This article evaluates the current status of criteria development used for classifying dialects in modern English in Great Britain. Traditionally, regional criteria have been utilized, but this study explores the incorporation of urban, professional, and ethnic dialects in addition to rural regional dialects. The paper examines the classification hierarchy, which starts with geographical regions of the south and north and further expands into subzones and counties. Further utilized criteria are related to the type of locality, and it entails analysing the distinctions between dialects spoken in urban and rural areas, as well as migration and ethnicity. The study emphasizes the significance of creating more precise and comprehensive criteria for dialect classification, given the expanding scope of studying dialectal features and the association between dialect and social status.

The article highlights the problem of the theoretical aspect of emotional understanding of the world by preschool children. Emotional understanding of the world in preschool children is considered as an integrated process that determines the child's holistic view of the world and himself in it through emotional connections and experiences. It has been proven that early age is sensitive in terms of mastering the world, forming worldviews, and value attitudes towards oneself and other people. Primitive and complex, positive and negative, primary and secondary, sthenic and asthenic types of emotions are characterized. Common models and structural components of emotions are analyzed. It has been proven that the emotional understanding of the world in preschool children is carried out through emotional images, experiences and states, feelings that arise in certain life situations and are fixed in emotional reactions. It has been investigated that there are four phases of emotion development: cumulation (accumulation, summation), explosion, reduction of tension and extinction. The mechanisms of emotions are revealed: verbal/non-verbal, physiological, behavioral and neural. It has been established that emotions have certain properties in understanding the world, common to everyone, in particular, they are universal, dynamic, polar, ambivalent, intense, subjective, contagion, switching, recall, irradiation, plastic, transfer. The functions of emotional understanding of the world (signal, evaluative, motivational, adaptive, compensatory) are characterized.

This article is dedicated to the analysis of English-language restaurant discourse in the social media platform Instagram. The study of restaurant discourse on Instagram is important due to the growing popularity of social media and their impact on consumers. Restaurants use Instagram to promote their brand and interact with consumers, while users use the platform to discover new dining options and familiarize themselves with dishes and restaurant atmospheres. This article examines the cognitive aspect of restaurant discourse, which includes the analysis of language used to create a certain image and impression of the establishment's brand. Restaurant discourse is explored as a specific type of language used in the restaurant industry to interact between the restaurant and its clients, and can be presented in various forms of speech, such as menus, dish descriptions, advertisements, customer reviews, and conversations between staff and clients. Additionally, this study investigates how restaurants use taste perception and visual impressions to attract the attention of their clients. A qualitative and quantitative analysis of texts was conducted using software for text analysis and statistical data. Using the content analysis method, key words and phrases used in photo descriptions were identified, including delicious, mouth-watering, fresh, homemade, local, authentic, seasonal, tasty, vegan, gluten-free, luxurious, exclusive, intimate, romantic, and friendly. This research on restaurant discourse in the social media platform Instagram will help better understand the impact of social media on consumers and the interaction between restaurants and their clients. This article also closely examines the main trends in the use of social media in the restaurant business and their impact on consumers and restaurants. The study of restaurant discourse on Instagram has allowed for obtaining more detailed information about consumers and their preferences, as well as how restaurants can interact with their clients to improve their operations and develop their business.

This paper is an attempt to survey aesthetic potential of E. Poe’s anthroponomy and to analyse the author’s unique strategy in the process of creating the names of his characters. This study aims at explicating the functioning of literary names in the works of American romanticist and at defining the specific features of their semantic content. The writer worked out theory of musicality within the frames of his own concept of “unity of effect”. Masterly balancing the sounds as figure melodies of a musical staff became the basis of his nomination principle, adding special emotional content both to the name itself and the tale or the poem, mobilizing reader’s emotional intelligence in the process of poetic reception. As a result, several kinds of Poe’s musical devices have been sorted out. Among the most widely used components of writer’s musical approach to anthroponomy are sonority (phonetic musical level); symbolic content of sounds or psychological parallelism (sematic musical level); rhythm (repetition of sounds in the nominative segments, acoustic symmetry); melodiousness (as a tendency towards elegiac, muted beauty); connection with visual arts. The above characteristics became the markers of Poe’s idiostyle, demonstrated the unity of “sound and thought” as a prerequisite for creating new meanings. These factors help to underline the specific features of E. Poe’s aesthetic and philosophical perception. Such an approach may be used for investigation of modern technique in the works of contemporary writers and poets as it helps to delve into some principles of synthesis of Arts in Post-modern paradigm.

The article focuses on the study of grammatical and syntactic peculiarities of translation of English user manuals for household appliances. The study of the instructional text through the prism of linguistics and translation studies is relevant research, since the instruction is directly related to the high-tech process that causes the emergence of new products. This scenario requires further study of the phenomenon. The purpose of the article is to analyze the use of transformations in translation of English user manuals for household appliances into Ukrainian at the grammatical and syntactic levels. The object of the research is the text units of English and Ukrainian user manuals. The study is based on the user manuals for household appliances of such companies as Beko, Indesit, and Philips. During the study, the characteristic grammatical and syntactic peculiarities of the user manuals for household appliances were analyzed. The result of the study is the identification of the most common means of translation of the above-mentioned features. When translating user manuals into Ukrainian, literal translation is mostly often used. Syntactic permutation and sentence fragmentation are most frequently used next. Less frequent way of translating is sentence integration. Moreover, it was found that among the grammatical transformations, the most common are addition, omission and change of a part of speech. Keywords: grammatical features; syntactic features; translation transformations; translation methods; user manuals.

The article is focused on the study of grammatical and syntactic features of the translation of English-language military and political texts. Due to the specific communicative and functional orientation, the specialized language of the military sphere operates within three functional language styles (official, journalistic and scientific). The preference for one of these styles varies according to the topic of communication. The study of the translation of military texts is relevant, considering the Russian war with Ukraine and the tense political situation in Europe. More and more linguists are investigating this kind of discourse. The purpose of the article is to analyze the use of transformations in the translation of English military-political texts at the grammatical and syntactic levels. The object of the research is textual units of English and Ukrainian texts on military and political topics. Military and political articles, books served as the research material. In the course of the study, characteristic grammatical and syntactic features of military-political texts were analyzed. Having analyzed English texts on military and political topics, we conclude that the grammatical level is characterized by the use of transformations, for example, modulation (army artillery – польова артилерія), tracing (avenue of approach), explication or descriptive translation (Air Defense Artillery anti-aircraft artillery), transliteration (NATO), generalization and specification (attack by fire). Regarding the syntactic component, it should be noted that military-political texts are distinguished by the use of simple, impersonal sentences and the use of imperative voice. Keywords: grammatical features; syntactic features; specialized language of military sphere; translation transformations; translation methods; military and political texts.

The main goal of the work is to consider the English-language animated film text “Gravity Falls” directed by Alex Hirsch, to identify the means of intertextuality of humor in it and to point out the peculiarities of their translation. It is emphasized that today, for scientists, the film text is a rich material for study due to its multidimensionality and dynamism, representing the dynamics of socio-cultural development of society in general and language in particular. The concept of intertextuality is based on the belief that all literary works are derived from or influenced by a previous literary work. There is intentional intertextuality, which borrows intentionally from texts, and there is covert intertextuality, where references occur accidentally (the connection or influence is not intentional), since any written text makes intertextuality possible. Some intertextual references are precise lines of dialogue or action, while others are more vaguely referenced. Any work of literature that participates in the creation of a new text is considered intertextual. When translating humorous elements, a specialist must take into account a number of factors. As for the transfer of a comic effect, it is quite a difficult task that requires consideration of various factors. Each language has its own specific linguistic devices for creating comic effect, and it is extremely unlikely that the same devices will be used in translation. That is why it is almost impossible to find a complete equivalent of wordplay or rhyming jokes in another language. The effectiveness of the transmission of the comic effect depends on the degree of coincidence of the background knowledge of the addressee and the recipient. Comic contexts that require awareness of another culture will often be untranslatable using equivalents. All these features greatly complicate the process of translating a cartoon, which is saturated with intertextual elements. Keywords: audiovisual translation; humorous elements; intertext; intertextuality; context; film text; techniques of translation.

The article characterizes the gnoseological component of the British student’s civic identity, which contains a complex of knowledge in various areas, including politics, history, economics, the environment and sustainable development. Three main groups of knowledge are highlighted, among which: knowledge of oneself and critical self-understanding, knowledge and critical understanding of language and communication, knowledge and critical understanding of the world. It is noted that the gnoseological component of civic identity provides knowledge of the surrounding world and oneself in this world in general and in one’s country and community in particular, contributing to successful interaction with other people. It is emphasized that the very concept of democracy is inextricably linked with the concept of “civic identity” in the sense that democratic processes in the state, as a rule, depend on the citizens’ informed and active civic position. It has been found that British educators consider high-quality civic education throughout life as a necessary basis for the formation of the civic identity of an individual. The author summarizes that the formation of the civic identity of students in Great Britain is gaining more and more focus, emphasizing the role of democratic values and human rights in today’s conditions, which are based on the need to support a sustainable society, economy and ecosystems, as well as the practice of a sustainable lifestyle of each person. Therefore, it is important to educate informed, responsible, active citizens who are able to contribute to a peaceful, tolerant, inclusive and safe society. Keywords: gnoseological component; civic identity; civic position; democratic values; knowledge; critical understanding; students of higher education institutions in Great Britain.

Therefore, it is important to educate informed, responsible, active citizens who are able to contribute to a peaceful, tolerant, inclusive and safe society.\u0000Keywords: gnoseological component; civic identity; civic position; democratic values; knowledge; critical understanding; students of higher education institutions in Great Britain.\u0000 \u0000

The article examines the peculiarities of cognitive and translational aspects of studying English and Ukrainian terminology of biomedical engineering. It is noted that the specialized language of such an interdisciplinary field as biomedical engineering contains concepts that concentrate specific knowledge of technical, medical and topically scientific experience. In cognitive linguistics, concepts are considered in connection with the background knowledge. The specialized language of biomedical engineering is presented as a cognitive-communicative organization of concepts, notions and related terms in such highly specialized fields as bioinstrumentation, biomedical cybernetics, biomechanics, system physiology, rehabilitation engineering, diagnosis of diseases and disorders, etc. It is argued that biomedical engineering is primarily focused on the latest advances in technology and medicine to develop new devices and equipment to improve human health. It is emphasized that the linguistic-cognitive analysis of binary specialized texts is a relevant method for compiling thematic highly specialized dictionaries, taking into account the relevance, intensive development of the researched modern field, as well as the fact that information from foreign sources in the theoretical aspect is not sufficiently represented in the Ukrainian translation. Translators should always take into account the following context criteria in the translation process: linguistic context, situational context and cognitive context. Based on the comparative analysis of binary texts – texts of the same genre and issue – the concept “sleep disturbance” is considered as a certain matrix of the terminological base of the concepts of the specified issue and basis for compiling highly specialized thematic mini-dictionaries. Keywords: biomedical engineering; specialized language; concept; term; translation; specialized terminology glossaries;binary texts.
