Abstract - Tides are a phenomenon of periodic and periodic ups and downs of sea level movements. The tidal period is the time between the crest of a wave to the crest of the next wave, the time of the tidal period varies from 12 hours 25 minutes to 24 hours 50 minutes. Information about tides is very useful for activities related to the marine world. In the area of Kuala Langsa, tides often occur, fishermen and anglers in Kuala Langsa only rely on the poles of residents' houses to determine the time of the tide. The system is made useful so that fishermen and anglers can find out the time and state of the tides using smartphones, by creating a “Sea Tidal Monitoring System using Ultrasonic Sensors and nodeMCU which can provide results of monitoring the time and tidal status in Kuala Langsa and will displayed on a Web page”. Ultrasonic sensors can detect well and can provide tidal data to be displayed on a web page and can be accessed using smartphones and other devices during the testing period in Kuala Langsa village, Langsa City with 62.5% success being tested.

Promotion is a transfer from one position to another that has a higher status and responsibility. For this reason, the company always encourages employee professionalism improvement by monitoring employee performance in implementing their duties so that they can achieve predetermined competency standards. Making a decision support system is one way to assist in determining employee performance appraisals at PT BPR Pijer Podi Kekelengen and it is hoped that the system will able to determine the employees who want to be promoted based on ranking. The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the University of Timor is a student organization located at the State University of Timor. In its implementation, BEM at the University of Timor acts as a forum or means for all students of the University of Timor to be able to express their opinions and to develop various potentials that students have. The election of the chairman of the BEM of the University of Timor is directly elected by the students by a general election process. The process of selecting the chairman of the BEM is still done manually so that there is a lack of interest from voters to participate because they have to go to the polling station. Therefore, the development of information technology today has brought great changes for humans, including to carry out voting so that the term e-voting (electronic voting) appears which provides convenience in voting. E-Voting is a general election process that utilizes information technology facilities or electronic devices, where part or all of the implementation process, from voter registration, voting, to vote counting, is carried out digitally. The function of voting is to gather the aspirations of all students, and then find a way out that is considered a good cross. Therefore, the researchers helped the election system easily and created an application for the election with the title "E-voting for the election of the chairman of the Mobile-based Student Executive Board (BEM) of the University of Timor using the waterfal method".

The development of e-commerce at this time is increasingly rapidly marked by the increasing number of internet users in Indonesia. The conventional buying and selling process is still widely used in the era of increasingly rapid development of internet technology. However, the conventional buying and selling process is considered inefficient because it requires sellers and buyers to meet directly and also the sales coverage is felt to be less broad, so an efficient sales media is needed and has a broad coverage. So that these problems are not sustainable, an e-commerce website with a business to customer model will be built. The built e-commerce will provide a questionnaire page for customers which will later be implemented by the customer satisfaction index (CSI) method which produces a customer satisfaction index for the e-commerce that has been built. For software development, using PHP (Pear Hypertext Preprocessor) and HTML (HyperText Markup Language) as programming languages, MySQL as database server, Sublime Text 3 as programming support tools

PurposeBefore COVID-19 pandemic, translation students in higher education attended courses on computer-assisted translation to acquire operational knowledge of professional software, without experiencing collaborative/interactive learning. In few European universities skills labs were introduced to offer fieldwork-like activities, but without shared modelling standards and mainly held in presence for few consecutive days. As the COVID-19 pandemic further deprived students of crucial educational experiences, the purpose of this paper is to present an online collaborative learning environment exploiting a customised combination of information and learning applications the students already experienced during the pandemic to smoothen their learning curve and increase the educational effectiveness.Design/methodology/approachA multi-framework methodology to build and operate a computer-supported online collaborative skills lab for translation students is proposed. Reference standards and guidelines are leveraged to provide participants with a common knowledge ground, to activate the computer-supported collaborative learning perspective, and to ensure an appropriate simulation fidelity.FindingsAn end-to-end implementation of the proposed approach along with educational effectiveness analysis performed via complementary assessment strategies is presented. Achieved outcomes highlight significant participation rate, consistent improvement in technical and soft skills at both individual and collective levels, and clear activation of collaborative learning dynamics.Practical implicationsEvery master degree in translation teaching can adopt this approach by complying with the proposed guidelines.Originality/valueThe proposed multi-framework approach is novel and applied to a teaching sector where it is highly needed to fill a pre-existing gap.

PurposeInternet technology in the classroom has become the primary demand of every student in this era. Moreover, information and communication technology aids students' learning involvement and progress by providing learning assistance by improved instructor, pupil and interactions with fellows. Using an asynchronous Web-based learning environment (WBLE) is one way to manage such assistance. This study aims to identify to what extent the asynchronous WBLE affects students' interest and motivation in learning mathematics at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur.Design/methodology/approachThis research uses a survey research design under a quantitative approach. Therefore, data are collected through a questionnaire about students' motivation and interest in learning mathematics via asynchronous WBLE. Data are collected from the students of four departments (BEd, BSCS, BBA, BS Mathematics) of SALU, Khairpur. However, as the nature of this study is quantitative, both descriptive and inferential statistics were used in the results and discussion, and a one-way ANOVA test was used. The Cronbach alpha test was also used to assess the item's reliability, and the items were found to be acceptable.FindingsThe findings of this study discovered that asynchronous WBLE has a significant impact on students' intrinsic, extrinsic and interest levels. The results indicated that there is a positive impact based on the level of mean range of asynchronous WBLE on mathematics students.Research limitations/implicationsThe outcome of this study can be used as a guideline to understand and further plan or develop educational interventions based on the level of motivation and interest of mathematics students towards asynchronous WBLE in other contexts.Originality/valueThis is first study of its nature in the context of Khairpur district of Sindh that emphasizes on the motivation and interest of mathematics students toward asynchronous WBLE.

PurposeDue to the lack of standard and research-based frameworks in evaluating the content designed in electronic courses, there appears a need to examine some existing theoretical models like the cognitive theory of multimedia learning (CTML) developed by Richard Mayer on real occasions. To confirm the effectiveness of the seven principles of the model driven from this theory in different educational settings, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the present study was conducted in the contexts of two universities in Iran for comparison purposes.Design/methodology/approachThe present research is a descriptive one for which a survey method was considered to collect data. A measurement instrument was developed based on the seven principles mentioned in the last edition of the book written by Clark and Mayer (2016) as well as an extensive review of the related literature. The data gathered from 524 online questionnaires returned by students of a public university Shahid Beheshti University (SBU) and a private one Ruzbahan University (RU) were then analyzed through partial least squares using SmartPLS 3.0.FindingsThe results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that convergent and discriminant validities, as well as model fit indices, had the reliability of the theoretical model at the 99% confidence level. Based on the path coefficients found for testing hypotheses, modality and coherence principles were the first and last priorities, respectively. Moreover, the comparative study showed that t-statistics values for multimedia, contiguity, modality, redundancy and personalization but not for coherence, and segmenting and pretraining principles are significantly different between the two universities.Originality/valueThis study can be considered a pioneering research in Iran so as to increase the quality of multimedia design, instruction and learning at university levels in future research while emphasizing the importance of Mayer’s principles in the design of electronic content.

Moreover, the comparative study showed that t-statistics values for multimedia, contiguity, modality, redundancy and personalization but not for coherence, and segmenting and pretraining principles are significantly different between the two universities.Originality/valueThis study can be considered a pioneering research in Iran so as to increase the quality of multimedia design, instruction and learning at university levels in future research while emphasizing the importance of Mayer’s principles in the design of electronic content.","PeriodicalId":51872,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Information and Learning Technology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47790504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PurposeWhile blended learning has been proved to be successful in learning outcomes, the landscape of blended learning has changed under coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Hence, the present study aims to explore first-year university students' perceptions of wholly blended learning during the pandemic, through the three constructs in the community of inquiry (CoI) instrument, namely teaching, social and cognitive presences (CPs).Design/methodology/approachSurvey data (N = 449) were collected from the 2020 Fall Cohort in Hong Kong for quantitative analysis. Reliability and validity of the CoI model is examined, followed by correlation and independent-samples t-tests.FindingsFirst-year students perceived overall low teaching, social and CPs with social presence (SP) scoring the highest. Findings also indicated that teaching presence (TP) significantly determined CP and SP; SP was a mediating variable in CoI. Students' gender and prior learning experience (online/blended) were not associated with perceptions of presences.Practical implicationsStudents today are more familiar with technology-based communication, and staying up to date in educational technology is crucial for teachers. Trainings in online teaching should be provided to teachers. Also, interactive technology should focus on improving peer interaction.Originality/valueThe proposed study is novel in that it used the CoI model among first-year students in Hong Kong during the pandemic. Findings are valuable to higher education in understanding students' perception of bended learning and in addressing issues.
