The aim of this paper is to identify, through the discourse, the managerial sustainable behaviors that lead to both financial and extra-financial performance. Under the prism of alignment and instrumental theories on corporate social responsibility (CSR), we investigate the moderating role of CEOs by examining the interrelation between CEOs’ introductory discourses in sustainability reports and financial and extra-financial performance. Through the use of a logit model and textual analysis, we conduct a longitudinal analysis on firms listed on the S&P500 between 2014 and 2019 in three sectors. We find that CEOs’ discourse is interrelated with financial and extra financial performance. Their discourse is a key factor in understanding whether CEOs’ CSR strategies meet the main sectorial strategic issues.

This paper demonstrates the impact of the participation of corporate venture capital (CVC) funds and independent venture capital (IVC) funds in syndicated investments. We examine the dynamics of the impact of these syndications and the channels (industry fit and location fit) that improve innovation effectiveness. Based on the main sample of 5182 US. funded companies between 1998 and 2017, there is strong evidence of an existing superiority of CVC engagement in syndications (CVC/IVC) that can further boost the innovation output contribution. Additionally, the results show that industry and location fit augment the innovation output of the entrepreneurial companies.

This paper seeks to understand how owner-managers’ perceptions of environmental changes led them to adapt their business model (BM). Drawing on 43 interviews with independent pharmacist in Belgium (19) and Italy (24), we demonstrate how some owner-managers focus on their macro-environment leading them to consider environmental changes as a threat. They feel they are unable to adapt their BM or only provide minor adaptation. However, some owner-managers focus both on their micro and macro-environment, sometimes beyond the traditional pharmacy sector, to identify opportunities. They then extricate themselves from the constraints perceived in the environment to proceed with significant BM innovation by building a specific ecosystem.

This systematic literature review shows that similarities and divergences emerge between entrepreneurs, whether they are disabled or not. First, some reasons leading to entrepreneurship, as well as factors inherent to business creation and development, are common to all entrepreneurs to varying degrees of intensity. Secondly, disability and the needs it creates can indeed be motivating factors for entrepreneurship, even if some support is needed at different stages of the entrepreneurial process in order to facilitate the transition to action. Recommendations and avenues of research are explored in the conclusion.
