Bouncing back or bouncing forward? Tourism destinations’ crisis resilience and crisis management tactics 反弹还是向前反弹?旅游目的地的危机抵御能力与危机管理策略

In recent years, the tourism literature has demonstrated a growing interest in the concept of resilience and its implications for travel and tourism. However, the research of resilience in tourism is still in its early stages and there are many challenges ahead. In response to these challenges, the current study examines how tourism destinations are practising recovery and resilience in the face of crisis, using case study analysis of global destinations overcoming a crisis: France, Turkey, Russia, Korea, Belgium and Egypt. The results of the study indicate the use of both crisis management practices and tourism resilience tactics by these destinations. Taking the perspective of the resilience theory, the findings of the study demonstrate that, following a crisis, destinations will focus on re-orienting the tourism system and regenerating tourism growth. These responses include investment in infrastructure and facilities, product development, market development and conduct structural reforms. The outcomes of the study contribute to the understanding of resilience tactics and its practices by global destinations, and shed a new light on the relations between tourism destinations, tourism crisis and tourism resilience.

Volunteering with elephants: Is it a way of moving towards global citizenship? 与大象一起做志愿者:这是一种走向全球公民的方式吗?

This study examines the nature of European volunteer tourists’ experiences at Elephants World, Thailand as well as whether and/or to what extent such experiences foster a sense of global citizenship among them. It used an interpretive paradigm and a qualitative research approach. The informants included 21 volunteer participants from European countries. A combination of semi-structured interviews and participant observation was used to gather data. Data were then analysed via a thematic analysis technique, revealing that the experiences of the volunteer tourists were a mixture of general wildlife experiences, experiences related to self-development, and experiences fostering a sense of global citizenship. However, the last dimension of experience was found to represent only the soft mode of global citizenship. Five main obstacles were found to limit the volunteer tourists to become the critical global citizens: language barriers, their short period of participation, the intention and willingness of the volunteer tourists to learn about the root causes of problems in the destination country/host community, the active participation of wider groups of local people, and the volunteer tourists’ colonial perspective. These issues should be carefully by host organisations and sending organisations.

Traveling in the time of risk: The impact of vaccination on Turkish travellers 风险时期的旅行:疫苗接种对土耳其旅行者的影响

Focusing on travel risk perception, behavioural intention, and travel behaviour, the study investigated the impact of COVID-19 vaccines on travellers and examined whether the vaccination will allow individuals to travel more psychologically. The data were solicited from 485 outbound travellers. The research hypotheses were tested through partial least squares-structural equation modeling. It is concluded that vaccination has an impact on the risk perception, behavioural intention, and travel behaviour of travellers. COVID-19 vaccines decrease the pandemic risk perception and relieve travellers who find traveling unfavourable during this period. Behavioural intention and travel behaviour also increase after vaccinated. The study also revealed that travellers would prefer countries with a high COVID-19 vaccination rate.

of Chapter 2 Chapter 2 addresses the first research objective of this study. The literature review aims to provide a theoretical analysis of the economics of quality logic in the hotel industry. In this context, an attempt was made to define this study’s original academic concepts of quality management, performance measurement and benchmarking through an interdisciplinary study of services marketing and management and tourism economics. Specifically, the literature review focuses on the ideology that quality management requires resources, that can positively or negatively influence hotel performance. As such, Chapter 2 explores, theoretically, the realm of possibility in conceptualising quality management as a non-financial performance indicator in the hotel industry. This chapter concludes by revealing the research gaps that emerged from a review of the academic literature, as well as developing the study’s conceptual framework. Abstract of Chapter 3of Chapter 3 Chapter 3 presents a justification for the methodological underpinning of the investigation process employed in this doctoral study. The research methodology chapter opens with a discussion of how the research gaps identified in the academic literature inform the study’s research questions and four objectives. The chapter next provides a defence of the mixed methods research approach employed in this study. This is followed by an overview of the mixed methods research strategy, addressing specifically the reasons for undertaking a survey and a case study. The chapter continues by outlining how the chosen research methods form part of the sequential twophase research design. This treatise is further enhanced by a rationale of the data collection and analysis procedures employed during the two phases of this research. The chapter concludes with a reflection on the quality of this exploration and the methodological limitations, followed by the ethical considerations. The empirical findings of the research are then presented. Museums’ accessibility for senior citizens: Some evidence from Italy 博物馆对老年人的无障碍性:来自意大利的一些证据

This paper uses the information on elderly visitors, drawn from a survey carried out by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) in 2018, to identify the factors that facilitate or hinder senior tourists’ visits to museums. The resulting evidence captures how the accessibility of museums impacts the share of elderly visitors who have access problems and higher need of assistance and, therefore, provides useful information to improve cultural supply. The econometric analysis shows some significant relationships between the dependent variable, namely, the share of senior visitors on the total visitors, and the dummy variables employed as regressors indicating the existence of free admission for a certain category of visitors who have a problem of access, free admission for accompanying person, the presence of communication/promotional campaigns aimed at seniors visitors, the presence of an on- line catalogue, and support for visitors with access difficulties. Monetary reasons are not a major hindrance to enjoy cultural sites. The study further outlines certain aspects that should be taken into account to increase senior citizens’ participation in museum activities.

It focuses on the place management approach – the integration of location and destination management – which has seen a tremendous growth in significance over the past years. The relationships between institutionalization and dual commitment: A study on hotel kitchen employees 制度化与双重承诺的关系:基于酒店厨房员工的研究

Long-termed continuance of employees in hotel enterprises, especially in kitchen department where standard production is of utmost importance, is critical for organizational success. At this point, how institutionalization, a phenomenon that is usually associated with standardization, effects the organizational commitment (OC) is an important question. Another important question is how commitment to an impressive supervisor such as the chef mediates the relationship between institutionalization and OC in institutionalized hotels where standards become important instead of personal approaches. In this context, the relationship between institutionalization, OC, and commitment to the supervisor (CS), which has not been studied before, has been examined within the framework of hotel businesses. The data were collected with an online survey. The sample consisted of the kitchen staff of a national hotel chain in Turkey. The findings demonstrated that the effects of institutionalization on OC and CS were significant. CS partially mediates the relationship between institutionalization and OC. When considered within the scope of the dimensions, the CS has a partial mediating effect on the relationship between cultural power and all three dimensions of OC (affective, continuance, normative). The effect of formalization and professionalization on affective and normative commitment is partially mediated by CS.

The popularity of off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation has increased substantially in recent decades in the USA. The purpose of this study is to address the question of whether it might be a viable tourism strategy to position European destinations for such OHV recreationists. This study conducted a national survey of OHV recreationists in the U.S. The key finding is that 68.3 percent of those who have not previously ridden in Europe either strongly agree or somewhat agree that they would like to experience OHV riding in Europe if they had the time and money. Of those who had previously ridden in Europe, 100 percent either strongly agree or somewhat agree that they would like to return to Europe for more riding. Furthermore, this study finds that those with an interest in riding in Europe record an increased importance in the quantity of trail miles / large size of the OHV attraction in comparison to those with little or no interest in riding in Europe. These preliminary findings suggest that future research is warranted to further explore whether it could be worthwhile for European destinations to actively attract this large and growing segment of recreationists.

Determination of short-term trailer park amenities using a fuzzy method 用模糊方法确定短期拖车停放设施

Campgrounds are an essential part of the camping experience due to the attractions and facilities they offer to campers. The factors that motivate campers to travel have increasingly become more complex making it vital to take camper expectations into account for effective planning of campgrounds. The present study aimed to determine the trailer park amenities based on expert opinion. The paper systematically applied the Fuzzy Pivot Pairwise RElative Criteria Importance Assessment (Fuzzy PIPRECIA) Method in the selection of the trailer park criteria. Four main criteria and 20 sub-criteria were considered. In the findings the amenities were structured as follows: primarily, 'location,' followed by 'necessities' and 'campground attributes' and finally 'facilities and camping tools.' Spearman and Pearson correlation coefficients were employed to determine the consistency of the proposed model.
