In the following paper, we study the apodotic function of the conjunction e in the language of medieval translations of the Hebrew Bible. This particle has been recognized as a transliteration or a tracing of the apodotic waw of Hebrew and it acts as a reinforcement in apodosis of some bipolar sentences as the conditional structure. Our aim is to provide objective data with regards to the bibles and discursive contexts most sensitive to the transliteration of this idiomatic rule. In addition, we make contrasts with medieval translations from the Vulgate, and with sixteenth century translations, Biblia del Oso and Biblia de Ferrara. In short, the analysis leads us to clarify the idea that the presence of the conjunction e in conditional apodoses is a mere exercise of idiomatic tracing.

Maria Belisarda’s Book of poems is one of the first works of convent feminine literature that features the characteristics of modern literary subjectivity. This paper studies the different strategies through which authority is constructed in the paratexts of the book, as well as the poetic representation of the author’s literary personality.

To demonstrate the authorship of the Gramatica de la Lengua Vulgar de Espana, we rely on the following points: the use in Furio Ceriol’s El Concejo i Consejeros del Principe (Antwert, 1559) of the orthographic rules proposed in the Gramatica; the denomination of the Castilian or Spanish language as the ‘vulgar’ language of Spain, in the same work of Ceriol; the linguistic ideas contained in the Gramatica and in Ceriol’s Bononia; the rhetorical organization of the Gramatica; and finally, the comparison between the dedicatory poem in the Gramatica and these ones in the works of Furio Ceriol.

This paper aims at reconstructing the historical dialectological areas of denominal parasynthetic verbs prefixed with a- and their suffixed counterparts (acepillar vs. cepillar, amasar vs. masar) proceeding from the geographic distribution in the Corpus Oral y Sonoro del Espanol Rural (COSER). With the establishment of the court in Madrid (1561) the new norm will pattern the social stratification of these verbal derivatives. The combination of modern dialectal data with the analysis of historical records enables us to shed light on the linguistic history of phenomena obscured by standardized written language.

The gender distinction in personal names is a challenge that we approach from three structural features: their length, their termination and their accent pattern. Using two different repertoires and applying statistical tests, we observe significant changes in the evolution of personal names: there is a process of gender disambiguation, which especially affects the repertoire of female anthroponyms.

This paper presents the textual and editorial problems that the most complete testimony of the Castilian translation of the Decameron has: the printed version that appeared in Seville (1496). His study shows new details about the lost translation, allows us to clarify some ideas that have not been well raised by critics and to suggest certain hypotheses of their textual transmission.
