Comparison of a Nintendo Wii balance board with a laboratory-grade force plate on measurement of transitional movements 任天堂Wii平衡板与实验室级力板在测量过渡运动方面的比较

The aim of this study was to verify whether the Nintendo Wii-Balance-Board was valid and reliable for assessing sit-to-stand and return-to-sit tasks by comparing it with a gold-standard force plate. Ten elderly (age = 78.21±14.82 years; males=4; females=6) and eleven young (age =24.25±12.43 years; males=6; females=5) participants of both genders performed five sit-to-stand and return-to-sit tasks consecutively by placing their feet on the Wii-Balance-Board; after two days of rest, they repeated the same assessment. The Wii-Balance- Board was positioned over the force plate to concurrently acquire the vertical component of ground reaction forces. Relevant kinetic and temporal parameters were estimated from these signals. Both the Wii-Balance-Board and force plate measurements resulted in a high level of correlation for almost all the parameters (Pearson’s product-moment r ranged from 0.91 to 0.99, p<.001) and, for the same parameters, intra-class correlation coefficients revealed a high level of agreement between the devices (ranged from 0.93 to 0.99). Bland-Altman plots and regression analysis detected systematic and fixed biases for two parameters (i.e., the inclination of force in standing and rising), while other parameters resulted with none systematic biases; the absolute magnitude of those differences was trivial or small (standardized biases ranged from 0.01 to 0.4). A high level of intra-device reliability was measured for all the parameters (intra-class correlation coefficients ranged from 0.85 to 0.99). The Wii-Balance-Board proved valid and reliable in comparison with a force plate for assessing transition movements so it can be considered a valuable solution for supporting the assessment procedures of average practitioners.

How does bodysymmetry influence standing balance? 身体对称如何影响站立平衡?

The aim of the study was to determine whether maintaining the standing balance position is influenced by athlete’s symmetric morphological characteristics. Thirty-two healthy sports students participated in this study (age 19.8±1.4 years, body height 182.9±6.8 cm, body weight 79.1±8.1 kg). Morphological characteristics are represented with differences between the left and the right body side of: forearm girth, upper arm girth, calf girth, thigh girth, long shoulder height, lean mass of legs and lean mass of arms. The standing balance result was calculated as a result of factor scores for 9 measurements of 30 seconds (3 measurements of normal standing, 3 measurements of blind standing, and 3 measurements of deaf standing) collected from the pressure insoles system and the difference in ground reaction force between the left and the right leg. Results show that the asymmetric leg load in maintaining standing balance depends on the side differences in the thigh girth and upper arm girth. The greater difference in the thigh girth in favour of the left side resulted in bigger ground reaction force on the right leg compared to the left leg and the greater difference in the upper arm girth in favour of the left side resulted in bigger ground reaction force on the left leg. To avoid one side overload, it is essential for all sports activities to be performed bilaterally.

Effect of self-determined motivation in physical education on objectivelymeasured habitual physical activity 体育自主动机对客观测量习惯性体育活动的影响

Grounded in the trans-contextual model, the purpose of the presentstudy was to examine the role of self-determined motivation in Physical Education(PE) on self-determined motivation in Physical Activity (PA), PA intention, andaccelerometer-measured habitual PA behavior among high-school aged adolescents.A sample of 394 Spanish high-school students (211 males and 183 females; aged12-16 years) participated in the present study. The outcome measure of PA was establishedusing accelerometry, whereas motivation toward PA and PE as well as PA intention were measured usingvalidated questionnaires. Path analyses supported inpart the central propositions of the trans-contextual model. Self-determined motivationin PE predicted the self-determined motivation in PA (β=.45, p<.001, R2=.26).Self-determined motivation in PA predicted PA intention (β=.51, p<.001, R2=.41).The predictive strength from PA intention to behavior was weak (β=.11, p=.011,R2=.21) with a statistically non-significant mediational model from self-determinedmotivation in PA via PA intention to PA behavior (β=.28, p=.231). This weak-to-non-significant relationship does notfully support the previous findings that have shown the feasibility of thetrans-contextual model in charting the pathways from self-determined motivationin an educational context to behaviors in an out-of-school context.

Effects of concurrent eccentric overload and high-intensity interval training on team sports players’ performance 同时进行偏心超负荷和高强度间歇训练对团队运动员成绩的影响

The aim of the study was to compare the effects of an in-season five weeks of high-intensity training (HIT) with a concurrent HIT eccentric overload training (CT) program on male amateur team-sports players’ fitness performance. Twenty-two athletes were randomly assigned to HIT (n=10) or CT (n=12). Both groups completed a HIT program. The CT group also completed two-three sets of six repetitions of eccentric overload training. Before and after training, performance was assessed for change of direction ability (COD), repeated sprint ability for best time (RSAb), mean time (RSAm) and slowest time (RSAs), jumping, and shuttle-run performance. Within-group analyses in both groups showed substantial better scores on COD, RSAb and RSAm and shuttle-run performance. Between-group analyses showed greater improvements in COD, RSAb, RSAm, RSAs, and jumping after additional CT compared to solely HIT. In conclusion, compared to HIT alone, concurrent eccentric overload and HIT training within the same session improved COD, RSA, jump, and shuttle-run performance in basketball and soccers amateur players.

The purpose of thisstudy was to evaluate the functionality, accuracy, and usability of a novelsmart exercise application (SEA). The functionalitysuch as counting lunges, providing task-related auditory feedback, and testingshort-term memory was examined while thirteen young adults (six men, age25.4 ± 8.3 years) performed the lunge exercise with theSEA. The accuracy of logged motion data including angles and accelerations werealso tested. Another twenty-five participants (11 men, age23.2 ± 5.7 years) evaluated the usability of the SEA interest,motivation, convenience, and strength/cognitive benefit viaa questionnaire. The SEA assessed the lunge motion correctly, provided auditoryfeedback, and tested users’ short-term memory as required. High correlations (r= 0.90 to 0.99) with low RMSE (4.85˚ for direction angle, 0.13 to 0.22 m/s2for acceleration) were observed between the sensor output and thereference output. Bland-Altman plot also showed a low discrepancy between eachof the two measures. Most participants positively answered all questions about interest(60%), motivation (40%), convenience (80%), strength benefits (92%), andcognitive benefits (88%) of the SEA. The SEA demonstrated accurate kinematicassessment of accelerations and directions, assessed the lunge motioncorrectly, and created the appropriate auditory feedback on the short-termmemory task. The high rate of positive responses suggested the potential of theapplication in future use.

This investigation examined the interactive effect of body-weight(BW) exercises and vibration on cardiometabolic responses. Fourteen subjects performeda BW exercise protocol with (BW+V) and without (BW‒V) vibration in a randomizedorder. The BW exercise protocol consisted of three circuits of eightcalisthenics-based exercises including prisoner squat, push-up, isometricsquat, reverse dip, lunge, flutter kicks, isometric lunge, and T push-up. Vibratoryfrequency and amplitude were set at 40 Hz and 4 mm, respectively. Oxygen uptake(VO2), heart rate (HR), expired ventilation (VE), andblood lactate [La] were determined during the protocol and 30-minute recovery. Themean VO2 reached 48% and 50% of VO2max and the mean HRreached 80% and 83% of HRmax in BW‒V and BW+V, respectively. During theprotocol, while the mean VE was greater (p=.031) in BW+V than BW‒V,no differences were seen for VO2 and HR between the two conditions. Duringrecovery, while mean VO2 was greater (p=.002) in BW+V than BW-V, nodifferences were seen for VE and HR between the two conditions. [La]values were significantly elevated but remained similar between the twoconditions. Exercise-specific VO2 was higher during the prisonersquat (p=.003) and isometric squat (p=.042) in BW+V than BW‒V, while no differencesin VO2 were observed for all other exercises. Performing threecircuits of eight BW exercises in a rapid-and-intense manner produced asufficient increase in cardiometabolic responses. Metabolic potentiationassociated with combining vibration with BW exercises seemed to be influencedby how the exercises were carried out on a vibration plate.

Key game indicators in NBA players’ performance profiles NBA球员表现档案中的关键比赛指标

The aim of the present study was to identify and describe players’ performances in NBA games using individual and team-based game variables. The sample was composed by 535 balanced games (score differences below or equal to eight points) from the regular season (n=502) and the playoffs (n=33). A total of 472 players were analysed. The individual-based variables were: minutes on court, effective field-goal percentage, free-throws/field-goals ratio, offensive rebound percentage, turnover percentage and playing position. The team-based variables were: team points minus opponent’s points (on and off court), NET score (player’s on values minus his/her off values), maximum negative and positive point difference, team’s winning percentage, game pace, defensive and offensive ratings. A two-step cluster analysis was performed to identify the player’s profiles during regular season and playoff games. The results identified five performance profiles during regular season games and four performance profiles during playoff games. The profiles identified were mainly characterized by the game quarter and the negative NET indicator (players’ performance on court minus their performance off court) in regular season games and the positive NET indicator during playoff games and second and third game-quarters. Coaching staffs can fine-tune these profiles to develop more team-specific models and, conversely, use the results to monitor and rebuild team formation under the constrained dynamics of the game and competition stages.

Physical activity, approach-avoidance temperament and depressive symptoms 身体活动,回避接近的气质和抑郁症状

The goal was to assess the connections betweenvigorous physical activity (VPA), approach-avoidance temperament and depressivesymptoms. Two studies were conducted. Study 1, correlational, to assess the mediating role of both dimensions oftemperament, approach-avoidance contrast, between physical activity anddepressive symptoms. Participants, 335college students, completed the International Physical ActivityQuestionnaire, the Depressive Symptoms Scale (DSS) and the Approach-AvoidanceTemperament Questionnaire (Ap-AvTQ). Results showed that approach-avoidance contrast could be considered apotential mediator between VPA and depressive symptoms. The global model was significant, F(2, 351)=3.22, p<.001, R2=14.91%,R2 adjusted=14.42%, and the bootstrapped upper and lower limits didnot contain zero with the lower limit at -.05 and the upper at -14, suggesting a connection between VPA and depressivesymptoms mediated by the approach-avoidance contrast temperament. Study 2,longitudinal, to test if a physical activity program could produce changes inapproach-avoidance contrast temperament, manipulating the depressive symptoms.A VPA program was conducted with 149 college students. Participants completedthe DSS and the Ap-AvTQ. The true intraindividual change modeling technique, amore direct approach to modeling interindividual differences in intraindividualchange without using a control group, showed that participants’ depressivesymptoms were predicted through the mediation of the approach-avoidance contrast temperament (γ=-.36, p<.001). VPA was positively linked to theapproach-avoidance contrast temperament that was negatively connected todepressive symptoms, and negatively linked to the approach-avoidance contrast temperamentthat was positively connected to depressive symptoms. It seems possible toinfluence depressive symptoms through approach-avoidance contrast temperamentusing VPA.

Olympic and Paralympic Games Rio 2016: A technical-tactical analysis of judo matches 2016年奥运会和残奥会:柔道比赛技战术分析

The purpose of this study is to compare the athletes’ scores, penalties and efficiency between of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Rio 2016, and identify which variable determines the winner of the matches. A total of 608 matches in the Olympic and Paralympic Games were analysed. Total relative scores (ippon, wazari and yuko), penalties (shido per match) and efficiency were identified in the categories male and female, Olympic and Paralympic Games, and medallists and non-medallists.  The main results showed that the wazari was higher in the Olympic Games (p = 0.05) than in the Paralympic Games (male team); the ippon was higher in the Paralympic Games (p = 0.05) and the shido was higher in the Olympic Games (p = 0.05) (female team). The male Olympic medallists were more efficient (p = 0.01), while the female Paralympic medallists were less punished (p = 0.01). The ippon was the key variable that determined winning in both Olympic and Paralympic matches (p < 0.001). We concluded that male Olympic athletes showed greater efficiency and scores than Paralympians, while the female team presented more scores and fewer penalties. The ippon was the key point that determined victory in most of the matches.

The aim of this study was to compare the physiological, mechanical and perceptual responses to two sprint interval training (SIT) sessions with very short vs. long sprints, and to verify if those differences could be reflected in measures of acute fatigue. Eleven physically active men performed, after the maximum oxygen consumption (VO(2)max) determination, SIT5s (16x5s with 24s of recovery) and SIT20s (4x20s with 120s of recovery) in random order on a cycle ergometer. Physiological, mechanical, and perceptual responses were evaluated during and after the sessions. The countermovement jump (CMJ) height and autonomic control of heart rate (HR) were evaluated before and after the sessions. Diet was also controlled through recall questionnaires. During the training, SIT5s exhibited greater HR, VO2, power output, and total work (TW) (p .05). A faster HR recovery (HRR) and a higher CMJ height were observed after the SIT5s (p .05). Some correlations between the mechanical and physiological responses were revealed only in the SIT5s. SIT5s was demonstrated to be more efficient as exhibited by greater mechanical responses associated with a higher aerobic activity, when compared to the volume-matched SIT protocol of longer sprints. Simple monitoring tools such as HRR and CMJ could help practitioners to detect differences in acute fatigue after different SIT sessions.

The countermovement jump (CMJ) height and autonomic control of heart rate (HR) were evaluated before and after the sessions. Diet was also controlled through recall questionnaires. During the training, SIT5s exhibited greater HR, VO2, power output, and total work (TW) (p .05). A faster HR recovery (HRR) and a higher CMJ height were observed after the SIT5s (p .05). Some correlations between the mechanical and physiological responses were revealed only in the SIT5s. SIT5s was demonstrated to be more efficient as exhibited by greater mechanical responses associated with a higher aerobic activity, when compared to the volume-matched SIT protocol of longer sprints.
