This paper analyzes the critical approach to Aureliano Buendia's battles in the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude. It explores the events related to historic wars and analyzes the satire behind those episodes as they are narrated in the novel. The discussion shows how the effect of the absurd not only shapes a satirical view of the National History, but it also de- velops an acute criticism of war. In addition, the paper poses some ideas about our current wars, taking into account both the notion of »trace« developed by Paul Riceur, and Aureliano Buendia's satire of war.

In diesem Beitrag wird ein texthandlungsorientiertes Analyseverfahren zur sprachwissenschaftlichen Erforschung des Nation Branding in digitalen Medien vorgestellt. Der hier vertretene Ansatz, der eine eklektische Weiterentwicklung verschiedener pragmatischer Text- und Sprechhandlungskonzepte (Rothkegel, Von der Lage-Muller, Brinker) ist, unterscheidet drei hierarchisch angeordnete Handlungsebenen, und zwar Texthandlung oder Textthema (’die in Frage kommende Nation besprechen‘), Teiltexthandlung oder Teilthema (die genaue Realisierung der Texthandlung durch verschiedene sekundare Handlungen, zum Beispiel ’die Lage der spanischen Wirtschaft bewerten‘) und die partielle oder tertiare Teiltexthandlung (eine aus der Sentiment Analysis stammende Kategorie, die Teil- texthandlungen anhand ihrer Polaritat klassifiziert, zum Beispiel ’die Lage der spanischen Wirtschaft positiv bewerten‘). Die Durchfuhrbarkeit des hier vorgestellten Texthandlungskonzepts wird empirisch in einer Pilotuntersuchung zum Bild Spaniens in der deutschen Presse und im sozialen Netzwerk Facebook evaluiert.

More than hundred years after the publication of the first fascicle of Tobler-Lommatzsch in 1915, Richard Baum adds a capstone to the Altfranzosisches Worterbuch by writing the history of the dictionary. This well-documented and personal »tale of inspiration and perseverance« (cf. Leena Lofstedt) is complemented by some observations of the author of this contribution. He had the privilege of accompanying the former editor of the dictionary, the late Hans Helmut Christmann, in the endeavour to continue this centennial work after Erhard Lommatzsch's death in 1975.

Until today the extensive Dante research has rarely dealt with the infernal landscape constructed by the author even though the punitive effects of the four elements fire, water, earth and air are central to the text. This article considers to what extent the hostile nature of hell determined the construction of the first Cantica, even serving as the main protagonist. After starting with the creation of hell, its geological and meteorological conditions will be analyzed. A special focus here is on the suicides, who, through their transformation into plants, not only become part of the natural system themselves, but also refer to the Greek term »hyle« by their designation as »selva« and thus become a primordial matter. The hydrography of the inferno is also considered. Based on the different manifestations of the rivers of the underworld, the question of their terrestrial source is finally examined. Dante's geological and hydrographic systems are based on their own myths of origin. This article identifies scientific models of transmission in both myths. The first, elaborated by Albertus Magnus, explained the various effects of earthquakes, and the other accounted for cartography and negotiations of the geographical center of the earth.

L’article se propose d’analyser, a partir d’une lecture stratifiee de »Le Lion s’en allant en guerre« (V,19), le rapport de Jean de La Fontaine au pouvoir politique. Cette fable se prete a deux interpretations bien distinctes, l’une corroborant le conformisme, l’autre degageant les intentions subrepticement subversives de l’auteur. De ce fait, le texte confronte le lecteur avec la lecon paradoxale que les fables peuvent etre exploitees a des fins differentes, voire contraires. La question »classique« de la critique visant a eclairer la position ideologique du fabuliste presupposait une notion d’utilite du texte litteraire dont on peut douter qu’elle ait ete partagee par La Fontaine lui-meme. La pertinence de la fable pour les temps modernes reside moins dans une critique des structures du pouvoir que dans la reflexion qu’elle suscite sur l’indispensable inutilite de la litterature et de la philologie.

The essay identifies a sub-genre of the eighteenth-century French gazette, the micro-relation de voyage [micro-travelogue], studying it as it appeared in the Gazette de France between 1762 and 1792. I argue that the micro-travelogue should be considered as an integral part of the field of travel writing in this period, as it intervenes in the process of mediation operating between the experiences of travel and the readership. Although usually quite short and written in the impersonal narrative voice proper to the French-language gazettes, these texts contain the major elements of eighteenth-century travel writing, contributing as such to the geographical imaginary of the readers.

Raul Ruiz has long been considered the most important among Chilean film directors. Central to his artistic biography was his childhood in the Chiloe archipelago and the exile in Paris during the Pinochet regime. He produced more than 100 films in both Chile and France and this article characterizes an archipelagic aesthetics comprised of the director's biography and his cinematic thought to analyze his representation of the sea in Les trois couronnes du matelot (1983). Following Gaston Bachelard's sense of the relationship of water to human dreams and subconscious desire, the article advances the argument that the sea in Ruiz's film provided him a spiritual connection to his Chilean homeland, despite the separation of exile.
