Interpreter and translator training has undergone important changes. Methodologies centred on the teacher (i.e. “apprenticeship approach”, in interpreting or the method “who takes the next sentence?”, in translation) have slowly given way to situated approaches which foster higher cognitive processes in authentic situations. The advances in the pedagogy of translation and interpreting have led to the progress of two communities looking for the consolidation of strong investigative traditions. The aim of this paper is to propose a retrospective of the development of interpreters and translators training and to propose some ideas to adapt that training to the “digital natives” ways of learning.

The objective of this article is to present the evolution of the didactics of translation and the pedagogical approaches that have been taken, as well as to suggest perspectives for research. It begins by outlining the evolution of translator training and research on the didactics of translation. It then describes the characteristics of the research carried out to date, presenting the approaches taken in two broad categories, specifically transmissionist, teacher-centred and product-oriented approaches; and student-centred and process-oriented approaches. Next, the article deals with the areas on which research has focused. Lastly, it looks at curriculum-related challenges in translator training, the most pressing needs where research is concerned, and the methodological challenges and problems research must tackle.

Translation continues to reinvent itself. Different human actors and non-human actants drive this change, generating new forms of translation and diverse professional profiles. Audiovisual Translation (AVT) and Audiovisual Translation Studies (AVTS) have always been at the centre of these developments: AVT has been technology and industry-driven from the start and AVTS has incorporated technological and societal change as well as the forces that propel it from its inception. Meanwhile, AVT has incorporated media accessibility and has moved beyond the domain of audiovisual media in the strict sense into the provision of access to live cultural events. The present article offers some conceptual tools for understanding these developments as well as the actant-driven processes that underlie them. It traces recent developments in AVT and explains how they have given rise to the aforementioned new professional practices and profiles. It ends on an extensive case study, centring on the ACT European Erasmus+ project, which has identified and defined the emerging profile of the accessibility manager, and developed a tailor-made MOOC training course for it.

The figure of the professional translator as a new has aroused little interest on the part of researchers in information science. However, in the area of knowledge of translation and interpretation, translator’s behavior in and for the media has been considered a field of research. The media coverage projected on a profession is essential for the creation of a public opinion and the way it becomes visible will influence the consideration given to those who practice it. In order to know this consideration, we have compiled all the news including the word “translator” which appeared in the headlines of four of the newspapers with the largest circulation in the Spanish State published in 2017. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the corpus will enable us to extract data to elaborate a study on the informative treatment of translator in press.
