The paper discusses links between bilingualism and creativity. It begins with a theoretical introduction and then presents research results based on the Creative Behaviour Questionnaire KANH–I (Popek 2000) in a group of 107 high school students. The obtained data was used to test group differences between attendees of classes learning German bilingually and their peers following standard curriculum, which yielded no significant results. The correlation analysis between bilingualism and the dimensions of creative behaviour according to KANH–I yielded no significant results as well. Finally, possible explanations of the results are discussed, along with the limitations of the present study.

The aim of this article is to explain the various aspects of the right to culture within the obligations contained in the ECRML. The presentation discusses the issues of cultural products, institutions, participation, linguistic landscape and intangible heritage. Consequently it is clear that the cultural dimension is present across various domains of public life covered by the Charter because its fundamental objective is to foster minority culture as part of life of a community, rather than just an aspect of folklore to be displayed in a museum.

The aim of the paper is to describe selected features of nonverbal behaviors defined as adaptors during cartoon narration by children and adults. Ten nine-year-old children and ten adults took part in the study. The results of the analysis of the material showed that: 1. children used more adaptors than adults, 2. the average time confessed to the production of adaptors by children was longer than by adults, 3. children more often than adults produced two co-occurring adaptors of different types.

The objective of the present article is to analyse the influence of the organisation Translators Without Borders on the status of its volunteers: translators and community interpreters. The first chapter concerns main aspects of the translator's status. The second one presents briefly the types of Translators Without Borders activities, while the next one focuses on the characteristics of the types of translator's and interpreter's work for the organization. The last chapter includes the analysis of the translator's and interpreter's status aspects that are susceptible to impact of the described organization’s activities. Conclusions are ambiguous as the main reason of the Translators Without Borders foundation was not to improve the translator's status. However, membership may be beneficial under certain conditions.

The article deals with translator’s dilemmas in the context of picturebooks on the example of the new translations of the French classic “Le Petit Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Given the intermedia character or illustrated books for children, their translation is a very demanding task. It requires ‘visual literacy’, the ability of ‘reading’ and understanding pictures. The way, in which the translators cope with the interplay between the verbal and the visual, so essential for picturebooks, allows to discern their translation strategies. The examined examples point out the discrepancies between domesticating translation and the original illustrations and also the impact of new illustration on the target text. The example of Hans Magnus Enzensberger shows to what extent the original illustrations can be a disruptive factor in adapting translation, so that the only solution is to ignore the intermedia character of the source text. Such manipulation results in the empoverishment of the text. In the case of Peter Sloterdijk his demand for new illustrations can be considered as a consequence of the re-contextualization, that can be observed in his translation.

Intercultural differences in discourse patterns have been considered the most important cause of communication problems. It is less certain if these differences are relevant for talk participants in handling communication problems in intercultural interactions. The aim of the case study presented in this paper is observing if talk participants orient to intercultural differences in discourse patterns and what knowledge of these differences they have. I use ethnomethodological approach in analyzing the interaction of Polish students with their Chinese interlocutor. The interactions is an interview conducted in English as a lingua franca. I also conduct an ethnographic interview with the Polish speakers to study their knowledge concerning communication problems which appeared in their interactions with the Chinese speaker. Analyzing the ethnographic interview as interaction, I focus on the content co-construed by the interview participants.

The main purpose of this article is to explain the procedure of identifying the utterances of praise using the Reactive Speech Genre Strategy (RSGS). The RSGS is one of the steps of a wider strategy dedicated to identification of “Praise” speech genre. In the article are described 5 stages of RSGS, which include considerations over: the initiative nature of “Praise” speech genre; the role of the reactive nature of “Gratitude” speech genre in identifying the “Praise” speech genre; the analysis of selected speech genres associated with “Praise” and “Gratitude”. The linguistic corpus consists of selected utterances of positive assessment taken from the Polish version of a television talent show “Mam talent!”.
