The present-day stress, societal changes, and hectic life make the quest for mental and physical well-being. The market for yoga tourism has been growing ever before. Ashrams and Gurus are vital aspects of Yoga tourism. These religious gurus are functional celebrities with millions of followers and franchises worldwide. Gurus are inextricably linked to the global popularisation of Yoga, and they have the potential to be more convincing than government initiatives since they travel to and through more nations and establish personal contact zones between multinational groups. To this end, this study examines the significance of religious gurus as celebrities in promoting Yoga tourism. This research utilized a qualitative interpretive approach by the application of Netnography. The findings emphasize the substantial role of religious gurus in tourists’ motivation, behavioral intentions, destination attachment, and ashram selection. The study also connects the search for authenticity in the well-being tour with the pleasant tourism experience that Yoga ashrams offer.

Ancestral Homeland Attachment
IF 1.7 Q2 HOSPITALITY, LEISURE, SPORT & TOURISM Pub Date : 2022-06-14 DOI: 10.37741/t.70.3.8

This study examined how ancestral homeland journeys affected a sense of attachment to Thailand among first- and second-generation Thai diasporas residing in Western countries as well as how these two generations differed in their place attachment. The four dimensions of place attachment (place identity, place dependence, social bonding, and affective attachment) were used as a framework for the investigation. A qualitative research approach was adopted in this study. Twenty-two Thai migrants currently living in Western countries who had visited Thailand were interviewed. The findings showed that diaspora tourism experiences helped these migrants reflect upon their sense of belonging to their ancestral homeland, leading them to feel more connected to the country. The first-generation tourists demonstrated a higher level of place attachment to Thailand than the second generation in all four dimensions of place attachment.

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely disrupted the global economy, particularly the tourism sector, thus making the interplay of pandemics and tourism a prominent topic of research. This paper aims to provide an overview of scientific research on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism and determine future research directions. The main research questions are: 1) Which research topics related to the impact of the pandemic on tourism have been addressed? 2) What are the bibliometric characteristics of published papers on these topics? 3) What are the directions for future research within this field? A qualitative method was applied to obtain answers by analyzing the scientific papers published between March 2020 and March 2021. By applying the PRISMA protocol, a total of 33 relevant articles were identified, which were subjected to bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer, and finally, content analysis was conducted. Thereby, the following key research areas were distinguished: the impacts and consequences of COVID-19 on tourism, the transformation of tourism and post-pandemic recovery strategies, the changes in behavior from the travelers' perspective, and the issues from the perspective of tourism enterprises. Based on the analysis, new research directions are proposed.

Significance of Air Transport to Tourism-InducedGrowth Hypothesis in E7 Economies

The study seeks to examine the significance of the tourism-induced growth hypothesis from the perspective of air transportation among seven emerging (E7) countries, including China, India, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Indonesia, and Turkey. The combined impact of energy consumption and globalization was also factored into the analysis in order to draw cogent implications for environmental quality as energy demand in E7 economies continues to rise amidst growing urbanization in recent times. The study leverages on second-generational panel data estimators, namely cross-sectional autoregressive distributed lag, augmented Mean Group, and Dumitrescu-Hurlin Causality techniques. Having established a long-run equilibrium relationship among the outlined variables, the result validates the pertinent role of air transport in enhancing economic growth as a percent rise in airline passengers' arrivals significantly enhances growth in the E7 economies by 0.77%. In addition, the feedback causality between the variables also strengthens the pivotal roles of air transport in economic growth, thereby giving credence to the tourism-led growth hypothesis (TLGH) in the E7. However, there are detrimental environmental implications for the E7 when considering the causal nexus between economic growth and the dynamics of carbon-inducing energy consumption among the countries. Hence, investments in clean energy and transport infrastructures are recommended to ensure a sustainable environment where the tourism industry can flourish.

Because of its fragile structure, tourism is a sector where tourist arrivals fluctuate, and competition is high. Tourism demand is changing rapidly according to many different factors. Most of the tourist arrivals to Turkey are from European countries. This paper analyzes the relationship between tourist arrivals from countries of origin and basic macroeconomic variables in the period between 2010-2020. The study, which uses the Autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) boundaries testing approach, shows that tourist arrivals interact with key macroeconomic variables such as exchange rate and unemployment rate. This situation reveals the necessity of eliminating dependence on certain countries in the tourism sector and turning to different markets.

Hotel employees are at increased risk of infection with SARS-Cov-2. Therefore, governments have taken many systematic measures to protect employees and employers (hoteliers). Since previous studies have almost entirely overlooked hotel employees' perspectives on the pandemic, this study determines how heterogeneously Slovenian hotel employees perceived the disease and their own work during and after the health crisis. The Two-Step and K-Means clustering methods were used to identify clusters of respondents. The One-way ANOVA with post hoc Tukey's HSD test was employed to verify the significant differences among groups/items. The sample included 301 completed questionnaires. A three-cluster solution with statistically significant differences was identified. Cluster 3, the largest, is particularly interesting, as its members are the most pessimistic of all. In contrast, Cluster 1, which is much smaller, included the most optimistic members (plain optimists). Cluster 2 is also interesting, as its members tend to be more extroverted – expressing the highest psychological burden and pessimistic views about the future provision of hotel services. Managers should provide clear instructions, education/training, tighten control, and do everything possible to prevent oversensitivity and excessively defensive responses that could hinder operational work.

Airline Service Failure
IF 1.7 Q2 HOSPITALITY, LEISURE, SPORT & TOURISM Pub Date : 2022-01-31 DOI: 10.37741/t.70.2.8
Chong Kuok Wei, A. A. M. Ariffin
This study aimed to investigate the impacts of causal attributions (controllability, stability, and locus of control) and failure severity on the behavioral intention of passengers in the context of airline service failure. This study also extended the causal attribution theory by incorporating failure severity as another explanatory variable. Furthermore, all the above direct relationships were also expected to be mediated by brand attitude. Essentially, this study attempted to address the issue of the desire of passengers to fly again with the affected airlines and the extent to which they will recommend it to others. This study employed purposive sampling and a questionnaire survey that involved 518 respondents as the main data collection method. All hypotheses were tested using Smart-PLS. The findings revealed that only controllability and failure severity exhibited direct impacts on behavioral intention, whereas stability and locus of control indirectly affected behavioral intention through the mediator of brand attitude. The findings also indicated that brand attitude was a full mediator in the relationships between stability and behavioral intention, as well as between locus of control and behavioral intention.

This study aims to investigate how the coronavirus has resulted in harmful effects on the tourism industry and how it has most likely shaken the common traditional practices that the industry had followed for years. With a chronological order, this is a case study focusing on personal observations and also personal communication with hoteliers and retailers commencing from the early weeks to the end of 2020 in Turkey. The study has resulted in the categorization of risks, challenges and responses under 10 parts. The study also provides implications for the literature and the industry at the business and destination level altogether.
