With Lampedusa in Winter ( A / CH / I 2015) and Fire at Sea (I/F 2016), the Italian and Austrian filmmakers Jakob Brossmann and Gianfranco Rosi more or less simultaneously pursue similar projects: for their cinematic long term observations, both films center on the small Sicilian island of Lampedusa, a focus of mass media interest due to current migration processes and the humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean Both rely on visual traditions of (neo-)realistic cinema in order to avoid documentary cinema's frequently didactic approach Instead of techniques such as voice-over narration and interviews (expository mode), Brossmann and Rossi most notably employ indirect address and contrastive mon tage, thus enabling the audience to experience ’authentic‘ impressions of everyday life on the island (observational mode). At the same time, however, the films themselves are inevitably part of the hype surrounding Lampedusa as the very symbol of the humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean The article analyses how, by means of different intermedial references, the two films situate Lampedusa between everyday life and emergency, between cinematic traditions of the Italian post-war era and their anthropological and metamedial transgression

In their narrative and their essayistic œuvre, Ernesto Sabato and Julio Cortazar display their concern for the solitude assailing modern subjectivities and, at the same time, grapple with the possibilities offered by art – in particular by literary art – to overcome said isolation In El tunel and Rayuela, both authors use the architectonic image of the bridge to illustrate the novel's expressive potential and how it can bridge the chasm between the alienated existences of the 20th century As a literary genre delving into human experience, the novel does not only narrate through the existential abyss, but also becomes a communicating bridge itself

This article focuses on narrative features of Alessandro Manzoni's masterpiece I Promessi Sposi and indicates their relevance for translation The central concern is whether the translation of narrative issues, as parts of the recit, can alter the narrative content of the novel, the histoire, as Genette suggests With reference to examples from Manzoni's work, there follows a discussion of such issues as paratextual features, syntactic aspects, tempus changes, free indirect speech, and forms of address and the way translators have dealt with them in various target languages The rendering of these aspects in translation, which is affected by typological aspects of the respective target language, turns out to have an important impact on the kind of ’story‘ told by the novel and is thus a decisive criterion for translation quality

Le present travail propose une analyse de l'œuvre de Stephane Mallarme du point de vue metaphorique . Il part de la consideration suivante: la notion du »rien« constitue le point de gravitation autour duquel s'assemblent les metaphores centrales qui creent elles-memes d'autres groupes metaphoriques . En ce sens, l'œuvre de Mallarme peut etre decrite comme une carte metaphorique caracterisee par des concretisations graduelles du »rien«, qui se devoilent selon trois champs semantiques principaux: poetologique, erotique et sacre . Nous avons choisi de centrer l'analyse sur le champ poetologique, dont le »rien« se concretise pro- gressivement dans le »blanc«, la »blancheur du papier«, le »poeme aux blancs«, la »plume«, et diverses »creatures plumees« inspiratrices comme »l'ange« ou le »cygne« .

Basandose en una serie de entradas de blog que se publicaron en las semanas despues del LX. aniversario del triunfo de la Revolucion Cubana, este articulo analiza como se conmemora este acontecimiento en la blogosfera cubana y como los bloggers se posicionan frente al discurso mnemonico mantenido por el regimen cubano. Versa sobre la cuestion de saber en que medida las entradas reproducen, modifican o niegan la logica temporal de la version historiografica dominante. Se mostrara que, en la blogosfera cubana, las narrativas genealogico-teleologicas del discurso revolucionario coexisten con figuras temporales alternativas. A diferencia de los medios de comunicacion estatales, la blogosfera cubana abre un espacio virtual en que las versiones diferentes y hasta conflictivas de la memoria de la Revolucion pueden enfrentarse. Este espacio no solo va mas alla de los limites geograficos o territoriales, sino tambien de lo politicamente decible.

This paper deals with the concepts of focusing and diffusion and how they interact in the history of a language; whereas the former implies regularity and stability in the use of the code, the latter refers to a situation of great variability . Some defining moments in the history of the Italian language (the Late Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Unifica- tion of Italy) are here analyzed and discussed in terms of the focusing / diffusion distinction . Moreover, the sociolinguistic situation of contemporary Italian is depicted by fitting these concepts into a Coserian framework, involving such notions as habla (speech), norma (norm) and sistema (system).
