This case highlights focus on business process outsourcing solutions with Acclaris. Due to recent growth, this company is rethinking its own strategy of outsourcing their intranet. They are exploring three options to ensure that their technology strategies will continue to be aligned with their organizational goals. These options include continuing to outsource with Internets.com, purchasing/leasing their own server, or moving toward a portal solution.

This case study describes the implementation of a novel information system that facilitates automation of business processes. The novel system enables managers to design and develop their own processes into the system (with little or no help from technologists). As a result, information flow is greatly enhanced because managers understand the business and the associated processes. The CEO has a vision to transform the organization to more effectively track activities so that it can double in size within the next few years.

This case study describes the lifecycle of CyberGold, a start-up Dot Com firm that rose to prominence in the world of online currency and micro-payments. The case describes the inception of the firm, the talent base of its senior executives, and its innovative and patented business model, known as Attention Brokerage. The case focuses on a specific decision problem faced by CyberGolds team of senior managers early in its lifecycle: how to modify the companys business model and communication with its members, in order to encourage repeat visits to its site and to provide a clearer understanding of where CyberGold credits may be spent by members.

The Kendell case illustrates issues of IT governance in the airlines industry. The case is written using the corporate collapse of Kendell’s parent company Ansett Australia as the background. The case also explores the potential issues facing the re-established company now called Regional Express (REX) and how to implement the lessons learned.

The focus of this case study is a successful regional law firm (an information intensive enterprise) that integrates information technology to improve the timeliness and quality of their work product. The firm uses information technology as an efficient and productive tool allowing them more time to understand their clients needs and envision where their businesses will be tomorrow. Their information services professionals evaluate new technologies with an eye toward improving delivery of legal services: the goal is to build an atmosphere where complex business is handled with ease. In this case we explore the issues related to the implementation of an enterprise portal. The issues are both technological and behavioral.

This case study describes experience of a larger general hospital in the Netherlands in the implementation of a personnel management system Beaufort. The case shows clearly that there are variations in users behaviors and acceptance of the new system in the two phases due to differences in technical and human issues. IT implementation processes are described in detail within the context of a decentralized organization.

This case study describes the experience of a not-for-profit research institution, serving the public interest, in developing several intelligent and innovative prototypes for law enforcement. The design and implementation of two intelligent search agents, and one facial recognition prototype is described in detail. Our experience in delivering these prototypes, as well as integrating them into several law enforcement agencies is also described.

The case study describes the issues surrounding the development and global rollout of the Intranet-based Knowledge Management System (KMS) HRbase at Deutsche Bank. It sets the stage for a decision situation that Deutsche Banks Global Head of Human Resources (HR), Heinz Fischer, faced in 2001. Based on low usage rates and ambiguous feedback from his 15 most senior HR executives, he had to decide about HRbases future: it would either be funded from an earmarked budget in 2001, changed significantly, or discontinued. Meanwhile, the responsible project manager Hilger Pothmann and the HRbase project team understood the necessity to turn the project around and to come up with a proposal for technical improvements and a sound change in management strategy. The case description provides a chronological account of the planning, development, and global rollout of HRbase, paying specific attention to project management issues, change management interventions, and the global cross-cultural challenges that emerged.
