Purpose

This paper aims to determine the type of supplier involvement in terms of time and extent of supplier involvement in automobile product development based on the characteristics of parts in the Iranian automotive industry.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper proposes the clustering and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) methods. Combining the K-means clustering method and metaheuristic algorithms, the genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm are applied to achieve better clustering results.

Findings

The results show that lack of internal knowledge, high technology change and complexity of parts increase the need to outsource the design process. In addition to these reasons, high development costs and high interface complexity justify suppliers’ early involvement.

Originality/value

Most research only presents a conceptual framework for understanding the various levels of supplier involvement in new product development (NPD). However, in the automotive industry, numerous parts have differing degrees of importance and priority, and experts may have varying opinions based on different criteria. Therefore, the existing conceptual model for analyzing the types of involvement of each supplier is not practical. We have formulated a problem-solving approach that utilizes the clustering and AHP methods to analyze data obtained from qualitative research and determine the type of supplier involvement.

<h3>Purpose</h3><p>This study aims to investigate the effects of three significant events – the 1994 CFA currency depreciation, the 2008 Global Financial Crisis (GFC), and instances of political coups – on the relationships between FDI inflow, economic growth, and governance within the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) countries. It seeks to evaluate how these events influence the linkages between FDI, economic growth, and governance, to aid the understanding of responses to external shocks and internal political disruptions.</p><!--/ Abstract__block --><h3>Design/methodology/approach</h3><p>The study employs a panel Vector Autoregression (VAR) analysis using data from 1990 to 2019 by exploring the dynamic relationships among FDI inflow, economic growth, and aggregate governance indicators within the CEMAC sub-region. The analysis was conducted utilizing the EViews software package, facilitating robust examination through the introduction of the Bayesian VAR to facilitate the interpretation of parameters and the data.</p><!--/ Abstract__block --><h3>Findings</h3><p>The results indicate that, contrary to initial hypotheses, growth and governance do not emerge as determinants for attracting FDI within the CEMAC sub-region. However, governance stands out as a crucial determining factor for economic growth. Furthermore, the study suggests that the 1994 CFA currency depreciation, the 2008 GFC, and instances of political coups did not significantly impact FDI, growth, and governance within these countries. Despite the potential vulnerability of the CEMAC countries to external shocks, the effects of these events on the dynamics of FDI, economic growth, and governance were not apparent. Notably, political instability, as evidenced by coups, emerges as a significant factor shaping the interactions between FDI, growth, and governance in CEMAC countries.</p><!--/ Abstract__block --><h3>Research limitations/implications</h3><p>These findings have significant implications for policymakers and stakeholders in the CEMAC countries. Understanding that governance has a central role in driving economic growth places great importance of prioritizing governance reforms to foster sustainable development. Unbraiding the effect of policy benefits on subjective well-being: the mediating role of work-related well-being 解除政策福利对主观幸福感的影响:与工作相关的幸福感的中介作用

Purpose

This piece of research attempts to find out the association between work-related well-being (WWB), benefits of scheme (BoS) and subjective well-being (SWB). The study was conducted on handloom weavers in Uttar Pradesh (UP), India.

Design/methodology/approach

The association among the variables was studied using structural equation modeling on Amos 22. The tripartite relationship of WWB, BoS and SWB was explored using causal steps approach. Bootstrapping of a sample size of 2,000 was performed. A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 403 weavers, and convenient sampling was done.

Findings

A direct link was found by the structural equation modeling (SEM) results between benefits of schemeBoS and SWB, which was reflected by a value of rˆ2 (0.33) at significance level p < 0.001. The standardized indirect effect of BoS on SWB was found to be 0.158 (p < 0.001). In the presence of WWB, the relationship between BoS and SWB (direct effect) stands significant, thus making this a case of partial mediation. The value of Rˆ2 is increased to 48.1% in presence of a mediating variable.

Research limitations/implications

The study indicated the importance of WWB and how it can enhance SWB.

Originality/value

The relationship between SWB, WWB and policy benefits has still not been explored.

Purpose

The purpose of the present study was to develop a measurement model to identify sources of resistance to change (RC) based on a previous systematic review.

Design/methodology/approach

The sample comprised 121 participants (faculty, students, graduates, and employees). Twenty-three items were assessed in four distinct stages: observation, exploration, confirmation, and communication. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis ensured the validity and reliability of the measurement process.

Findings

The final 14-item model consisted of four groups: “Personalities averse to change”; “Limited participation in the change process”; “Dominant sociocultural predisposition”; and “Weak managerial commitment to change.”

Practical implications

It is hoped that the study will encourage further diagnostic examinations and assessments of the structural relationships associated with RC.

Originality/value

The present study expands our understanding of RC source typologies, the majority of which have focused on the individual and the organization. Higher education institutions bear a responsibility to initiate change to align with evolving environmental demands, but their endeavors are often subject to obstacles and delays stemming from individual and collective influences. To manage efficiently the conceptualization, planning, implementation, and management of change initiatives, we must comprehend and assess the primary sources of RC within such institutions.

Assessment of bus fleet service quality: a graph theoretical approach 公交车队服务质量评估:图论方法

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to develop a framework for the assessment of service quality of bus fleet services based on the service quality influencing factors. The paper also tries to evolve a quantitative measure for fleet service quality in the form of a fleet service quality index.

Design/methodology/approach

A graph theoretical approach is employed in this paper for bus fleet service quality assessment. Modelling of fleet service quality factors and their interrelations with due attention towards their structure is achieved through graph theory. A directed graph (digraph) of the service quality is developed, where its nodes represent factors influencing the quality while its edges show the degree of interrelationships. A matrix, which is equivalent to the digraph, is established that will generate a service quality function that will result in the development of a fleet service quality index (FSQI).

Findings

Attaining customer satisfaction through assurance of quality is the cornerstone of the existence and survival of any business organization, and bus fleet services are no exception to this. Several influential factors are there for the bus fleet service quality. This research paper has identified factors such as fleet management practices, operational characteristics, safety and reliability features, travel comfort, bus maintenance and environmental concerns that affect fleet service quality. Every factor is composed of distinct sub-factors. Furthermore, these factors are linked with one another. A higher value of the fleet service quality index indicates the adequate performance of the bus fleet service organization.

Practical implications

The methodology is useful for not only evaluating but also for comparison of service quality of different fleet agencies or organizations. The perceptions would be useful to the fleet service managers to create procedures and arrangements for improving the service quality.

Originality/value

The paper identifies various service quality factors of the bus fleet and an evaluation scheme for those factors has been developed. Based on these, a framework had been developed for the assessment of the service quality of different fleet service providers.

Purpose

With today’s increasing globalization and associated growing demand for talented operations managers, human resources management (HRM) in operations management (OM) has emerged as a top priority for firms. However, a thorough analysis of HRM issues in operations domain has not been made so far. The study presents current status of interaction, collaboration and coordination between operations and HRM and importance of coordination that helps in improvising the outcomes of the organization.

Design/methodology/approach

Operations management consists of employees responsible for creating highest level of efficiency and productivity within the organization. The initial studies on HRM and OM put forward strong arguments that the coordination between the departments happens to be at a low level, whereas, strong effective interaction, collaboration and coordination is required between both the departments to positively bring forth the organizational outcomes. A study on sample of 257 with descriptive research design was conducted. Out of 257, the valid 228 responses were used for testing of model and analysis.

Findings

The findings of the study conclude that the operations department employees should be in constant touch with their human resource partner. The overall organizational performance and productivity improve and strengthen when there is good interdepartmental coordination between operations and HRM. Employee job satisfaction and work life balance remains appropriate when there is proper synchronization between the departments. The study recommends organizations should work upon better integrating the team such that there is strong synchronization, mutual understanding, harmony, proper communication and information flow between the HRM and OM.

Originality/value

Coordinated efforts and working of both the teams helps in bringing out more productive results, thereby contributing positively to the overall success of the organization, employee satisfaction and better productivity.

PurposeStrategic integration of enablers and the realization of drone delivery benefits emerge as essential strategies for business organizations to enhance operational efficiency and stay competitive in last-mile logistics. This paper aims to explore the benefits of drone-based last-mile delivery in the Indian logistic sector by providing a framework for ranking drone delivery benefits (DDBs) due to the adoption of its enablers.Design/methodology/approachThis study proposes a novel hybrid framework applied in the Indian logistic sector by integrating a sentence boundary extraction algorithm for extracting benefits from literature, a spherical fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (SF-AHP) for evaluating primary enablers, unsupervised fuzzy C-means clustering (FCM) for clustering benefits and a spherical combined compromised solution (SF-CoCoSo) for ranking benefits with respect to primary enablers.FindingsThe results reveal that technological and infrastructure enablers (TIE), government and legislation enablers (GLE) and operational and service quality enablers (OSE) are the most significant enablers for drone implementation in logistics. Top-ranked benefits increase the efficiency of last-mile delivery (DDB10), foster supply chain management and logistic sustainability (DDB16) and increase delivery access to rural area and vulnerable people (DDB17).Practical implicationsThis research assists scholars, entrepreneurs and policymakers in the sustainable deployment of drone delivery in the logistics sector. This study facilitates the use of drones in delivery services and provides a foundation for all stakeholders in logistics.Originality/valueThe assessments involve considering judgment from a highly knowledgeable and experienced group in India, characterized by a large volume of inputs and a high level of expertise.

Motivation-oriented factors of women entrepreneurship: mediating role of challenges 妇女创业的动机导向因素:挑战的中介作用

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the effect of push, pull, balanced, and emotional factors on the motivational level of female entrepreneurship in Haryana state, India.

Design/methodology/approach

A quantitative study was conducted in Haryana's five districts among 384 women entrepreneurs using a convenience sampling method with a structured questionnaire. This study used structural equation modeling (SEM) to test the hypotheses.

Findings

The study found that Push, Emotional Factors, and Challenges have a significant impact on the motivational level of women’s entrepreneurship and Challenges only mediate with the Push and Pull factors.

Research limitations/implications

Generalization of results based on data from a few districts of Haryana state in India. A cross-sectional study was performed as a Longitudinal study helps in analyzing the changing character of women entrepreneurs and the prime reasons behind their success. Non-probability sampling technique was used in the study whereas probability sampling technique promotes reliability and reduces systematic error and sampling bias.

Practical implications

Pull factors can be promoted through mentoring, counseling, and entrepreneurship training programs. Creating a conducive external environment with job security and financial support from external agencies is essential. The Government of India should take the necessary steps to reduce the hindrances faced by women entrepreneurship while raising funds through banks and financial institutions.

Originality/value

The study employed a mediating variable, challenges, to investigate the impact of factors on the motivational levels of women entrepreneurs. To the best of our knowledge, this approach has not been utilized in previous research, making the current study a novel contribution to the field.

Purpose

This study aims to identify the strategic factors and their effects on the post-cross-border acquisitions (CBA) technological innovation performance of the acquiring firms. It develops a hierarchical model to examine the interrelationship between identified strategic factors such as strategic flexibility, strategic ambidexterity, environmental dynamism, etc.

Design/methodology/approach

This study uses modified total interpretive structural modeling qualitative methodology (m-TISM) to develop a hierarchical model and conducts a Matrice d’impacts croisés multiplication appliquée á un classment (MICMAC) analysis to show the interrelationship between strategic factors affects the acquirer’s post-CBA technological innovation performance. It determines the autonomous, dependent, linkage and independent strategic factors. It further uses comparative case analysis to empirically examine the strategic factors in real-time CBA situations.

Findings

This study shows the m-TISM-based hierarchical model highlighting the interrelation, level of autonomy, dependence and linkage among strategic factors affecting the acquirer’s post-CBA technological innovation performance. It suggests that strategic factors such as environmental dynamism, R&D competence, innovation capability and technological capability are largely autonomous and have significant driving power, whereas strategic ambidexterity and strategic flexibility are the connecting factors. post-M&A integration is the governing factor for technological innovation performance in CBA.

Research limitations/implications

The strategists and practitioners could evaluate the key strategic factors having significant driving power for strategy formulation and implementing efficient policies. By implementing the m-TISM model acquiring a firm’s post-CBA performance can be enhanced. Future researchers might utilize quantitative methods like regression and structural equation modeling in the CBA context.

Originality/value

This study uses a novel m-TISM and MICMAC approach to identify the driving and dependent factors affecting post-CBA technological innovation performance. It further provides a detailed theoretical and conceptual understanding relating to the philosophy and establishes an interrelation amongst these under-researched strategic factors in CBA.

It further uses comparative case analysis to empirically examine the strategic factors in real-time CBA situations.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Findings</h3>\u0000<p>This study shows the m-TISM-based hierarchical model highlighting the interrelation, level of autonomy, dependence and linkage among strategic factors affecting the acquirer’s post-CBA technological innovation performance. It suggests that strategic factors such as environmental dynamism, R&amp;D competence, innovation capability and technological capability are largely autonomous and have significant driving power, whereas strategic ambidexterity and strategic flexibility are the connecting factors. post-M&amp;A integration is the governing factor for technological innovation performance in CBA.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Research limitations/implications</h3>\u0000<p>The strategists and practitioners could evaluate the key strategic factors having significant driving power for strategy formulation and implementing efficient policies. By implementing the m-TISM model acquiring a firm’s post-CBA performance can be enhanced. Future researchers might utilize quantitative methods like regression and structural equation modeling in the CBA context.</p><!--/ Abstract__block -->\u0000<h3>Originality/value</h3>\u0000<p>This study uses a novel m-TISM and MICMAC approach to identify the driving and dependent factors affecting post-CBA technological innovation performance. Purpose

Efficiency and quality are primary factors for the survival of health systems. The evaluation of the efficiency of the healthcare system is a crucial component of promoting long-term health policy actions. Healthcare capacity indicators provide a basis for evaluating and comparing the performance of different healthcare organizations. Intrinsic quality indicators are Donabedian (1980)’s structural and process elements of quality of healthcare. This study aims to integrate capacity and intrinsic quality indicators of healthcare while measuring the efficiency of provinces by using radial and non-radial efficiency measurement techniques.

Design/methodology/approach

Efficiency analysis performed in Turkey from 2015 to 2020 by performing input-oriented radial, nonradial, and super-efficiency estimates for 81 provinces of Turkey by incorporating capacity and intrinsic quality indicators into the different model specifications.

Findings

Radial and nonradial efficiency results have an increasing trend over the study years obtained from the efficiency models showing high average scores obtained from the models that include intrinsic quality of care indicators. Statistically significant mean rank differences are observed between different radial efficiency models for all study years (p < 0.001). Negative and moderate level correlations were observed between radial efficiency results and quality of care indicators (r < 0.70).

Originality/value

Under long-term centralized health policies, increases in efficiency result in decreased intrinsic quality of care indicators. A better synthesis of health system capacity and intrinsic healthcare quality indicators is necessary to generate evidence-based health systems.
