Does Being an Environmental Citizen Lead to Greater Well-Being? The Self-Determination Theory Approach 作为环境公民会带来更多福祉吗?自我决定理论方法

In this study, we examine a potential model based on the Self-Determination Theory, which explains how environmental citizenship and connectedness to nature could be associated with subjective well-being through the satisfaction of basic psychological needs. A convenience sample of 172 adolescents from three Lithuanian schools with a mean age of 15.4 years was gathered (40.1% male, 51.7% female, and 8.1% who preferred not to answer). The tested model showed reasonable fit indices: CFI = 0.941, TLI = 0.928, NFI = 0.913, RMSEA = 0.104 [0.090–0.119], SRMR = 0.073 and χ2 (98) = 281.532, p < .01, and could explain approximately 41% of the variance of subjective well-being. The results show that pro-environmental actions taken by environmental citizens in the private sphere can have a positive impact on mental health as pro-environmental behavior satisfies basic psychological needs.

Why Do Small Restaurant Operators Intend to Terminate Their Relationship with Food Delivery Apps During Covid-19 Pandemic? 为什么小型餐馆经营者打算在 Covid-19 大流行期间终止与送餐应用程序的关系?

This study investigates the factors influencing restaurant operators’ intention to terminate their relationship with food delivery apps. This research develops a model with key variables based on the loyalty theory and adds variables reflecting the specific context of the food delivery app market. The face-to-face survey of 128 restaurant managers was conducted in South Korea from Oct 1st to Oct 30th, 2020, and the data obtained were analyzed by SEM. The results showed that distrust is a direct antecedent of their intention to terminate. However, there is no significant relationship between dissatisfaction and that intention. Revenue increase is negatively associated with dissatisfaction, whereas exposure opportunities are positively associated with dissatisfaction. The fee paid for food delivery apps, lack of control of delivery service, goal incongruity, and transparency are shown to be the important determinants of distrust. Our findings will enhance the understanding of the food delivery app market in South Korea and the relationship between the food delivery app and the small restaurant. Based on the results, recommendations for prospect research and theoretical and practical implications are presented.

Awareness and Utilisation of Natural and Mineral Resources in Selected Communities of Southwest Rural Communities of Nigeria 尼日利亚西南部农村地区部分社区对自然资源和矿产资源的认识和利用情况

Nigeria is often described as a land flowing with milk and honey in reflection of the rich endowment of natural and mineral resources embedded in the country. Sadly, few of its people have benefited from these abundant resources as a large percentage of its population remains poor, particularly in rural areas. Hence, this present study assessed the awareness and utilisation of the natural and mineral resources in 24 selected southwest rural communities. The study adopts the mixed method to elicit responses from rural and urban respondents in four of Nigeria’s southwest states. Findings from the study revealed a high level of awareness of available resources in rural communities but gross underutilisation of the resources. The study concludes that the available resources in the southwest rural communities if tapped into, could transform the rural economy and ameliorate the level of underdevelopment in those areas. The study recommends that the government at all levels needs to recognise the rural areas as the fulcrum of national economic development and should be given utmost priority regarding infrastructural provisions and adequate funding.

Environmental Debates in the Media: The Case of Hardrock Mining in Arizona and Energy Transition Dilemmas 媒体中的环境辩论:亚利桑那州硬岩开采案例与能源转型困境

This article delves into the debates, both in print and digital media, surrounding copper mining and its associated concerns, particularly those related to hardrock mining. Guided by agenda-building, pragma-dialectics, and stakeholder theories, this research employs topic modeling to scrutinize the media strategies and arguments employed by key stakeholders involved in an environmental movement. The aim is to unveil implicit communication activities that contribute to the emergence of public debates, shedding light on the nuanced dynamics within stakeholder discourses. The analysis shows that by referring to authoritative arguments, the local press distributes the places of power while representing conflicting standpoints and arguments. With digital media, the opponents build a pro-environmentalist network to publicize the issues relative to the mining project and the importance of defending southwestern habitats and landscape. Mining proponents similarly rely on business communities to underscore the importance of hardrock mining for things like decarbonized energy and modern living. Across groups, stakeholder communication situates differing conceptions of the relationship between humans and their natural environment. Our findings reveal that, consistently across various groups, the discourse maintains a degree of stability as topics and arguments persist over time. On one side, discussions highlight the destructive impacts of mining, while the opposing perspective underscores the significance of sustainable and resilient mining practices. This analysis of stakeholder discourses in the media helps uncover the various ways primary actors maintain their positionality and power in this particular case.

Cooperative Promotion and Wholesale Price Discount Incentives in a Closed-Loop Supply Chain with Dynamic Returns 具有动态回报的闭环供应链中的合作促销和批发价格折扣激励机制

The closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) focusing on product recycling is getting more and more attention. The question of how to motivate CLSC participants to implement product recycling effectively has come into focus. We study the optimal strategy of a two-echelon CLSC under different incentive mechanisms, characterize the return rate in the form of a state equation for its dynamic behavior and construct a closed-loop supply chain dynamic model. Subsequently, we discuss two incentives—the cooperative promotion incentive and wholesale price discount incentive—based on the no-incentive game and investigate the optimal strategy, steady-state return rate, and revenue of each CLSC player in the three scenarios. Then, the choice of incentives by manufacturers and retailers under different scenarios is determined by comparative analysis. The results indicate that retailers always favor the cooperative promotion incentive. For manufacturers, the wholesale price discount incentive is more advantageous only when the recycling efforts outperform retailers’ promotion efforts in unit cost. In most other cases, the cooperative promotional incentive is more popular since it will generate more revenue for each participant and the entire supply chain. Moreover, there is a Profit-Pareto-improvement region when the CLSC implements the cooperative promotion incentive.

The Impact of Knowledge and Trust on COVID-19 Vaccination Intention: Analysis of a Population Group with Low Incentives to Vaccinate in Spain 知识和信任对 COVID-19 疫苗接种意愿的影响:对西班牙疫苗接种积极性较低人群的分析

Young people, as a group, are not strongly incentivised to vaccinate against COVID-19, given how the disease affects them. To discover the factors which help increase people’s intention to take the COVID-19 vaccine, using a variety of dimensions to measure Knowledge (K), Trust (T), the Health Belief Model (HBM), and the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) in Spanish university students as a collective. We analysed the proposed models using multiple-regression analysis, incorporating the variables of the constructs in a hierarchical manner, introducing them in the following order: TPB, K, T. HBM was excluded, given that no significant statistical relationship was found. The data used for the study are drawn from an anonymous questionnaire put to 3,542 students at the University of Salamanca (Spain). Our model accounts for 43.1% of the variance in vaccination intention. Neither severity nor susceptibility, which are fundamental constructs in the health belief model, have an impact on vaccination intention for this group of people. The Theory of Planned Behaviour accounts for 32.1% of the variance. Interesting mediating effects are discovered, indicating that knowledge lowers levels of trust in the Government, but increases trust in scientific experts. Both types of trust have a positive impact on vaccination intention. Messages based on the risk of contracting the disease do not appear to be effective incentives for this group of people to take up the vaccine. Information campaigns need to be transparent and rigorous. This does not mean that they need to go into great depth on a technical level; however, it is advisable that the information come from trustworthy scientific experts.

To discover the factors which help increase people’s intention to take the COVID-19 vaccine, using a variety of dimensions to measure Knowledge (K), Trust (T), the Health Belief Model (HBM), and the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) in Spanish university students as a collective. We analysed the proposed models using multiple-regression analysis, incorporating the variables of the constructs in a hierarchical manner, introducing them in the following order: TPB, K, T. HBM was excluded, given that no significant statistical relationship was found. The data used for the study are drawn from an anonymous questionnaire put to 3,542 students at the University of Salamanca (Spain). Our model accounts for 43.1% of the variance in vaccination intention. Neither severity nor susceptibility, which are fundamental constructs in the health belief model, have an impact on vaccination intention for this group of people. The Theory of Planned Behaviour accounts for 32.1% of the variance. Interesting mediating effects are discovered, indicating that knowledge lowers levels of trust in the Government, but increases trust in scientific experts. Both types of trust have a positive impact on vaccination intention. Messages based on the risk of contracting the disease do not appear to be effective incentives for this group of people to take up the vaccine. Information campaigns need to be transparent and rigorous. Populism’s Influence on News Content: Polarization, Political Parallelism, and Journalistic Professionalism in Rafael Correa’s Ecuador 民粹主义对新闻内容的影响:拉斐尔-科雷亚领导的厄瓜多尔的两极分化、政治平行和新闻专业主义

This article investigates how populism in power influenced news media in Ecuador during leftist president Rafael Correa’s presidency (2007–2017). Correa’s administration triggered a bold media reform in Ecuador challenging traditional media and promising media democratization, but his government received sharp denunciations from press freedom and media organizations which considered Ecuador as a “not free” country, especially after the passing of a Communication Law in 2013 that regulated media extensively. Through content analysis of news and opinion pieces published in 2005, 2006, 2015, 2016, and 2018 by Ecuador’s main legacy newspapers, El Comercio and El Universo, different legal and political contexts are examined. The main observations suggest an increase in polarization and improvements in journalistic professionalism, two results consistent and divergent to mainstream academic approaches and public discussions about populism. This contradictory situation may be explained by the emergence of a new political parallelism, absent before Correa came to power, which combines consistent stances based on the rejection of Correa’s leadership, with an improvement in professional practices, especially when Correa was in power. These results, and novel approach adopting a detailed content analysis to explore the relationship between populism and journalism in a Latin American media system, may contribute to a better understanding of the influence of populism on news media. This study calls for more comparative and longitudinal analyses in different media systems and populist experiences, focused on the connection of professional practices and political positioning, with or without populist actors in power.

CEO Overpower and Real Earning Manipulation in Family Businesses: Do Ownership Structures Matter? 家族企业中的首席执行官权力过大和实际收入操纵:所有权结构重要吗?

Our study is the first to analyze the influence of CEO power and ownership structures on earning manipulation. This study also clarifies whether different ownership structures discourage powerful CEOs from manipulating earnings in family businesses. The sample data is a balanced panel with 985 observations of 116 family businesses in Vietnam from 2005 to 2020. We primarily employ the dynamic system Generalized Method of Moments with cross-sectional fixed effect to overcome endogeneity and heterogeneity issues. Our findings indicate the negative relationship between CEO power and earning manipulation. Higher state or institutional ownership restrains powerful CEOs from manipulating earnings in family businesses. However, Powerful CEOs in family businesses with higher participation of blockholders increase the earning manipulation. Our robustness results show that CEOs from 50 to 70 years old reduce earning manipulation the most in family businesses. Our findings support agency theory, stewardship theory, resource dependency theory, monitoring and accountability theory, legal framework theory, reputation theory, monitoring theory, Maslow’s need hierarchy, and prior literature. Our study contributes practical policy and management implications to sustainably reduce earning manipulation in family businesses.

Masculinity and Violence Interconnectedness: Defining and Reconciling the Gender Paradox Among Men With Cumulative Lifetime Violence Histories 男性气质与暴力相互关联:界定并调和有终生累积暴力史的男性中的性别悖论

Among men, gender and views about violence contribute to how men, and others, identify and respond to violence and related outcomes. Despite this, little is known about men’s perspectives regarding gender/masculinities and cumulative lifetime violence (CLV) exposure. Using the qualitative method of Interpretative description, the complex relationship between gender and violence for men who have experienced CLV was explored. Interviews with thirty-two men who experienced CLV revealed a complex interrelation between masculinity and violence (MV interconnectedness). This intricate connection is difficult to separate due to persistent normalization and acceptance of violence. Because violence is one way that men live up to pressure to ‘be a man,’ MV interconnectedness positively contributes to men’s sense of self. However, MV interconnectedness also contributes to significant harm. The contradictory nature of MV interconnectedness and the tension that arises when men contemplate the link between gender and violence was labelled ‘the paradox’. As men grapple with the paradox, and the ways that gender and violence have influenced their lives, they are able to move toward disconnecting violence from how they define themselves as men. The paradox is a significant addition to the understanding of how men may reject the narrative that masculinity and violence are interconnected. MV Interconnectedness demonstrates that the link between masculinity and violence perpetration is not straightforward. Normalization and acceptance of violence calls for efforts to counteract the messages and pressures boys and men receive that influence their behaviour.

The Effects of Strategic Orientation on Mass Customization Capacity in Iran: The Mediating Role of Intellectual Capital 战略导向对伊朗大规模定制能力的影响:智力资本的中介作用

This study attempts to explore how Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO), Customer Orientation (CO), and Technology Orientation (TEO) affect Mass Customization Capacity (MCC) where the Intellectual Capital (IC) is considered as a mediating variable in this model. Considering that MCC equips companies with the agility, integration, and resource flexibility needed to thrive in a dynamic business landscape, this is the first study which aims to contribute to the dynamic capability theory and resource-based view by developing new conceptual model which incorporates IC as a competitive resource of the firms. This is also the first study that aims to develop a conceptual framework by adding TEO as a key dimension of strategic orientation in order to improve MCC. While prior studies have explored the independent effects of these elements, this work unveils how a firm’s strategic direction can influence the effectiveness of its intellectual capital in bolstering its ability to deliver customized products. This novel framework provides deeper insights into how firms can strategically leverage their intellectual assets to achieve success in the dynamic landscape of mass customization. Cross-sectional data were collected from 175 Iranian manufacturing firms. The Confirmatory Factor Analyses (CFA) is used to check the validity of the multiple-item measures and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) is applied to test the research hypothesis. The results indicated that EO, CO, and TEO have a positive and significant effect on MCC. It is also found that IC partially mediates the relationships among all dimensions of strategic orientation and MCC. Our findings suggest that a company with higher intellectual capital can improve MCC by choosing the best type of strategy according to the industry in which they are active. Insights from findings also enable policymakers to design policies that encourage innovation in production processes and technologies, investing on research & development in relevant technologies or infrastructure projects that support efficient MC logistics and create regulations that protect consumer data and encourage sustainable practices within MC processes.
