual harassment against women and further to suggest a framework using mass communication as a tool to create awareness and control sexual harassment against women. Multivariate data analysis was conducted through Partial Least Squares Path Modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze the data. The questionnaire was circulated through WhatsApp and emails to 800 Indian participants. The results suggested that social media movement like “#Me Too movement” has a positive influence on the intention to control sexual harassment against women. This research showed that awareness about sex-based crimes could be increased with participation in these kinds of social movements which in turn leads to the formation of an intention to control sexual harassment against women.

The COVID-19 pandemic is today's biggest public health crisis and the world's largest threat to humanity since the Second World War. COVID-19 has triggered a profound economic crisis, as well as an unprecedented human toll . India is trying to minimise the pandemic‟s impact and for this Centre and State governments are working hard to sensitise people to keep all the precautions suggested by international and national experts to stop it‟s spread. The motive of this study is to know whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi is managed to send the right message at the right time. What are the messages and how many times during the lockdown or post lockdown, he addressed the country to instil trust in the people. This research work also focused on to discuss how frequently he has briefed about the measures being taken to curb COVID-19 and to bring the situation under control. In order to study speeches PM Modi delivered during the lockdown, this work aims at conducting the content analysis of Mann ki Baat episodes (March-June 2020) based on the COVID-19 information and all those appeals to the nation that PM made in the 4 months ( March –June 2020) have been used as a sample for the study. This paper outlines the scope of understanding how PM has inculcated the habit among people about taking precautions to prevent themselves from COVID-19.

‗The best argument against democracy is a five- minute conversation with the average voter‘ is a famous quote by Winston Churchill. The statement also indicates the success or failure in any form of government depends primarily on voters and not on parties or politicians. The sustenance of a government in a democratic set up and in the age of anti-incumbency is viable only if it has the mandate. The current government in the territory of India is thriving despite a strong effort by the opposition to come together and stand against the government. The last two Lok Sabha elections held in 2014 and 2019 in India has been exemplary from the perspective that it has largely been Bhartiya Janata Party versus all other political parties, unlike the previous election where there has been contest between ruling and opposition parties. This paper aims to review the functioning of the incumbent government in last five years from manifesto till its implementation. The paper also aims to review the different policies launched by the government and their outcome. The paper will also examine how the government took some landmark decisions that witnessed mass protest and may prove fatal in times to come.

Job stress is the most prevalent issue of the current scenario. It is observed that one out of four employees is affected by stress; thereby, it has attained the interests of many researchers. The rapid evolution of job stress research papers in the last years resulted that there is a need to conduct a detailed analysis of literature in this field. To address this problem, some researchers published a few review papers on job stress from different perspectives. Nonetheless, papers have not been published on job stress with bibliometric analysis. In the present study, an attempt is made to investigate the job stress publications with bibliometric analysis. Scopus database is considered as a literature database. Through analysis, article, conference paper, book chapter, review, Letter, editorial, note, book, short survey, data paper, Erratum, Retracted, and Undefined retrieved from Scopus indexes from 2010 to 2020. The collected data is analyzed against six research questions. The results revealed valuable insight, including annual publications, top contributing authors, Journal & affiliation, type of publication, subject area, the top country in publication, and keyword network. It is found from the analysis that the interest of researchers in job stress was at a peak in 2016. The top research area associated with job stress includes medicine, Social Sciences, and Business Management & accounting. Lambert, E.G. contributed the most in job stress publications. These findings can guide future researchers to set up a baseline before instigating a job stress research work.

The term Covid-19 which refers to a Novel virus creates a deep impact on the mindset of human beings to rethink about one’s activities on planet. During this critical situation when most are indulged and involved in finding the causes and solution of the problem, a very different aspect catches my attention and that is effective communication approaches added through innovative techniques by leaders, hundreds of creative people and think tanks whose efforts resulted as information medicine to protect life and economy which is in danger at the time of rapidly increasing Novel Corona Virus (Covid-19). Some of the communication techniques introduced and liked by millions of people around the world are Clapping Act, Banging of Thali at the doorsteps or at rooftops, Lightening of Lamps, Candles, Flash Lights of Mobile Phones, efforts of global leaders along with Video Conferencing by the Indian Prime Minister Mr Modi and the announcement of lockdown to break the chain of the spread of Coronavirus. The research methodology opted to assess these communication channels and its approaches, media sources and innovative techniques is based on observation, interpretation and analysis on primary and secondary phase. As a result, we have seen the control over COVID-19 up-to some extent, the controlled death rate and economy level in positive numbers. The outcome of this paper suggests that the information spread through various effective communication approaches along with media sources works as information medicine to safeguard life on Earth in context with the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is assumed that microfinance through self-help groups is an accelerator of development and change. A self-help group is a voluntary association of 10 to 20 women from the disadvantaged section of the population who come together to save and avail credit from microfinance institutions and banks through a facilitating agency such as NGO. This paper reviews the scope and limitations of self-help groups in having an impact on the economic and social upliftment of its members by focussing on empirical research conducted in the state of Jharkhand and review of existing literature. Majority of the available literature focuses on the economic empowerment of women through microfinance intervention with a minuscule focus on social empowerment through identified social empowerment variables. This study points out that economic empowerment has not translated into desired social empowerment for the beneficiaries of this program. The social empowerment of the marginalized is still a mirage. This paper investigates the reason for the same and the role of communication in gender sensitization and stakeholder participation as communication is a facilitator of social change. It aims towards understanding the linkage of community participation and communication for empowerment and propose suggestions for the same.

With an increase in interest in health communication, there has been a significant rise in mass media campaigns which not only address a wide variety of needs defined by policymakers but also helps them to expand their reach and spread health messages globally. Cinema as an effective form of media constructs and reconstructs discourses on health communication. However, in terms of the quantum of work in this space, the output is meagre. This study uses social construction of reality as the theoretical basis and narrative analysis as the research method to examine the cinematic representation of the Bhopal Gas tragedy, which left an extremely destructive impact on the city of Bhopal (India). It explores how cinema builds narratives around health communication and establishes how a real-world disaster was explored from different angles. The research paper positions the critical need to engage in deeper conversations on health ecosystems through films and locates how other dramatic elements overshadowed the serious engagement with the narrative of health communication.

Visuals and words always create a narrative impact on the minds of the readers. Visual data or infographics enable readers to understand and comprehend complex information effortlessly. In an era of technological development, consumption of information is faster and quicker, and so the storytelling potential of data visualisation narratives is productive. During a global endemic like coronavirus, the mounting fear motivates people to seek accurate and credible information swifter and also change health behaviour accordingly. This paper tries to explore the representation of visualisation of data during the outbreak of global pandemic – COVID-19 for three months – from 1 January to 21 March 2020 in two leading national newspapers – The Hindu and The Times of India. The study identified the percentage of coverage, different levels and types of infographics and message characteristics of infographics. The study found that response and self-efficacy related infographics were primarily less in number compared to severity and vulnerability. Media needs to adorn a robe of „social responsibility‟ especially during a global pandemic like coronavirus, which is sweeping across the globe – as visual message tend to have more impact than the text.
