As electric drives slowly replace passenger cars and light special vehicles, electric drives in the heavy-duty road sector have started to emerge. As for off-road vehicles, there is some effort to reduce the amount of fossil fuel used. In this study, the series hybrid application for a heavy-duty tractor is investigated. Work conditions are described using modified worldwide transient vehicle cycle to evaluate the efficiency of an energy management system applied, as well as the overall vehicle performance and efficiency. As a result, in some test scenarios, smaller-than-expected energy outputs were identified and new ways to improve energy management were found.

Stainless steel could be treated as the main material used to construct various means of transport, including mobile platforms and tank trucks. An austenitic steel known as 316L steel (1.4401) has high resistance to atmospheric corrosion, natural waters, water vapor, alkaline solutions, and acids, even at elevated temperatures. This steel is weldable, although it is also prone to various types of welding cracks. Many factors influence the quality and mechanical properties of a joint. The most significant of these is the appropriate selection of welding parameters, which should be determined precisely and separately for each type of sheet, depending on its thickness and geometric features. The aim of the present article is to study the influence of main TIG (Tungsten inert gas) welding parameters on the creation of proper joints used in the construction of mobile truck platforms or tank trucks. The proper selection of parameters enables the production of welds with good functional properties. A novelty of this article is the proposal to weld each layer of a thick joint with different parameters, which has an important influence on the mechanical properties of the joint. It is expected that the new material and technological solution will yield a joint with good corrosion resistance and increased mechanical properties. This is important in the responsible construction of means of transport, using the example of mobile platforms and tank trucks. Different tests verifying the properties of joints, including non-destructive testing, tensile strength tests, and fatigue tests, as well as a hardness probe, were applied.

Dangerous goods (DGs) not declared for transport as required by the regulations can give rise to risks, as they can endanger public safety or the environment. This study explains the risks posed by undeclared shipments by providing information about the most common undeclared DGs aboard aircraft and maritime ships, legal frameworks regulating the proper transportation of DGs, and key mechanisms for preventing the occurrence of undeclared DG shipments. This paper identifies the responsibilities of each stakeholder involved in the process of DG transportation. The main objective of this paper is to reveal human errors and dishonest techniques within the supply chain when DGs are transported by air and sea.

Currently, many European cities have severely exceeded the EU air quality standards and are struggling with high concentrations of fine particulate matter PM10 and PM2.5 in the air, with road transport often being one of the major polluters. One of the forms for correction of the problem that many cities in the EU are currently using is the construction of low-emission zones. For the prediction of PM10 and PM2.5, a modified numerical method for a system of ordinary differential equations has been proposed. In the right part of this system, in addition to the main trend and the periodicity of PM10 and PM2.5, their correlation is taken into account. Against the background of the best solution obtained, a forecast is made for the emission levels in a period of one week in the town of Ruse.

This article presents the results of a study of an alternative method for reducing friction losses in the cylinder-piston group of internal combustion engines based on an experimental installation, taking into account changes in the real state of the working surfaces of the mating parts of the piston ring-cylinder pair depending on the operating time. The factors with a progressive effect on the operation of engine friction units as they wear out are studied, and the degree of their influence on wear is estimated. A model of the friction unit of a cylinder-piston group (piston-piston ring pair) of an internal combustion engine based on a solid antifriction material operating without the use of a lubricating fluid is developed and investigated. Comparative results of determining the wear indicators of sealing rings by various methods of wear control are presented. A method for predicting the resource and the real state of the engine is proposed.

This article investigates the impact of a passenger car on a tree, which resulted in the car body breaking apart. A side impact of the car on a tree at high driving speeds is not a standard test in the provisions of the applicable Directives of the European Economic Community, even though the impact poses a serious threat to the driver and the passengers. The threat comes from a deep impaction of the barrier into the body which damages the safety cage. For such impacts, it is very difficult for the vehicle speed to be reconstructed. In practice, expert witnesses and appraisers usually disregard the body-breaking-apart-related energy due to a difficulty in establishing the data for such calculations, which leads to simplifications and speed underestimates. Performing the right simulation of such impacts with accident reconstruction programs without determining the adequate input data for calculations is also impossible to calculate. This paper presents a range of studies and calculations for such incidents and for identifying the input parameters for collision simulations. The approach presented in this article should be used by expert witnesses and researchers. Therefore, this paper provides insights into theory and practice.

In recent years, the transport mode choice of students of higher educational institutions has become a subject of increasing interest. Investigating the modal choice of students, who form a considerable section of the population, is crucial for sustainable urban transport planning and understanding the quality of life of students. Reviews of previous studies have indicated that hilly cities in less developed countries are neglected in transportation studies. The present paper investigates the travel behaviour of non-local, off-campus college students in Aizawl – a fast-growing hilly city in northeast India. The study found that transport mode choices are influenced by interrelated factors, including socio-economic background, demographic, availability of transport mode and location of housing. It was also found that walking and public buses are the most preferred modes of commuting among the studied college students. Female students who rent houses near their colleges are more likely to walk than their male counterparts. On the other hand, male students belonging to high-income families tended to travel by private vehicles from their residences, which are located relatively far away from colleges. The study argues for the enhancement of the intake capacity of residential hostels inside the campus to improve the growing transport problem of off-campus students in the city.

The visualisation of resources is becoming an increasingly important factor in the operations of crisis management teams. The efficiency of crisis management processes depends on the possibility of data exchange between crisis management teams and people within the range of expected and actual threats. An important part of the information provided to people is the description of the condition of the transport system. The authors of this work carried out comparative analyses of visualisation standards in terms of a selected transport system for six selected countries and organisations. Based on the survey results, they managed to assess the functionality and usability of the visualisation of the Polish transport system. This research was based on a modified model of assessment of software functionality and usability. Methods of determining the functionality and usability of a transport system visualisation can help crisis management teams assess the suitability of IT tools for use in mass notification systems. The literature on this subject lacks a scientific analysis of the Polish method of the visualisation of the transport system. Therefore, this study will clearly fill this research gap.

The number of road traffic accidents in the world has been increasing. This is mainly related to the constant increase in road traffic. The aim of this article is to examine the causes of road accidents in Poland in terms of road traffic safety. For this purpose, road incidents that occurred in Poland were analysed. In order to verify the presented statistical data on the state of safety in Poland, a survey was carried out to indicate the factors that most often cause traffic accidents. Possibilities for increasing the efficiency of traffic safety and an evaluation of the level of safety in vehicles were also part of the survey. The results showed that the state of RS, in the opinion of the respondents, is poor. The respondents correctly indicated the most frequent causes of road accidents, which confirms their knowledge in the field of road safety. The survey also showed that the activities of the police and programmes for increasing safety need improvement. According to the respondents, the actions that should be taken to improve safety are, first of all, the improvement of the technical condition of roads and the modernisation of road infrastructure. In addition, the survey showed that most men are car drivers, while women primarily travel on foot; the results also showed that the knowledge of RS is better among women.

The Constantine tramway line in Algeria has many variables that can be analysed to assess the impact of the line. These variables include social ones, such as the rational supply of transport between different modes of travel, the place of people with reduced mobility in the supply and interior and exterior design. Moreover, the economic variables that are the most dominant in relation to its importance in the development of the economy of the city are the reliability and comfort made to the regularity of the transport time in relation to time savings and intermodality at stopping points. To this end, this article examines these different variables during several commissioning periods in order to determine the impact of the introduction of the tramway line in the Constantine metropolitan area. Its approach is carried out through a field survey, interviews and on-site observations with a population made up of users of different travel modes. The results confirm that the tramway line linking the city of Constantine and the new town of Ali Mendjeli has a strong effect on ridership. On the other hand, its effects seem minimal in terms of rational supply and intermodality between different travel modes. Meanwhile, reliability and regularity are topics that deserve to be explored. The accessibility of people with reduced mobility is considered a primary objective of the tramway system.
